I got the leatherette coffer box just yesterday for the French Chavet set in antiqued and ebonized boxwood with 3.9 in. kings. It's a great way to travel and store the pieces!
The only problem is paying almost as much for the storage box as for the set! Love the Chavet pieces from RCM though -- beautiful design! Mine are the mahogany stained.
@@cheezbomber, those are nice, too. If you mix and match between the two sets (the regular boxwood with ebonized), it could conceivably be FIDE-approved, since there'd be greater contrast between light and dark. And yes, the box is pretty expensive, but worth it. The Chavets fit almost perfectly in the padded spaces (I wonder if it's a type of memory foam🤔). I worried about the pieces popping out inside the box, so I cut the 10 mm thick foam sheets in the packaging (RCM takes excellent care in wrapping) to fit in the top tray and the bottom, closed the case, shook it vigorously and it worked. The pieces stayed put.
these are absolutely beautiful. I wish i had the money to invest in a set like this, but i have neither the honor nor the skill to back up owning a set like this. I will buy a set like this when I reach 1500 elo
I admire your self-criticism. I must admit that I reward myself regardless of my skill, haha. Grind my friend you will get to 1500 in no time, thanks for stopping by.
There is a 'Truism' that You only get what you Pay for, which is, mostly, correct. I purchased a Zagreb set at what i thought was a 'Bargain' from a lesser known Indian maker. OK, it was good for the money but did have QC issues whereas i bought a Leningrad set from one of the Bigger, better known, Manufacturers at Twice the cost...but, the 'standard' of workmanship was first class. I'm not criticising the other Maker, who simply produced a set to match the 'price'. Needless to say i will sell-on the Zegreb and take heed of that old saying.🇬🇧
Thank you for this video, the new set is of very good quality but, I much much better like the Leuchars Pieces. In my personal taste, the proportions and overall aestetics and elegance of Leuchars is far superior to Spartacus. Lets take for example the proportions between King and Queen in both sets. Leuchars King is far more prominent than his Queen in stature as it should be, as the King is the most important figure in the game. Still the Queen looks elegant and beautiful. And every other piece including the pawns of Leuchars Cook Set are simply beautifully proportioned and pleasing to the eye. For me Spartacus peices look somewhat bulky and unatractive. Even the knight who should be the star of the set is just flashy, but laks true elegance and class! Still, once again thank you for the review, it was a joy!
Many thanks for your feedback. Classic proportions like the Leuchars are always going to be the favourite of the majority of people. They are also my favourite but I like also variety.
Back in the day, people would turn the rook upside down if they wanted to promote a pawn to a queen (while already having the actual queen on the board). This way, you can have 2 queens of the same colour on the board after pawn promotion, so you don't have to turn a rook upside down. I also remember that there are people who wouldn't approve an upside-down rook to be considered a queen, and I would imagine this especially wouldn't be tolerated in tournaments, so having an extra queen for each player solves this issue. @xpyrox5462

This set is by far the most luxurious and beautiful I’ve seen

Well, money talks in many areas of life, I'm sure it also applies when it comes to chess :) Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experience.
Very nice set!
Agree! Thanks for stopping by :)
Just beautiful
Thanks for the comment!
Those are beautiful knights
Thanks for the feedback!
spartacus set looks awesome
What’s the size of the board sir ?

Nice chess set! Playing rough with the pieces like that will damage them.
How big your board? What is the square size?
you mention 63 square mm but in the video it shows the picture of the 57 mm
I had a similar chess set, unfortunately, the knights got chipped during playing with them. For display they are ok but for practical play NO!
Thanks for the comment. Yes, I understand your point, I like to play slow games with this size pieces.
I think the knights are a bit overdone. Rooks are the stars of this set❤
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it a lot!
It makes for a pretty decoration. But a design not practical for playing chess.
I also personally prefer classical knights, and this set is bought by my friend who really likes decorated knights :)
P r o m o S M
I must say the knights are gaudy and horrible.
Medusa knight
why is there two queens of each side in the set?
