No, don't make another channel. I want to see all of that. Just the two channels you have now make it hard to keep up. I wish it was all on one channel again. I have been watching you since you made a fort with Joe, that's how I found you. I love ALL of your content.
The Our Self Reliance channel is really good, you might want to check it out. Personally, I like the idea of the third channel. Both of the existing channels are great, but unique enough to attract two different types of viewers.
Shawn I throw my vote in with the no new channel folks. Have Shawn James include your homesteading and keep My Self Reliance your wilderness adventures plus your infrastructure building, minimum talking and the sounds of nature and your hand saw. IMHO you have balanced these two channels well and provided overlap where necessary. We look forward to the hen house tour.
Shawn, you dont have to open another channel, i have followed you for many years now. You are a big inspiration for me, the things you do is what i want to do, i dont like to have neighbours so close, i really want to live in the forest, mostly alone but i would preciate the family or friends coming over. Everything you do is so amazing. I am 59 yesterday, from Sweden .

Don't start another channel, I think we can separate out the content, and watch what we want or in my case all of it. Thank you for sharing your life with us, you have inspired me to change some things that have made my life better.
No additional channel needed here. I enjoy the varying discussions around different topics, challenges and projects you discuss. Is fish or dried fish not also an optimal/alternative solution?
I think 1 channel is great. My husband and I enjoy your channel, we live on a quarter section of land and are retired. We have raised cattle, horses and chickens. We now just have horses. We built our own house and are totally on the grid, sadly. We hunt and raise our own veggies and plan to put in a fruit garden/orchard. My husband had been a wildland firefighter for 40+ years so developing our own place has been put on hold all those years as fire took him away most summers coast to coast. We are learning from you, and have been making plans to attempt to do what you are doing...it's just a little tough with my 59 and his 63 year old bodies...so we have to do this work a little differently than you. Huge Kudos to you and your wife for doing what you do
It’s not confusing, do you have it all on one channel! We love the variety❤ What’s confusing is that everyone is now going to multiple channels and it’s too hard to keep track of and now we hardly see posts because they only post some on the original channel and then they post other stuff on their other channels - keep it simple❤❤❤
I have been watching since you started,.havent made any comments yet. Love your show. Things have gotten a little confusing since the USA trip, understandably so. glad Callie is OK. 2 Channels is Good. You have a lot going on. Cool Chicken Coop/Castle!, . Im glad you decided to expand to homesteading. Logically the next step! Yea food prices in CA are out of control. Good Luck! I'll be watching! I had started getting off the grid in No. CA 2017. I bought 34 acres in the DeadWood/Concow foothills. sunk a well and built a covered concrete parking area for my truck, tractor, 5th wheel. base of operations. Planning on Solar panels on top of the parking area..the rest never happened! Camp Fire Nov 8, 2018 . Destroyed everything. then covid. Damn! im Starting over at 65! Peace KSkirrow
The two channels you have now are perfect. Being self reliant requires you to recognize when the direction you started is not working and time for a change.. adding livestock to your land makes sense. Watching you build the chicken house was awesome. I do like you filling us in on your thoughts and explaining a new direction. Please keep us involved, you are so inspirational. You faithful viewer from the first log set on original cabin.
I think a third channel would actually be more confusing. I like the Shawn James channel where you give us your thoughts behind what you doing and what you are trying to accomplish. Then the other channel is fun to watch you put it together in the building process. Just my two cents worth. I will follow you if you do a third channel too.
I’ve been watching you since 2019 .and your Chanel’s have made me change my life drastically. I would leave everything the way it is because you are living life to the fullest of your family ability. Looking forward to your next videos
Makes no difference to me so long as I subscribe to all your channels. You and your family deserve a lot of respect for how you've all managed to pick up and stand from where you have fallen. Life is that way for everyone. There are ups and downs, and all that matters is that we all learn from our experiences and muster the courage to move on forward. I am very impressed with you and your family. May everyone stay safe, healthy, and happy! Thank you for creating all of your channels for us to learn and draw inspiration from!
