Yeah get out there and let it rip. I'm 68 and gave up bowling for 16 years. It's been 2 years now and I'm bowling about as well as I did in my 40's. Back then I averaged 210 but nowadays it seems the bowling balls are even more powerful and if given a good house shot good scores will happen. But the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy friends.
Back in the days of pancake blocks and no flare, the pros would actually just sand the track. I think there's some footage of Mike Durbin talking about this. Sand that track enough and you would end up with a flat tire around the circumference. I am guessing that the USBC rule is more about keeping a ball from going out of round by hitting all six sides when changing surfaces.
One the games I like to do with the folks I coach is…have 4 patterns on 4 pairs. The goal is to strike on the 2nd shot on each lane. If they don’t strike, they have to go back a lane.
@@TheHouseBowling u should do another. U should intentionally make it impossible to bowl with a ball because the drilling is so terrible. Like 6 inches to the right of ur finger holes and just don’t change anything else. Like not even lined up to your pin to pap.
Just randomly sanding the top or bottom, is going to cause the ball to be unpredictable. However; if you use that 500 pad on the ball at the outside to middle of where your flare occurs, it should make it turn harder when the ball is at the end of the lane.
I have a ton of video ideas for you. The next I'd like to see is for you to drill a wide diameter hole through the weight block, but something with surface (no spare), and fill half of it with liquid. Then use putty to plug just the hole about in inch down so that you can pour a resin plug that leaves a hollow core, half filled with liquid. It's really not that difficult, and I know exactly how to do it, but I think it would be a fun build and interesting ball-physics test. I have a bunch of ideas for fun tests. Another is to borrow a mold from Brunswick, and fill it with gummy worms and then pour in clear resin to make a gummy-worm spare ball.
So heres a weird grey area they leave in that. They say u have to sand or clean the whole ball....but does it say anywhere u have to sand or clean the whole ball with the same grit.

There is this guy named Jerry Kessler in some of my bowling groups. He has hundreds of 300s and 800s. Last night he shot 260 300 299 for an 859. Another 800 and 300… you should look him up and do some sort of challenge with him.
We used 180 or 220 when white dots & yellow dots were still king of the road. Then when urethane came out and AMF told us on a regular TV commercial that everyone needed to have an angle.
Yeah a uniform manner, meaning that it either has to be all sanded, or all polished. So if you were to sand the ball up to 2000 grit, and then sanded the top half at 500 grit, then polished the whole thing, that should not be illegal as the finish is uniform. It just can't be sanded and polished at the same time.

I just tried 2 handed bowling and its just so much more intuitive for me... As a complete noob playing with house balls, even though I have bowled 150s with the ball going straight one handed... Hooking the ball one handed made my score drop. It droped even more today that I bowled with 2 hands - but, I think that it all became so much more clear intuitively. Next time I will bowl 2 handed again. And I might go over 150 one day!
When you said ultra illegal i was thinking you were soaking it with the Special Sauce (MEK). All it would do is make a bowling ball have a hardness in the 40s...
So we used to always experiment with undersanding, where you would sand one of the bowties of your track with 180, then surface the ball entirely with say 1k. On urethane is slowed my urethane down a ton fresh and rolled smoother. Technically legal due yo the 1k being a full surface with 180 under it
Just subscribed and started bowling more this year I used to just bowl regularly and did so poorly but now I got my own ball and using the two handed method and getting in the high 170s!
I Haven't bowled in about 4 years. My favorite thing to do was to make a 5 step approach and throw the ball between my legs. I think.my high score with that was around 180
@The House Bowling pretty much. One is a storm fast. I want to get it redrilled to start using it again (bought off eBay because mine broke 6 years ago). But I want to start practicing more, but there is no way to get to a bowling alley since I don't drive
how much to bowl these days...haven't bowled since high school days in 80's I could rent a lane for 5 hours at 10 bucks....no joke. Olympian lanes in Portsmouth, Virginia around 1983. The other lanes...Victory and another over in Chesapeake were just a little more, but not much.
Ok, this raises a *BIG* question: If a bowler never resurfaces their ball, but simply allows it to lane shine forever, won't the track area be naturally _duller_ than the rest of the ball since that is the _only area_ that ever touches the lane as it rolls? If true doesn't this technically make all balls like this illegal?
I’m curious to know. If you drew a line on the last third of your track, where the ball hooks, I wonder if you would get a really good polished skid with a sanded hook 😮
noticed the less I bowl, the higher the avg. Basically 220+ without being consistent. Wonder what I'd do if in a league, and your videos give me that urge.
I just bowled a 257 new pb had an 8 pack and left the 10 pin in the 9th and the 10th, missed the spare in the 10th blew it but new pb so can't be to mad

I was in a state tournament in Columbus that had that. I homed the first game but the monitor helped a lot

Why not try to make your own Quantum Helix? Sand the whole ball to 1000 then finish a strip on the track to 5k extra glossy polish?
