I love being debt free! I own my home, zero debt and I was able to do it all myself by being willing to simply "go without" a lot of things that I just don't value more than financial security. It is worth it!!! I have suddenly found myself laid off, single and pregnant with my first child (Yay! It's a boy!). This had the potential to be the scariest time of my life. But between owning my home, my savings (it's really easy to save when you aren't paying rent) and living simply I will be able to provide for myself and my child without employment for at least a year. And I could continue to take care of all of our needs by working at a place like Starbucks. The security and peace this gives me is incredible. If an uneducated single mother with no outside support can do it- so can you!

Refreshing to see a responsible young family.
I'm also debt free. It started years ago with credit cards. Paying them off one at a time. Then, we concentrated all our efforts into the house. We used to have 4 cars. Sold 2 and all the money went to the house, etc... It's a real blessing being able to breath. To feel free from any stress.
    Thanks for sharing. Blessings

I went back to college at 33, my savings were used up by the end of the first year, so I took out a loan for the remainder. I was massively in debt by the time I had graduated which was pretty terrifying. The interest rates were through the roof, and I was estimating a 40 year payoff. I got a job, paid myself a small amount each month and didn't 'cheat'. I paid off EVERYTHING in a year and a half. I will never forget that last payment - FREEDOM. Now I can actually save. I still pay myself a set wage every month from my total income, the rest goes into the bank.

My husband and I both drive vehicles that we paid 3 grand for...and may I say they are actually really nice! Our farm house, barns and 5 acres we bought for $65,000 and we are 2 years in and only have 4 years left (we will be aggressive to pay off sooner) we have actually remodeled 75% (very affordably) and had our first baby. it's really nice to see others live the way my husband and I do. And I am also blessed to be able to raise my child at home

Oh Lisa you touched on so many amazing aspects of living a full life by not being in debt and living beyond your means. We are on the path to pay off our home in the next 3 years so when we do that it will be only a 10 years mortgage we had. I cant wait for that day to be 100% debt free from our home. its the only debt we have. I loved hearing your story and its very inspiring. You took a house and made it a home with all your hard work and love you put into it and now its even better because you own it 100%. Really enjoyed hearing your story.

New subscriber here. We just finished paying off our mortgage in September. We also did it in less than 5 years. Feels so good doesn't it? We made double payments. I was still able to stay home. I was also able to take care of my mother when she got sick. My husband was off work recently for medical reasons and it felt so good not having to worry about money. All is good now and he's back to work. We always plan to live frugally. It gives you freedom and peace of mind. Looking forward to catching up on all your videos.

I'm so happy to hear your story. I grew up in a family where financial responsibility was non-existent (i.e. foreclosure, repossession and more than 100k of debt). I am currently paying off the hole I dug myself in (thankfully, not a lot), and I see your story as an inspiration. It's a struggle being a single mom in my twenties and wanting things that other people have, but I have come to the realization that I don't want to work until 72 to pay my debt off.

I love this! We are three years from paying off our house. We actually just paid off our rental house, which felt amazing! Other than that we haven’t had any debt for at least 7 years. We haven’t tried very hard to pay down our mortgage though. We have enjoyed some nice vacations and down some expensive renovations on our house and yard. We will be 100% debt free before we turn 40!

This is great Lisa! Thanks for sharing this. We have a very similar story. We actually paid cash for our fixer upper farm and do not have a mortgage either! We have junker cars, do not have a TV, and have simplified our lives so we can live our dreams. Even though my husband loads trucks for Walmart I am able to stay home with our girls. It was so worth all the sacrifice at the beginning of our marriage to now be able to live with financial freedom! Simple living helps you focus on what truly matters.

Isn't it so amazing that you can live so free with such a small income? I have had women say to me, "well, my husband doesn't earn enough for me to stay to home." I guess they think I married a doctor or lawyer. We paid off our house back when he still earned 14 bucks an hour. It is SO worth it! Thank you so much for watching, friend!

Very seldom do you find someone of your age that is so responsible. So many young families want it all and want it now. Credit cards are nice to have for emergencies but I see so many people that are in debt over their heads. I'am 64 years old and I sew and make a lot of things myself instead of spending a lot of money. We are in a position to be able to get what we want but we live a very simple life. It is refreshing to hear you say that you don't need a new car or new furniture to be happy. I must tell you that I have wondered how you keep your house so neat and clean with 4 children. I see all the white in your home and I love it. I'am so glad I found your channel. I loved the tutorial you did on slip covering the chairs. You said "you have a pillow business" and I hope you will share some photos of that. You don't need material things in life and you live simply but you are very rich because you have your husband and 4 (almost 5) beautiful children.

I have such respect for you and your hubby for living a debt free life. We are barely just achieving this goal in our 40's and have decided to sell everything to downsize and simplify our lives. We are realizing how much having material things can complicate and stress us out! The little fixer upper we are moving into is a 1970's time capsule but seeing the beautiful job you've done to your home gives me hope and I'm super excited. I love the minimal farmhouse style. Thanks for your great advice and videos.

