    Why include the electronic elements that are clearly of lesser quality than the rest?
    You may as well add a dj or keyboardist to pick up the slack.
    You could also use different pedals to distinguish between the two basses.
    It’s really nice when you are playing different parts.
    But all the unison playing seems kinda pointless with the same tone.
    It’s good though. Very skilled. Pretty at times.
    But there’s a lot of space where something more exciting could be happening.

    • @ororor2769
      @ororor2769 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the electronic elements are a collective effort and become a synergistic 4th member of the band by proxy. I would never say they are of lesser quality, I suppose you mean less complicated and not as prominent? I think that's kind of the point. It compliments the rest of the composition and supports it.
      You can distinguish between Toby and Matt for the most part in the attack and technique. They are both super skilled, but I can always tell which parts Toby has written and same for Matt. To have a different sound for each bass would give the effect of a duel but I think in this track its very much about 1 sound with many riff types, played by both. I see Matt as a virtuoso, very fast and owns the fretboard and has a beautiful plucking technique that gives a springy brightness in clean sections and a meaty thung in overdrive. Toby is just....he is amazing, his thump technique as far as I am aware is one of a kind - in how he employs it, it's like a mechanical thud followed by fizzing harmonics and ear pleasing bends.
      Listen to The Lifeless Charm - you get a real sense of 2 bassists duelling, lots of textures.
      I wanted to comment cause I think The Omnific are still so young in their tenure despite having an array of records already under their belt. Escapades I think is just the beginning - its what they were always driving towards in my opinion and they had a blossoming flash of inspired writing on this entire record. They only showed us 10% of their power - all 3 of them are more talented than they realise and have created a genre that has captivated bassists in the first instance and musicians who are looking for something different in a saturated market.
      Sorry if this sounds argumentative, I'm just a huge fan.

    • @50centwithamustache86
      @50centwithamustache86 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ororor2769 please tell me more about the "meaty thung"

    • @ororor2769

      @@50centwithamustache86 Its all good man. Meaty thung is just a phrase I made up for the chung of the Dwam. You know, the Matai and Potatoes.
      I happen to believe 2 bassists and a drummer is a new genre, name me another band this the way the boys do? I ain't arguing with you and nope I bot gonna settle down. I love The Omnific. Absolutely adore them with all my atoms. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

    • @buckemptier
      @buckemptier 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@50centwithamustache86 You call dgent a genre ? i liked it when it was just called progressive metal. i was listening to this shit 20 years ago, Gordian Knot, Cynic , LTE , Dream Theatre, …. going all the way back to King Crimson . “Dgent” isn’t any more or less of a genre than Omnific is , because all of it is just prog metal. Dgent better describes a tone, and Gordian Knot was playing that tone long ago.

    • @buckemptier
      @buckemptier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you ask why include the electronic elements then criticize that there is plenty of space where more could be going on… i’m pretty sure that’s the point of the electronic element . The synth is playing pad voicing, it’s intended to be background. The idea is that the bases are the lead instrument. Of course there could be more going on , there could be guitars, but then it would be like every other rock band ever, and that wouldn’t be very novel , and then they’d just be a regular band with too many bass players . if the synth was playing leads then the synth would be the lead instrument, whereas i’m pretty sure the bass is the lead instrument. And there’s not nothing else going on; did you notice how totally fucking sick their drummer is? If this track doesn’t impress you check out more , their drummer is fucking rad , if they covered up these skilled bass players and their even more skilled drummer , that would defeat the purpose. If you’re gonna piss on it at least think about what they are trying to do , and ask yourself whether they are pulling it off. i think they are pulling it off well, i have never seen a band more successfully roll with two bass players and no guitars, in fact i’ve only seen one other band do it, not nearly as well. Do you know if any others?

      I think if you look deeper, to me it feels like a repetitive descent into dementia and torment. The song is about Merlins ID - The very essence of someone, their ego their persona, their soul. I hear repeat patterns with shocks of synth cutting in, almost like a brain struggling to cope with what once was simple and easy tasks. The slip into low resolution points towards misunderstanding and familiarity becoming obscured behind doubt and confusion. It also points towards the phrase about the definition of madness - repeating something and expecting a different result. The thundering riff that repeats I think is a nod to this phrase.
      I'm happy to be wrong but I think the boys allow their music to be open to all types of interpretations. Thanks for educating on what a Coda is though!
