    I got one of these second hand and motorised it with a power drill. I lube with a little vegetable oil and it works extremely well. I think this mincer will probably outlive me.

      Hello Surma, you’re right about the lifespan of the Tre Spade 💪🏻 I’m going to do a vid on the motorising of mine soon...

      @@GrantWyness After doing a few grinds having it driven by a cordless drill in a simple frame I am going to by a second hand corded drill, pull the casing off and put the guts of it into a motor box with a dial type potentiometer to replace the trigger, an on/off switch and another switch for direction of rotation. should be super simple to do and make it a bit easier to use than what I have now.
      The hardest part is making a motor box that I can engage and disengage from the tail of the meat grinder screw.

    Thank you for one of the best detail looks at a standard grinder. What country are you In? This Tre Spade looks to be better quality than the many generic Chinese grinders on the market. I just motorized a 22 Porkert to @150 Rpm, and it's a incredible fast machine. I have that same Inox cutter and it is not stainless, it is hardened steel and thus much better than most stainless on the market. The plates are usually plain steel also, but that is an advantage in that few types of stainless can take a good edge and retain it. Ideally, if you want to take it to a microscopic level, the knife and the plate should be lapped together until a full surface mating surface is formed. I don't know what the Rockwell hardness is on these machines cutters, but ideally the plate and the knife should be different in hardness so one can be the sacrificial element.

      Hello Richard - I’m in the UK - the Tre Spade is Italian made. You’re right about the blade hardness and material. I have found the supplied blades made by ‘Raut’ to be fit for purpose and appear to be ever so slightly softer than the Tre Spade blade. All the best

    Great video! Would you go for an aluminium or cast iron body? I'm getting one and I'm a bit undecided.

    • @GrantWyness
      @GrantWyness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Claudio, I’m not a fan of aluminium as it oxidises too readily. Aluminium oxide is not good for you - tin plated cast iron is the way…

    hey Grant, thanks for the video!!! just purchased. any tips for set up, securing it, maintenance and the cleaning process. will it crush soft bone for raw dog food do you think?

      Hello R, check out my other vid - th-cam.com/video/qN8bXN0qbNQ/w-d-xo.html - cleaning it is an eight minute operation. It’s logical and not worthy of a vid as it’s basic washing up. The No22 mincer will smash soft bone. If you don’t have a budget constraint, buy the size No32 mincer, it will destroy all. 🍻

    Hi Grant, I'm loving these reviews. Bought a 3L sausage stuffer like yours from Amazon and yeah it is a bargain and well made. But in this review of the mincer, at 5:05 you said you're using a different mincer for chorizo because this manual grinder smears the fat. However, you didn't mention the name of the new mincer that I assume does a better job。

    • @GrantWyness
      @GrantWyness  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daryl James Hello Daryl, you’re right, my cogitations could confuse! The Trespade #22 is a supreme mincer/stuffer, but for chorizo and other coarse salami types, don’t use it as a stuffer, use the dedicated one you now have. The Trespade is a great breakfast sausage all in one machine as you can put the meat and herbs etc through as many times you like, and then put a nozzle on. Yes, the Trespade will take very coarse plates - but it will still mince, smear and grind the meat regardless - certainly not desirable for chorizo. Hope that helps?

      @@GrantWyness Thanks so much for clearing that up. I'm keen to try your recipes but I'm really trying to create Chinese.air cured sausages, Lop Cheung (sweet) and MaLa (numbing and spicy). These use alcohol (baijiu) hard liquor as a curing agent, but I'm also looking for the same nice chunks of pork fat you're after in the Chorizo. Hence my specific questions about the mincer. Cheers from Australia and keep up the excellent channel!
