It's a great shot! I always find myself trying to imagine the movie that your setups belong to. But I can never resist the thought that Negative Phil must be a particularly grumpy member of the crew.
Terrific video. Good point about the panel light being light weight. I also love how you "make do" with what ya got when you have to... nice home made flag. Do more of these videos if you can. I've been shooting video professionally for almost 40 years but you never learn it all in lighting.
Dope setup. I pre-ordered the F22C, curious what boom stand you’re using. I currently have an impact combo boom stand that has a 3lb capacity when it’s fully extended...so no bueno.
@@BradyBessette Thanks for responding. I was referring to the impact combo boom stand that is aluminum, ultra light weight and versatile but load capacity fully extended is limited to 3lbs. After further research you’re using the impact boom arm that is steel, attaches to c-stands/junior/etc. and holds up to 8lbs. If the F22C with the mount and soft box is 6lbs+ the steel version is the way to go. I was hoping I could go ultra lightweight with my current boom stands (travel a lot to film) and maybe one solution is making an x bracket out of bambo and zip tying diffusion to the panels haha!
I’m adding to my light inventory. I already had two Pixel led panel lights, I could substitute those for the F22 as a key light if I chose to recreate this shot. I just purchased a GVM SD300B Pro and the GVM 80w. Could I substitute those for the 600 and the 300 if I shot a little later in the evening or at golden hour? It’s just a thought, I’ll get the GVM 400 or 650 if business determines I should
Professor Brady, I've got a question for you. I'm in process of writing a horror film which I intend to shoot as well. Now considering that I fall into the "no-budget filmmaker" category, I'll be using regular store bought lights to light my entire film. So here are my questions: 1. LIGHTING: Should I light my scene such that it's "well-lit" on location and then add the gloomy horror look in post production during the color grade, or light the scene on location as close to the intended final product? What do you think is the best approach as a "no-budget" filmmaker? I'm using an A73 to shoot. 2: WHITE BALANCE: As a rule, I usually set the white balance to day light(5600K) as this is as close to what the human eye sees. Is this a good approach? I've noticed that some shoot at 6000/7000K to get the blueish tinge, but it looks really unnatural to me eye. Professor It would really mean the world to me if you could make a video with guidelines that one can use when shooting a horror film. I've already watched one of your horror-tutorial videos but I'd appreciate a slightly detailed tutorial that looks into the many types of typical scenes that can be seen in a horror movie. Hope everything is well with you Professor Brady! I know that you are a busy man so I understand if this request is too much of an ask! Regardless, thank you for all that you do for the amateur filmmaking community.
Help me out here please. Should her hot side be on her right side of her face ie sun coming in ??? Her shadow side should be on her left side? PS LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Hey Brady, I'm so glad I found your videos. I am currently attending Full Sail University and getting my Bachelor's degree in Cinematography. Students including myself were each given the Sony FX6 and I am learning the in's and outs as much as I can. Would you be willing to do a breakdown of the camera? We were only scarcely told about it and its features.
Check out Philip Blooms FX6 Review + follow up videos, it has so much in depth detail about everything FX6. Also look for Robert Machado's CineEI breakdown, it's pretty useful. It's such a capable camera. I absolutely love mine.
You really nailed the lighting for that location! Looks great. Which picture profile did you use for the fx6 and what was you color correction process?
"casting a little yellow on him". What? That wasn't a him... *Camera slowly pans right. "It is a him?!". Anyways, I'm curious, shooting LOG and creating a stylized look in post, or setting up the scene with the right lights and filters to achieve an "organic" stylized look. What is your preference?
Hahahaha we had a stand in before maya! But I personally shoot in log , since I don’t have “quick turnarounds”. Worst case shoot log and apply phantom lut or CST for a rec709 look
Crazy how much you can learn in such a short period of time. This was a perfect shot to me first time I watched this. Now, still a great shot, but the key light looks a bit unmotivated. The candles on the wall aren’t bright enough to be the motivation. And the light to dark contrast on her face isn’t soft enough for the light bouncing off of the wall to be the motivation. Maybe all it needed was a practical somewhere closer.
In all honesty from the second I started using this light I fell in love with it and said I’d use it all the time. It’s gaf taped to the ceiling of my moving truck right now for the doc. I’m filming
