  • Hey everyone,
    I've decided to do a work series for people interested in different jobs suitable for students with flexible hours (zero hour contracts). Today I'll be going into details of what the role of a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) entails as I get this question a lot. Applying for a HCA role can be difficult sometimes. I'll be touching on the type of roles expected by a HCA in a hospital and community. Everywhere is different for a HCA so I'll high recommend doing your research and find out what role is suitable for you.

    I've just been offered a HCA job and accepted. I start 28th January with physio training (manual handling etc). I'm excited but nervous. My job is working with mentally impaired 18+. I've worked with this background before but never the toiletry side or washing side to it. I've heard it gets easier after the first few times. Thanks for the advice, it's really helped me understand alot more and be more calm and prepared! 😊 P. S I'm working between 7am - 9pm full time.

    Brilliant and informative video! It's amazing to see what it's like on the frontline during these unprecedented times! I really appreciate the hard work and dedication of all NHS employees to help defeat this invisible killer! I applied for an Healthcare Assistant and emailed beforehand expressing my interest and asking if I could do it as an Apprenticeship. I was told they would let me do it as an Apprenticeship in a department which was happy. I literally applied with no experience just my passion and interest (I didn't even have a Care Certificate and I only had basic First Aid knowledge). I was invited to an Interview. I found the Interview alright not too hard. Fortunately and I'm very grateful, I was successful and I am going through security clearance. In the future, I aim to complete a Nursing Degree Apprenticeship and eventually work myself up the ranks to become a Nurse Consultant. Being 18, it will be daunting but I can't wait to get started!

    I wish I saw this earlier I’m looking into being a physiotherapy and want to get a hca role in the rehabilitation/therapy wards as a bank or full time before becoming an actual physio. It’s been hard seeing these roles so I hope I’m lucky I have a lot of qualifications that relates to the job thankfully but I’ve never had a job interview before so that would be very new.
    Also if u don’t mind me asking what kind if shoes do you wear? And when doing full time how many days a week? Is it possible that you can switch to bank role after doing full time?

      @LifeofHelena  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey,
      I really hope you find the role you're looking for soon! It will definitely be a good experience for you.
      In terms of shoes, I wear comfortable, covered shoes with good soles. The store Clarks have good pairs, but they are not particularly glamorous lol.
      In terms of the shifts, this varies in different workplaces. For example, where I work, full-time HCA worker either work across 3 days (12.5 hours x 3 days a week) or 5 days (7.5 hours x 5 days a week). So, both shifts will add up to 37.5 hours a week.

    How important is maths? I struggle with numbers since I’m dyslexic so that’s what stops me. Last year I didn’t go to an interview because they wanted us to do a maths test. But im going to at least try this time.

      Sis I’m the same I don’t like maths 💀💀it’s not dyslexia though dyslexia is only for words and English I heard I’m very good at English but there’s another name for people who aren’t good at math the same way people are dyslexic…it’s not that we are dumb it just doesn’t register as quickly as others 😭

    Four months since you posted that video. You should have a wilder view now. Could you tell me, is there an opportunity to develop in the HCA role please? Or I must have a certain degree and years spent at a University to apply for Band 3 job?
    Another question would be about shift. Do you think is that possible to start work from 8:30 or 9am plus eight hours on five days a week as a Health Care Assistant in a Hospital? Your answer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

      @LifeofHelena  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't need a degree to apply for a Band 3 HCA.
      Yes, you can do further trainings. If the opportunity comes, you can progress from an HCA to a Nursing Associate, Nursing Apprenticeship or Assistant practitioners/Associate Practitioner. Nursing Associate is an apprenticeship and you have the chance to study towards becoming a Registered Nurse (if you want).
      You can check these websites for more information:
      www.rcn.org.uk/professional-development/your-career/hca/career-paths-for-hcas
      www.search.co.uk/blog/2018/09/how-to-climb-the-nhs-career-ladder-from-healthcare-assistant-to-registered-nurse
      In regards to the shifts, it might be possible to start work at that time and work for those hours.

    • @LifeofHelena
      @LifeofHelena  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I’m glad you got the job!
      The requirements for HCA jobs varies. It’s just important to look at the requirements for the job. I’ve applied to different HCA jobs and sometimes they require:
      GCSEs (Maths and English)
      or literacy and numeracy test
      or just previous experience (sometimes)
      or a healthcare related certificate

    Hey everyone,
    I’ve been getting a few questions about applying for an HCA job from abroad or relocating to the UK to work as an HCA.
    I have a TH-cam video explaining everything in detail:
    th-cam.com/video/Suzlo4u3BN0/w-d-xo.html
    Here are the links explaining the following requirements to be eligible for a Health and Care Worker Visa from the UK government website:
    Check out these links for information about this:
    www.gov.uk/health-care-worker-visa/your-job
    hcacareers.co.uk/relocating-to-the-uk/
    Check the NHS jobs website for HCA jobs. Other ways to find jobs that provide sponsorship:
    you can search for “Tier 2 Visa Sponsorship Job” on websites such as, Indeed, & Totaljobs etc.
    I hope this helps. Wish you all the best!
