Live the Adventure 2024 idea for 4 skeins from stash! I thing the boys should pick the four without you seeing and go ahead and wrap them up so it’s a surprise and a memory of the boy! They could even add a note for you to read that Sunday with a memory or a blessing for you the coming year!

Shortie socks, baby items for charity are my two main projects for scraps. or cowls with two held double. I also made two Murder Knits Shawls, which is a super simple garter stitch shawl that you just knit with a scrap until it runs out, then join a new one. I absolutely love both of them and wouldn't mind making another one. Its an asymmetric crescent shape and you can stop whenever you want. I have pictures in IG in the spring of 2022. I know you don't crochet, but for me I love Kaye's granny square shawls made with scraps too. Kids after school programs or senior centers are great places to donate unwanted yarn for their arts and craft or charity projects.

Nursing homes in your area may take scrap yarn. They can use for crafts or give to residents who knit

Hi Amanda. That is a great idea for your advent. That was a lot of work to write all of that down. For your scraps, a lot of people like making scrappy blankets, maybe you could sell them.

I am not a big blanket knitter. I think I am, and then I get into the project and my desire just fizzles out. Maybe that will change. I hope it will! I want to like knitting blankets.

For your 2024 advent idea - I think you should let the boys and your hubby each pick out a skein from all of your sock yarn, wrap each up, and include a note for you!! And for the 4th one - they should pick one out together and include a "group" Christmas card they create for you. That would be such a special and fun personalized advent for you!!!!❤

So many ideas given here on scraps! I'm not a knitter, but I do crochet (mainly with Red Heart worsted weight). At the moment I have two afghans going with scrap yarn. One is a structured pattern with a different color for each round. I've randomized my colors and have used each color between 2-4 times. Second afghan is double yarn and simple double crochet rows. Again, very random. I started with 2 colors, switched out1 color, and I'm continuing on in the same manner for varied amounts of rows or partial rows. They're for me and they'll be cozy.
Now, onto organizing...I'm a quilter, like Sean. My room is a disaster area, but I'm taking steps, baby steps. I've pretty much got my WIPS organized. I need to organize everything else 😵‍💫. I like your idea of writing down your yarns. I need to do something similar with my fabrics. Thanks for the inspiration!

You can make some shortie socks with the leftovers. I’ll make my l husband a pair and with the leftovers I make myself shorties! I also double the yarn and make DK weight blankets.

I don't really have a desire to knit with my scraps. I just kinda want to go to the next yarn. It's weird, I know. :) :)

For your scrap yarn, several thoughts: would it still feel like scraps if you made a magic knot ball and then maybe a corner to corner or granny stripe? Or hold three together and make a hat for charity. If so, maybe seriously think about why you’re keeping them? Is it because everyone else does? Give yourself permission to not keep them. Bag them up and put them on destash in LIS? Use the money to take the boys out to do something fun? Hope that helps. Have an amazing day!

Great job organizing and cataloging your yarn, Amanda! Making note of which bin everything is in will be so useful.
I am not great at using scraps, either. I bought a Zoom Loom, and once I figured out what I was doing it was pretty quick to weave a square. Each square uses only 8 yards of DK or worsted weight yarn, or 16 yards of fingering weight. I’m planning to make a throw pillow cover to start, but there are a lot of interesting project ideas out there.
I may eventually make a big magic knot ball. I love the scrappy monster Musselburgh that Carrie from Stolen Minutes made with her magic knot ball.

Wow such progress! Would ladies from your church use your “scraps” to make things for a possible “ church sale at Christmas “ for donations? Pot holders, wash cloths, tops for hanging towels? I have the same issues with TONS OF FABRIC! Bless you and your family

Make your scrappy socks and then have some give aways with enough yarn to combine with a main color for your viewers. I’m wearing a pair of socks today made from the greenish color I won from you. And still have enough for another pair and a cozy memories block. Hope you all enjoyed the movie.

I have my scraps in an Anchor Hocking glass jar. It's so pretty and I love just looking at it 😀 This year for Advent I worked on a Jelly Roll blanket with whatever random color appealed to me that day. It was very freeing and my husband actually commented that he'd never seen me have so much fun with my knitting. Loved seeing how you're getting everything organized!

Love seeing how you organize - I too love to get things in order at the start of the year. Your idea for Advent 2024 of four different pairs of socks is a great one! Sounds perfect to me - I may have to borrow this idea for myself!

Another idea for scraps is the fits the whole fam had from cozy up knits - take 3 or 4 fingering weight scraps that all kinda go together and hold three of them together to make a worsted/bulky yarn then as you run out of one scrap add in another scrap until you finish out the hat - they are super quick and I have 3 or 4 of these in my jeep for when you see people in need on the side of the road or I donate them directly to the shelter.

Scrap idea. Since shorty socks are my preference I have a lot of leftover yarn. Last year all of the scraps were put into little bags to be opened randomly this year to make a second pair in a different pattern or size for someone else.

I am taking all my fingering weight sock yarn and making a scrappy shawl just to wear around the house because I know it is not going to be the prettiest, but it is letting me use them up. I am holding it double to have a heavier weight shawl.

For your scraps I recommend The Garden Party Pullover. Ina Knits talks about hers in her latest podcast at the beginning of it. th-cam.com/video/kgauTS-UKRg/w-d-xo.html Or if you don't want to do a sweater take the same idea and apply it to socks or hats or mittens. She does also talk about taking two strands of sock yarn and knit them together in her Hygge Sock patter. That is another possibility. It makes it seem less scrappy in some ways when you apply two strands together to make things. =o]
