Benny like the other members has made a fantastic contribution to ABBA. His first class approach to music goes backs to 1960s . His partnership with Bjorn was an evolution and started the ABBA magical strategy.

First time I've heard him speak. Seen other interviews with Agnetha, Bjorn & Frida but this is the first with Benny. Thank you for sharing this!
Benny always seemed more reserved than the other members of ABBA, but in this interview he is refreshingly open and honest. He seems happy with his lot. His musical arrangements have a special style that diffentiates him from other talented musicians. Great interview and immaculate english too.

for me Benny & Bjorn are the best songwriters of all time. I can't think of any artists who have written so many brilliant songs - not only the hits but the album stuff too. I was hooked at Waterloo, right through to there last uk hit "under attack". And the music still sounds amazing 42 years later.

I agree with Ryan. I really like both Billy J and Neil, and much of what Beatles did, but none of them beats B & B. Maybe the Fab four had a greater impact on music industry but when it comes to number of great quality songs, no (of course this is a matter of taste)
But I guess ABBA is more played and more popular today than the Beatles
And Benny Andersson Orchestra continues with a new album out 2024.

Benny says he hasn't got a singer's voice? What I hear when I listen to "Lycka" or "Kaera gamla sol" is a very beautiful tenor voice. As I learned to speak Swedish at the age of fifteen, I understand the lyrics, and "Kaera gamla sol" has become a tradition to be sung in our home in Franken (North Bavaria) with my kids and now with my grandchildren on 21st December.. In fact, these two songs are among my absolute favourites. So I say yes, Benny, in my ears you do have a singer's voice.

Great group with great songs. I don't know that the interviewer intentionally tried to ridicule their clothing style in the interview. Their are those who might laugh at the clothing that they sometimes wore on stage but you have to understand at that time that was the style however exaggerated it may have appeared. I grew up in that era and that was the style. Elephant bell bottoms and platform shoes were cool then. Thirty years from now our children and grandchildren may be saying the same thing about todays fashions. Truly a supergroup though that has transcended time.

"The stars really are the guys who wrote it and put it together" WRONG, they wrote the songs, the girls brought them to life with
their unique sound. The magic happened when the four of them worked together, nobody was bigger than the other, they were all equally as important.
Dan Frost and both men made the biggest mistake by cheating and letting the girls go! The girls so loved and were so hurt by them

No it's the writers who make it all possible. The girls were good but it's the writing that is indispensable. There are loads, literally thousands, of good singers. There's only one Benny and Bjorn.
@@MrMikomi And there's only one Agnetha & Frida, they weren't just good singers, their voices together had that special unique sound which I've never heard anyone else do. Many fantastic singers have covered "Winner Takes It All" but none of them have ever come close to Agnetha. Good songs have a life of their own and being a great singer doesn't mean you make the song great.
@@danfrost3043 I agree with you. Even Bjorn admitted at an interview that he he has never found any other couple of singers who could match their voices as well as Frida and Agnetha. Abba ended because they fail to keep the girls with them. Their private life determined the end of the group

Benny gets life I think. It’s happenings and meanings which to me comes from wisdom. And that wisdom I think comes from a reverence or respect for life and people and doing good things and having good thoughts. He’s a very good man and I think the other band members are essentially the same. That’s what makes their music so powerful as well as their presence when performing. They have that aura of goodness and love. Sounds corny but true I think.

What, no shade to Agnetha, Benny? Honestly, at times Benny rubs me the wrong way... he comes off a bit of a jerk sometimes.
Benny has also stated that he would, if he could, he would like to erase from the experiences + memories of some things he has said and done.

Well. Agnetha still lives in Stockholm. Frida supposedly in Zermatt, Switzerland. The interview was recorded in Stockholm I believe.
Well, they did get divorced.
I'm not surprised at all. Benny has been pretending to be indifferent and even cold regarding Frida since they got divorced. He has stated that they are "normal Swedish people", but none of them has ever been really natural towards each other in interviews or in public aparitions. One does not see Björn and Agnetha afraid to talk about their own relationship or uncomfortable to be together in public. That said, I think it is pretty obvious what's going on between Benny and Frida since they split up, even though it's fair to say that they seem to be a little bit more relaxed nowadays than they used to be until a few years ago.
I totally agree with you. You can pick up that coldness between Benny and Frida. It's not Frida it's all coming from Benny. An air of indifference. Must be hurtful for Frida.
It seems he may have mellowed some with time and experience.
Benny is the humble one, Bjorn is the hot-headed one, I think.

I always had the impression Björn (having the best English) gave a lot of Interviews, even trying to answer the stupid questions diplomatically while the others looked nonplussed at times (understandibly). I always got the impression Benny wanted to go back to his piano ;-)...
plus Björn is still the one doing the majority of the press work etc... and think all four Abba members are humble and approachable...

I said that before,I think Benny,and Björn are way too critical about their own music,many times they have expressed criticism about their music which everyone else feel is great...I know its because they are all humble,its their swedish upbringing and heritage but also as they are as personalities...

@@dreasbn , They have pretty wives. Of course, they are forty years older, and still with the same wives. Many people marry very young, and it doesn’t work. Then second time around it works. This is not so rare.