Do what ever is easier for you Shawn and profitable for you as well. Viewers will watch what they find interesting. I'm not much into the gardening you do but many do like it. Raising animals for food I like and the hunting and builds uou do like your cabin, work shop, and outhouse and whatever else your going to build. It's your life you do you and we will watch you and hopefully your making good money along the way.
Hey Shawn, I started watching your other channel when u was building that previous cabin. I like your work and videos since there was no music, but after some time, I got the feeling like I know you like you're my buddy. Anyways now I'm watching both of your channels, and I enjoy every time. So, to answer your question: no matter how many channels I'll be watching! :) Greetings from Bosnia!
Hi Shawn .... We love all your videos and watch them from our farm here in New Zealand. We prefer ,not that it is up to us to have just one channel , we find it easier to just click on one rather than a couple at a time. We have Red Devon cows who have their own calves which stay with and on mum for 8 to 9 months. We have chickens which get fed Possum meat that gets minced up with the kidney and liver ... they go mental for the protein. The chickens then head out onto the farm and go wherever they want to .... We also made a maggot bucket for our chickens and again they go mental for those as well. Our sons make clothing (natural bark tan) from the hides , hats etc so nothing goes to waste. Our cows go into green salad bowl pasture where we have herbs for them and many many trees for shade and shelter. We are very fortunate to have our own meat so we are so grateful. Chicken feed here a 25kg bag of organic pellets NZ 64.00 !!!!!!! Keep up the amazing videos , we do so love to think were sitting in a cabin eating a toasted sandwich you've made from the sour dough bread hahahaha
One channel is fine. Its all you and your lifestyle. It’s interesting how your life is changing and how you are adapting. Always a great pleasure to watch. Looking forward to the cattle arriving 😊❤.
One channel is all you need, your content is amazing ,we love everything you do and there’s no need to spend more time on editing etc another channel when we get soo much incredible content already, exciting to be getting livestock .Your one smart man and I’m so proud of you and your family Canadian proud 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
Shawn, I think growing duck weed in a pond and drying for winter is the answer (just popped in my head while listening to you). “One study suggests that duckweed may be best fed dried and I can envision drying stations where I just scoop duckweed out of the pond and toss it on a table in our hot summer sun. give your chickens a fish now and then as an even higher boost of protein.”
Fellow Canadian feeling the pinch, you nailed it sir, it's time to evaluate life. I'm a little older than you but I'm fulfilling the dream of building off grid one board at a time! I'm on a pilgrimage toward a more self reliant life. Thank you Shawn, your videos inspired me to go for it.
Shawn as an 80 year old it would be a better for myself personally if you consolidated down to one channel. Love your insight and I'm envious. But you have to make the choice about the channel selection and it just might make it easier for you to go down to one. Good luck and continue your lifestyle.
How about this suggestion: 1) Keep posting what you’re posting on the Shawn James channel 2) keep posting the regular Friday build type videos on the My Self Reliance channel 3) add the animal raising videos on the My Self Reliance channel on their own day, like Tuesdays?
I appreciate the extended explanation. I have watched your channel(s) for several years now. I really enjoy your content. Don't feel obligated to stick to the outdoors game harvesting food sources for the sake of consistency. Creating more channels will make you crazy. Anyone following you should expect your choices to evolve over time, and I am relieved that you are so much more diversified. I love to watch what you are building and I appreciate you sharing the thought process for arriving at your decisions. Something I miss a bit, is your stunning wildlife filming.
Shawn, I am loving this channel. Keep it all on this channel. It all fits well together. Then your subs don’t have to jump from channel to channel to listen to your videos. I truly enjoy listening to you speak. Your thought process and justifications are spot on. Your explanations are easy to understand. Great job! I am loving this channel very much! 💛
Shawn, we all love everything you do and show on your channels. Do what is best for you as far as making a new channel or combining a channel, but please show us everything you have time to film. Im an old man from the USA and cant do the things you do, but I admire you very much. Watching you is like being able to briefly live a different life. Wish you and your family the very best.