Smart young couple. My husband and I have been debt-free since 2000. It took us 8 yrs. but it was worth it. Each time we paid something off, we celebrated with ice-cream cones. That might not sound like much to some, but once you stop eating out, it can be quite a treat. There's nothing like owing no man. Just wish we would've been smarter sooner! (Same here, Lisa. Our biggest expense is organic food. However, the health issues I once had, are beginning to disappear.).

Thank you so much for this. My husband and I have a plan to pay off our current home before we would consider purchasing our family home down the road. I was feeling grumbly tonight about this very colorful (avocado green ;) bathroom of ours I want to renovate and this video reminded me of the diligence and patience I want to have as a wife. We have done plenty to this house in the 2 years we've been here and I think it was a good reminder for me that its time to buckle down and keep it simple. Thank you for the reminder in patience. :)

Great job! Happy for you and your family! You are a wonderful example to follow! My father in law lived by those same principles...built his house paycheck by paycheck and saved money to pay cash for his vehicles. Never took out a mortgage, car loan or credit card. Lived a simple but happy life! 🏚👍🏼😍 New subscriber...loving your channel! ❤️

I am so inspired by this video! I am in my early 40’s already and my husband and I just bought our 3rd home a bit over a year ago. After a few months I realized we do not need so much space, the kids are grown up, have moved out and I want to downsize to do just this! I see us in a small rancher, no more than 2 bedrooms and priced low enough to pay off in a span of 5 years. I even had a tax plan idea! Except it took me 40 years to figure it out. I believe we still may have a chance. I think you’re planning a great future for your family. Thank you for sharing your story.

This video was so encouraging! My husband and I just bought our first house and we are in the process of paying that off. It's not often that you find other young couples who are passionate about staying out of debt!
Would you consider making a video on your monthly grocery budget and how you save money eating mostly organic, healthy food?

Hey Susi! We aren't really budgeters. I just try to spend as little as possible, but I don't keep a close eye on it. I did a video recently on what we actually eat, if that helps: th-cam.com/video/b_2JIAAFG7E/w-d-xo.html

I think you and your husband did GREAT! I really enjoy watching your videos but this one is the most motivating! Sometimes longing for debt freedom feels lonely...like the whole world except for Dave ramsey says a 30yr loan is fine and my heart just races so fast whenever I think of a 30yr loan. We are looking to buy a new to us house and I want to look for something as cheap as livable allows for my geographical area. I don't know if 5yrs is doable but I just want to do the best I can to get out of debt fast.

Love your story...it mirrors ours. Any extra money we got, we put it on the principal.
We loved getting the monthly statement from our bank, seeing how much less was going to interest.
The day I brought in the final payment, I hugged every employee...I was SO overjoyed.

I love your channel and it's encouraging. We set out to be debt free 7 years ago...short story. We currently have 1 car payment that will be paid off this year we are so excited. But yes we are very careful to not get debt. I grew up in a debt free home and saw the advantages of that and my husband did not. So being debt free will be something you can pass to your kids that will teach them more than you realize.

Thank for this post! We paid off everything except for our mortgage 10 years ago (30k in 2.5 years). Because we were mostly debt from we we're about to cash flow our adoption and I worked part time only for several years. I recently realized that in order to meet our goal of living completely debt free I needed a better income so I am now in nursing school. This next year will be a tough one mentally and financially but I think that like becoming debt free, it will be worth it in the end!

thumbs up for you . your discipline is a encouragement for those who do not even live on limited income. My husband and I have the same way of doing things. we only buy when we have the money to buy. now our kids are grown up. we live debt free and can help others who are in need to but are financially challenged. it is a real blessing and true freedom.

    Congratulations.
Perfect example of not living above your means.
We have also always bought fixer uppers and did most of the work ourselves.
We sold a few times and became debt free.
Currently we are trying to pay a mortgage on a second house off in five years.
We stuck to only 2 children, are driving used cars and renovating second house while
Renting out the first. I am currently a stay at home mom as well.
I will probably get a job again once kids are older to help save for retirement.
Keep up the good work. I only discovered you now, so I must still check out all previous blogs.

Thanks for being a good example to young people. I get so frustrated seeing new couples wanting on day one all new things and the amount of things it took their parents/grandparents 30-40 years to be able to afford and possess. I remember icky used couches and being grateful for them. I also get angry with people criticizing larger than average families like yours who are doing everything right and are not a burden to society if anything you are doing the very thing families are supposed to, Grow. Wish you well thanks for the video- good info.

Thank you for sharing your debt free story. I'm single, daughter in college (almost done). I retire from my current job in 2019. I'll be relocating to Texas, purchasing my home. I have plans to live off my next income, save my pension, pay off whatever debt I have. I'm grateful it isn't much. I'm glad you made a point about not purchasing a bigger house, even though you have a few children. Everything you said made since, now you have me thinking even more for the future.
