    The Chinese title of this song is '蝉喓歌', which means 'the song of the chirping of cicadas'. In Chinese culture, cicada is the symbol of immortal and eternity, which means undying. The vocal sound in this song is called 'the Dong's Chorus', a kind of a cappella from the southwest part of China. It's a traditional music of the Dong , one of the 56 ethnics of China. This form of performance has a history of thousands of years, and is usually performed by thousands of people together.
    And here's translation:
    Phase 1:
    It's vibrant when the sun rises, but gets withered when the sun sets.
    Just like the mayflies and the dew, sighing the rest time of life is so short.
    Your whole busy life is short as only one day, what a tragedy!
    Phase 2:
    Bewail for the elapse of time!
    The struggle of life, the sadness of senescence, the pain of sickness. All of them is because of the terror of death!
    Even as the noble body of celestial being, there is also a day of ending. You can do nothing but sighing.
    The divine tree is exuberant, flowers and grasses grow around it.
    And now the divine fruits are on the branch!
    Phase 3:
    I take the order of the god, with such a long and prosperous life!
    With the bless of heaven, I will spray the shine among the stars!

    For those who don't know, the lyrics isn't in Chinese or mandarin. It's DONG. It's language of an ethnic tribe in China that solely rely on speaking, that's because dong has no script so majority of the lyrics is sung like sutras and the other parts are done by tibetan language

    • @lagrangewei
      @lagrangewei ปีที่แล้ว +6

      there is no tibetan.

      @@lagrangewei the music composer themselves said that they took inspiration from tibetan language in their behind the scenes video, wtf you're saying 🙂

      Check the video again, what they said is they “tried” various elements including tibetan however until they heard Dong they decided to settle with it. In the music there is only Dong but not tibetan in the end.

    • @wesyoung296

      Actually they didn't, they tried, but finally gave up. This is the Dong's language.

    The thing about Star Rail's boss themes that I think is different with Genshin's is that the "boss themes" tells the story of the fight between the protagonists with the boss instead of just being all about the boss. Like the last phase in this Phantylia theme, they started adding Xianzhou's and Jing Yuan's theme that gradually takes over the song as a sort of resolution. That's why the last phase feels a bit different and suddenly feels more positive. It's like a mix of a boss theme and our (the protagonists) fight/battle song

    • @spymadmax584
      @spymadmax584 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      We'll get more time to explore about the boss pov in genshin so the osts are written from their perspective.
      Whereas in hsr, the Pacing of stories are quite quicker so we'll get little to no time learning about the bosses. Take cocolia for example, she came and died in a single chapter. PEOPLE who played hi3 know how important is cocolia for the story.

    • @skyzell5029
      @skyzell5029 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@spymadmax584 Tbh Cocolia is not that important in Hi3 as well, she play as an "opening" characters to open the opportunity to seele and bronya to have more development while in HSR she also became a "opening" characters that allow bronya meet us and then meet seele. Other than for bronya and seele honestly cocolia doesn't have any important role in both game

    • @spymadmax584
      @spymadmax584 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@skyzell5029 the point I was trying to make is that we don't need to focus on the bosses in hsr since the story pacing is fast.
      Forget cocolia, phantalia was introduced in this patch, there's not much foreshadowing of her in previous patches , except for the tingyun from teaser that came out an year ago.

    I love how in the third phase there are hints of Honkai Star Rail's main theme's leitmotive in the middle of the really heroic and emotional part that kinda reminds us how monumental this fight is.

    Phase 2 boss theme is great but phase 3 is something else. There is literally a fight going on where the track pulls you between hope and despair plus those Man of Steel drums are otherworldly

    The boss is some kind of "galaxy destroyer" in a weak body. At the beginning she starts toying with us but she starts taking more seriously as the fight goes on

    • @cktan5369
      @cktan5369 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The boss was in her optimum form, after she got the ancient artifact of Medicine Master Yaoshi and used it to made an almost indestructible/undying body with infinity healing power. The artifact also powered by Stellaron, which is literally the Cancer of All Worlds that can destroy a planet. She herself is one of the seven Lord of God of Destruction, by combining all the power, she gained a flesh that possessed the power of both Destruction and Abundance, a form that embodies the cycle of death and rebirth. An Emanator with two paths is so crazy powerful. Even she feel sad and regret for losing the body that may help her to avoid fated destruction.

    That form of choir singing is called the Bulgarian chant choir, first popularized by Kenji Kawaii for his now 8conic theme for the 1995 anime film adaptation of the cyberpunk manga, "Ghost in the Shell".
    You should cons8der checking out "Making of a Cyborg" by Kenji Kawaii if this song picqued your interest.

      Not exactly, in this case it's a type of traditional Kam singing style from south east China. It utilizes similar techniques as Bulgarian chant choir. There's actually even more cultures that utilise similar singing techniques, making them all have a similar sound quality.