Shawn, fellow Canadian who's followed you for a long time now. Whatever you decide to do, your fans and subscribers will follow. We don't just love the content, we love you and all of the hard work and education you provide. Keep doing what you love and the rest will follow...
I think you do just fine with content Shawn. It’s not confusing and I find it all wonderful. Your Natural footage mixed in just adds delight to it all with what you already have. Thank You and Many Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Shawn we love all that you are doing! One channel would be perfect. It may even save you some headaches. Do what is best for you. We will enjoy following along even if you need to change things up completely! BTW if you had 5 channels I would follow all of them!
Shaaaawn...that is the most Beautiful and Creative Chicken Coop that I've ever seen...Wow!!! After you built it ... I would have reconsidered using it for a Chicken Coop..its Fabulous!!!
NO please not a second channel Shawn. Keep it all, homesteading, hunting, fishing, the whole lot, all on this channel. Please... I love all this you are doing, I live my "free life" through your channel...
I agree with so many here Shawn, and say just have the one channel--and whatever extra you want to do for your Patreons can be separate. You have enough to do without having to make it all more crazy busy having to run 3 separate channels. WAY too much time will be wasted just editing that way. Just live your life and we are grateful that you bring us along with WHATEVER you are doing. However, it would be nice to have your wife more involved sometime showing us canning and other things she works on. Also still praying for Emily. An update on her status might be nice at some point, as well. Just grateful you include us on your journey. Thank you. ♥
I think having this one and my self reliance is good enough. Have all your main content on self reliance from building gardening livestock videos. Keep it on all one channel.
Your valuation of costs throughout most of your videos tends to leave out the most important resource and savings capability, YOU! Your efforts and time are invaluable to the outcomes you entertain us with. Immeasurable what value could be associated with all of the time and the skills you've acquired, etc ., etc. Amazing!
--if it an't broke don't fix it! it's obvious your fowlers watch your channel for your content what ever that is will be good enough ! trust in your 370k fan base, and the fact that you can't provide for your family is valid interesting content you switching your focus is part of the real info people appreciate!1keep on doing the greet work and you will be rewarded, thanks
Like others have stated I think the diversity of topics on your channels is what keeps them interesting. I like watching all of the different aspects of your life on both MSR and SJ (MSR you show, SJ you tell). I think two channels is good enough, but if decide to make another channel it’s not a big deal. I would just subscribe to it as well and receive notifications when you upload so it wouldn’t be a big change on my end 🤷🏻♂️ 👍🏻
You could try keeping one channel going because you're already using your time, money, and resources for this new endeavor. Simply labeling the topics would allow folks to watch those they were interested in and maybe explore new content that they had not considered before. You could post on separate days if you wanted to follow the stats better. I know I would be interested in some aspects of care, breeding, housing etc , but not butchering and preserving. Others , though, would benefit from that, as well as , food preparation. That would keep the option open to decide on whether the second channel would be better and what direction you wanted to go with it. Be blessed. Also, you might consider getting out a simple book series
No need for another channel Shawn. It used to be that MSR was mostly "build" projects and work around the homestead and on SJ you would talk more and explain about your aims and what you wanted your life to be. I think you could continue with that distinction even if occasionally the edges might blur a little. Really enjoy watching both channels here in London England 🇬🇧
Shawn. I thing you should just keep on doing what you are doing and post the vidoes. I enjoy the day to day living vidoes. No particular content just what you do on a daily basis. Keep it up and I will keep watching.
Holy Hen House! That coop is crazy amazing. I just watched one of your old videos building the bbq pit at the old cabin. Much more rustic back then. But I love the new cabin especially the size, the huge porch and root cellar basement. Wondering where you go from here.
