Thailand was my home for 12 years and I was sick to death of the BS every year with the Visa's, they put you through the ringer every time and the 90 day reporting and paying extra for exit Visa's. Stayed in Cambodia for about a year and totally loved the feeling of freedom especially the no hassle retirement visa. Another thing in Thailand is that they keep changing the goal post's on many things. In saying all this I would choose Thailand because it does have more things going for it, it's, but because of all hassles you have to go through I would choose Cambodia.
Totally agree its way to hard to live in Thailand long term especially if u haven't the funds to live there long term easy for a holiday 1 or 2 months but after that youhave to do border runs to stay in the country if u don't have a long term visa .there are better options for long stays Malaysia and Laos as well as Cambodia better for longer stays if u haven't the funds for the visas in Thailand Laos the 1:year visa where u can work with that visa is 200 us dollars for the year and no having to put large amounts in a Thai bank account that's where I will retire to or Malaysia where u can work Thailand it's so difficult to live there where u can't work on alot of visas digital nomad visa still required 500000 baht so Thailand good for short stay but not living there full time.😢
If you want to go for a short, fun trip, go to Thailand. You can't go wrong. If you're thinking about staying in a SE Asian country for a longer period of time, consider Cambodia. It's just much, much easier. It's a great, safe country with great visa options. I have a 1year retirement visa that allows unlimited in & out. The only requirements are you have to be 55 years old & pay a $280 fee (the brokers charge a $20 commission fee). The people are fabulous & very honest, hard-working, family people. Cambodia isn't as developed as Thailand, but it is coaching up.
Mate you got ripped off hard if you paid $300 for the 1 year business visa.. That's literally almost 10 times what it costs if you just buy it in Cambodia when you arrive, instead of through an agent. I lived there for 3 years. Each year my 12 month visa cost me $70. And this included a bribe for an immigration official to come pick up my passport from my apartment, pretend I left the country and re-entered, then return my passport to me. It's about half that if you don't bribe them and just do it yourself.
Yeah, my last time there was 2010 so it may have changed, it was around $30 for the 1 month business visa then about $280 to extend it to one year, could have changed since then.
@@talksofthailand Actually I thought about it after I wrote it and you are possibly right. Like everything in Cambodia, there's multiple prices depending how you approach things. I had a local friend do it for me by just bribing the right people. The price you paid is quite possibly the correct by the book everything legal price
To sum it up top 3 .....visa options I got a work permit and 12 month multy entry eg visa for less than 500$ sitting down #2 having a beer 75 cents 1$ tops (not rooftop bar..2.50$ there) happy hour 2 cocktails 4$#grab /pass app 1$ 3km ride #3 accomodation a fridge a/c western standards 22$ now opening a bank account you need to provide a lease 6 months up ...condo are strata 100% ownership. Alot of house home projects with a 30 cashdown and they automatically approve 7 years monthly mortgage at 1% interest rate only with a passport no proof of income or occupation just don't miss a payment
It's a lovely life here.

You will be amazed at the quality of accommodation in Cambodia now, Vietnam also by the way!
Good to know, thanks mate
And then you walk out in to the mud.
How would you guys compare the road safety of the three countries? Thailand's likely the most "civil" so far I'd say...
I had bad experiences in both Cambodia and Vietnam, feel much safer in Thailand.

Park 800k THB on the bank, fill in the form, make an appointment with immigration and pay 1900THB, in and out in under an hour, once per year.
Yep - that's all there is to it.

If you need go go bars, Thailand is better, if you don't need go go bars Cambodia is easily just as good or a better option. It's as simple as that.
Who is the tattooed honey. Stunning