Hi Shawn lovely to see how amazing your creativity has has become. You do wonderful content with your channels. Do what you can, to make your life comfortable for you. Vloging is very time consuming. Take care of your health. Thank you for sharing Geraldine north Wales UK 👍
Hi Shawn, I want to hear you rant about whatever is on your mind. I don't want to have to go to other channels. You are an inspiration and you have my support. Keep it up. People need to hear and learn from your powerful insights. Meantime, I wish you and your family the best of luck as you try to live your lives while thinking about each step.
For an avid fan such as myself one channel or two channels isn't as important as the time and the quality of your videos. An important reason for my loyalty to your videos is the obvious thought, time, and quality of your presentation.
I don't think there is a need to move or change your channels. We get you I like the different things your talking about stuff or showing what you're doing. I am inspired by you.
I have a recommendation for growing chicken food and that is hot peppers. Birds aren't affected by the capsaicin and most of the local wild live will leave it alone. Also you can plant it as a perimeter for the garden area to deter pests from the other plants you'll have and you can even use it to preserve some things if you wanted.
Hi Shawn….. I think you should put it all on one channel. I have been watching you for years, and enjoy that you share everything about the off grid lifestyle. Always a pleasant eye opener and very informative and inspiring. Thank you Shawn for all of this!
I like hearing you talk. I think keep it simple, one channel. You are so skilled, it's very enjoyable just to see how you live all aspects of your life.
Greetings Shawn. In my humble opinion if I were you, I would do the number of channels that is easiest and most convenient for you. I'll be watching no matter what!
Mr. James. Thanks for sharing your plans. As for me, I prefer to watch as much as possible on this channel. However, I can't have it all at once . Do whatever you feel is best.
First, just gotta say that I'm old enough to remember when "costs just chicken feed" meant very inexpensive. But, mostly just want to say that, like so many, I've been following you for years, and when you added the 2nd channel I immediately subscribed. So, a third channel? I don't really see the need, but whatever works best for you. Clicking a new "subscribe" button only takes a half-second. As long as the content continues regularly and of the quality we've come to expect, I really don't care how many channels you set up. I'll be 65 next month, and have enough health issues that living the lifestyle you have is no longer feasible for me, so at least I get to live vicariously through you and a few other outdoorsman.
I want to say a couple of things.. first of all, I’m so thankful your health is better!! Praise God you and your family are learning natural ways to heal yourself! 🙌🏼🎉🙏🏼🕊️💪🏼👏🏼🙌🏼..I just wanted to say something about your garden.. the guy who does “Back To Eden Gardening” (Paul Gautschi), he feeds his dogs and chickens from his garden… but he’s also had his soil and veggies tested and they are so full of nutrients… so maybe you could at least eat some of your veggies or can them for later on… 😅 God bless!!
Wow this is the first time I've felt grateful to live in the US in a long time. I have two young kids and the cost to raise family is ridiculous. I do feel grateful after this video for my access to free eggs from coworkers and an abundance of deer tags so thank you for that!
James Shaw is where I click to hear what's up - listen to you Self Reliance where I click to follow your work - observe your skills, You looking fit and lean Mr Shaw
Hey Shawn, first of all thanks for all the inspiring content you put out. I don't think you need another channel, but creating well sorted playlists and maybe a color/graphic code of some sort on the thumbnails to indicate which type of content would be a lot more clear for everyone in my opinion.
Thank you for making great content Shawn. I would prefer 1 channel only. It is confusing with the 2 already. I think everything is covered in the name «My self relianse», homesteading, wildlife..
Agree❤❤❤ all of my favourite TH-camrs this year started doing to channels even three channels and now I don’t know where to find any of them and the original channel they hardly post on because they have to post on the other stuff… It’s a lose for all of us
I like the diversity in your channel. I watch both your self-reliance and Shawn James channel as though they are one. As you mentioned, everyone is going through life changes, so what you are showing is just true circumstances.
I don't think its necessary to start a different channel. Your channel was the very first I became "hooked" on when I discovered TH-cam. Everyone evolves and folks should expect your channel to follow suit. I wish I had a quarter of your talents! Keep up the great work!
Whether you add another channel or not. I’ll be watching wherever you upload! I have been watching both of your channels since 2015. Love the content and will always be a viewer.
Shawn, I like how you put all aspects of what you're doing into 1 video. I think you should stay with that type of format. Thanks for the videos, very entertaining.
Love the 2 channels. The lifestyle and talking works well for this channel. Also, the ‘Dick Proenneke’ style with your my self reliance channel. Regardless I would watch your content because of the quality and integrity of what you do and share.
Yikes! My husband and I live off grid in the southeast have chickens for eggs, raise our organic veggies, pinto beans and purple hull crowder peas, and fruits. We do buy grains, other beans, honey and nuts and seeds, etc. Our overall groceries which include toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc and a few splurges amount to about $5, 000.00 a year. We have been vegetarians for over 40 years and enjoy good health, cycling, hiking and gardening, and require no medication. I appreciate all that Shawn and family have done and enjoy his videos , that would be stressful to maintain his lifestyle . Wish them all the best.
If you are thinking of getting livestock. I would recommend looking at Dexters. As I type this you mentioned the breed in your video. Research into A2/A2 milk health benefits that the Dexters produce. They are a GREAT dual purpose breed. Also they don’t need a huge pasture. I prefer that breed over Jerseys.
I just love that chicken coop. I’d love to have a house that looks like that. Beautiful job. You are now a true master craftsman. Bravo! Best of health and blessings on you and the family. ❤️👍🏻💪🏻🖖🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸🐾🐾🐾
I think the two channels are enough. I like the fact that you don’t talk that much in the self reliance videos I just like watching your progress on the Homestead. And then I like the Shawn James channel with informative content. One more channel is just too much.
Hi Shawn My suggestion would be to keep it as it is with your two channels. Keep it as simple as possible for yourself. I have been watching your shows for a number of years and thoroughly enjoy every episodes.
Keep the content as is. What you are doing is what people are interested in, and that includes garden, wilderness, livestock, camping. Unless it hurts the views I would keep it all as is.
I think just do what you've been doing...the discussions on SJ and the builds on MSR. Thanks for all you do to protect the environment and go back to the simpler way of life. Simpler not meaning easier...not easy by a long shot!!
We pay 24 dollars per sack of laying pellets at the new feed place in Parry Sound. And we supplement dried meal worms in the winter when the bugs are gone. The chickens free range on our 38 acres although for the first time since we've been caring for our chickens we lost ten in a few days to a fox or fischer
As I watched your videos over the past two months since starting a Carnivore lifestyle, I kept thinking this would fit Shawn well. Happy to hear your are carnivore now also. I have lost 30 lbs and stopped taking most of my meds. With your two channels now, I think you can manage your stories and content well.
I've been with you for years, I love My Self Reliance I'll always watch your progression, you don't know how much you and your family are appreciated..I was born and raised in Alaska and am 71 years old, your work ethic is infectious thank you Shawn
Another channel might be good, as you mentioned your wife is learning about natural herbs for good health etc ...would be really interesting to know as well and of course we can never get enough about the chickens and this beautiful chicken coop!
No, don't make another channel. I want to see all of that. Just the two channels you have now make it hard to keep up. I wish it was all on one channel again. I have been watching you since you made a fort with Joe, that's how I found you. I love ALL of your content.
And what are the implications of income from TH-cam? Seems to me, no experience, would be easier and simpler to have less channels.
The Our Self Reliance channel is really good, you might want to check it out. Personally, I like the idea of the third channel. Both of the existing channels are great, but unique enough to attract two different types of viewers.

truly exquisite craftsmanship
I'm fine with the existing channels, finding it all interesting and informative. Continuing prosperity and abundance for you and your extended family.

How about this suggestion:
1) Keep posting what you’re posting on the Shawn James channel
2) keep posting the regular Friday build type videos on the My Self Reliance channel
3) add the animal raising videos on the My Self Reliance channel on their own day, like Tuesdays?
Thank you. ♥
I LOVE that chicken coop!! It's absolutely spectacular!
סליחה לשאלה לדעתך העם להיות מנו לערוץ לפי תגובתך זה נדרש לשלם עבור זה ?
You could try keeping one channel going because you're already using your time, money, and resources for this new endeavor. Simply labeling the topics would allow folks to watch those they were interested in and maybe explore new content that they had not considered before. You could post on separate days if you wanted to follow the stats better. I know I would be interested in some aspects of care, breeding, housing etc , but not butchering and preserving. Others , though, would benefit from that, as well as , food preparation. That would keep the option open to decide on whether the second channel would be better and what direction you wanted to go with it. Be blessed. Also, you might consider getting out a simple book series
One channel is all that is needed.
Two Channels is fine, and we’re happy to enjoy whatever content you share! Keep it simple…
Please keep all content on one channel. Always look forward to your informative videos.
I love this chicken coop you built. It’s beautiful.
OH BEEN WATCHING YOU SINCE YOUR FIRST CABIN BUILD....I WONDER HOW MANY YEARS THAT IS .... BLESSINGS DARLING FROM GRANNY LINDA IN OZ
Definitely DONT delete what you are doing into another channel! Whatever directions you move towards is why we continue to watch
Just live your life Shawn, and take us along as you have been.
One channel. Alternate content. We love it all.
Wow this is the first time I've felt grateful to live in the US in a long time. I have two young kids and the cost to raise family is ridiculous. I do feel grateful after this video for my access to free eggs from coworkers and an abundance of deer tags so thank you for that!
James Shaw is where I click to hear what's up - listen to you
Self Reliance where I click to follow your work - observe your skills,
You looking fit and lean Mr Shaw
Hey Shawn, first of all thanks for all the inspiring content you put out. I don't think you need another channel, but creating well sorted playlists and maybe a color/graphic code of some sort on the thumbnails to indicate which type of content would be a lot more clear for everyone in my opinion.
Thank you for making great content Shawn. I would prefer 1 channel only. It is confusing with the 2 already. I think everything is covered in the name «My self relianse», homesteading, wildlife..
Agree❤❤❤ all of my favourite TH-camrs this year started doing to channels even three channels and now I don’t know where to find any of them and the original channel they hardly post on because they have to post on the other stuff… It’s a lose for all of us
I like the two channels as they are. The one is beautiful, the other informative. Thanks for the effort! More than this gets too hard to keep up on!
I’m just glad to see your great building skills! Keep going!
Whether you add another channel or not. I’ll be watching wherever you upload! I have been watching both of your channels since 2015. Love the content and will always be a viewer.
Channels evolve. I'm ok with how that has played out for yours. If you start another, I'll follow it. If not. I'll watch here.
I cannot keep up with two now. Love your show. Betty NC USA
Shawn, I like how you put all aspects of what you're doing into 1 video. I think you should stay with that type of format. Thanks for the videos, very entertaining.
I enjoy the channels just the way they are, I would not change anything I believe you are doing a great job.
New channel! Keep everything as it is. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.
Thank you , Shawn .
🐺Loupis Canis .
Que lindo te quedo la capital felicitaciones Shawn desde chile
Boy guess I missed a lot of videos, absolutely LOVE the stone building at beginning of this one.... Absolutely gorgeous
merci JAMES
Watching all three now! Just picked up beef half from processing this week.
I think the two channels are enough. I like the fact that you don’t talk that much in the self reliance videos I just like watching your progress on the Homestead. And then I like the Shawn James channel with informative content. One more channel is just too much.
Make it all on one channel please. More variety and great to watch!
Hi Shawn
My suggestion would be to keep it as it is with your two channels.
Your channels don't confuse me. I watch whatever you have to offer, and thank you for your work to share it. No need to make more channels.
Good morning Shawn food is getting expensive have a good day hugs to you and Cali
Just keep doing what your doing Shawn, we can evolve along with you...cheers
