How do you NOT have any pirate boarding in a PIRATE game!?!?
Your crew does it automatically, so technically there is boarding just not like other games people expect it to be like.
It feels like a free to play game
this is the best that modern game developers can do.
it's not just 'executives' - young game developers aren't the programmers that they were 20-years ago.
Today, if the engine doesn't support it, it's likely not going into the game.
Thus, moving to a new engine, or a new major version of an engine? You're going to lose all the things you had in the old one.
@@asdfbeauPalworld was made whilst the lead dev was actually teaching his team how to use the tech. No excuses from billion dollar company ubisoft.
Why they don’t put boarding in this game is beyond me. Half the fun of a pirate is looking drippy while swashbuckling ur way across a ship
Which you could literally do as much as you want in Black Flag yet this was meant to be inspired off that and is meant to be Ubisoft’s next big thing and this is the unfortunate state of it
How do you implement that style of combat into an online game with pvp elements tho?
@@GrudgeyCableand this is what most people don’t seem to understand, you can’t implement it without the system being abused by players, how can we board a ship and not have other ships come in and destroy us whilst we are fighting hand to hand… it’s just not possible when it’s online pvp, look at SoT, you jump onto another ship and yours gets sunk whilst your not on it lol
@@GrudgeyCablesimple u build it as a multiplayer coop game that can be played in private lobbies or in open lobbies and that way if ur in a open lobby u can have ur friends be your crew some of u jump on to the ship when boarding and do all the fun swashbuckling fighting and then if ur ship gets attacked u leave ur other crew on the ship to fight it off n if u don’t have friends to play with either don’t board ships or play in priv lobbies not actually that hard tbh
@@reddragon3824so basically an online mode only for your friends? And you think that would be fun pvp wise?
We live in times where the community does a better job with mods, than the whole gaming industry with their games.
Then maybe just maybe those moders should make a game then, maybe then people will stop whining.
This reason, is why these massive companies know they can just shovel a load of shit out and go "meh, it will be better later"
Also live in times where people will cry about the current state of shit on the internet all the while doing nothing to change it. You’re just wanting to cry to cry 😂
No ship boarding combat is a insane move to make. Because of that reason alone I won't be picking this up.
Exactly! Once I heard that, they lost me. There’s nothing they could show me that would convince me to buy this game now that there’s no land/boarding combat
Same if they don't make it like sea of thieves ain't no way im touching it
Meh me and 90% of people I've met online who play sea of theives left due to lame cosmetic rewards which makes progression feel mostly pointless
Not $60 dollars but $70. It’s $69.99. I wouldn’t spend $15 on the game and it releases in a few days lmfao
And add to the initial price the micro transactions. This is the most obvious example of too many captains on a leaky tub - they didn't pick the route they wanted to go pay up front or freemium like WoW Legends or Fortnite. Sure, micro transactions and subscription models on top of an up front cost were becoming popular with developers when they started, but they have missed the boat now. It could have been a very successful freemium or low entry game, but they missed the mark with the pricing as well as the play. Personally, I hold Sony, Microsoft and other platforms partially responsible for not questioning these developers and providing feedback on what pricing models work. Maybe people still buy the games and make them viable despite the hate...
I have no idea how Skulls and Bones been in the development for so damn long and this is all they could have came up with.
A game that copies another, decade old game, and does it badly.
Apparently they redid it multiple times, I’m guessing involvement from higher ups kinda fucked it.
This version of the game is only like 2 years of development I think
I have no idea how people like yall follow something for 10 years and then are GENUINELY surprised when it changes in those 10 years. TEN YEARS!
It is not actually based on Black flag anymore, that was the original idea back in 2017, but since then it changed course to being it's own thing, and then again adjusted to aim for a next gen only release. 7 years of development with major changes is usually a recipe for a game that will confuse or upset players that don't understand how game development works or haven't kept up on what's happening with said games development roadmap.
They've been spending all their time having leads abandon ship and being tied to an ip they weren't allowed to scrap because of where it was being developed.
It was originally a project to train staff, it's why it took so long we had the newbs training to build this title.
I’m ok with waiting for that 60 to turn into a 6 in a month after release
Wouldn't play it even if it was free. Would rather prefer to pay to play AC Black Flag every day.
A black flag remake or remaster would have saved them so much time and money
Perhaps but I'd still rather a naval only multiplayer version of black flag, which this is pretty much a close enough match as the biggest issue I had with black flag, besides the amount of times the story took me off the ship to do the old usual assassins stuff, was the fact that the multiplayer was just assassination stuff, it didn't let me sail around with other Jackdaws or custom ships to go enact chaos across the ocean, I would love to have been able to take on a legendary ship with a group of friends or pick a fight with a huge fleet.
Pretty sure I was about to enter high school when this game was announced I was so excited because I loved black flag. I’m 24 now
@@jawless7616 if u saying we bought it because we’re children I think you’ve lost the plot. I’m 24 and stopped paying attention to it in like 2017. If that’s not what you mean can you explain lol
No land combat, and no boarding other ships. This game is going to be a hard pass for me.
It's not meant to have those things, it's a naval combat game, a genre of games that needs more good options as currently the best choices are World of warships, battlestations Pacific and that's about it as most others only include it as a mode rather than a dedicated sole thing.
@@adambrown6669 A naval combat game where you can spin your ship in place isn't a good option.
@@adambrown6669too bad the naval combat is “hold l2, click r2, repeat” and that’s pretty much all there is to do in the game, oh except click r2 some more to harvest stuff
@sticks7857 um you can spin ships in place irl I do it all the time on my scooner, the current hits the rudder forcing it to turn. Its like you have no idea on how ships work dude.
True I don’t think black flag will be topped when it comes to pirate games
I’ve never considered it the best pirate game out there. Although maybe it’s the best mainstream pirate game. That being said I’m sure one day something will come about that rivals it
Black flag is not a pirate game. As the name says, it's about Assassins. And if you would even understand the simplest basics of AC, you would know that all AC's are about Assassins in different timelines. This AC plays in the time of pirates..
@@jaymcndoodle9900 an assasin creed game is a better pirate game than actual pirate games
@@apuravnothing6985 actually not. Skull and Bones is made out of the ship mechanics of AC Black flag and particularly about the ship combat. Actually when I played Black flag, I always thought the actual sword combat on ships to get the loot was at some point just a waste of time. It's just always the same and it slowed down the gameplay. I like Skull and bones bc I can focus on the actual ship gameplay, that was the part I liked the most of AC black flag. A better pirate game would be Pirates of the Caribbean (2003). Funny since it was made by Bethesda and Ubisoft. It had awesome game mechanics, the only downside is that the graphics aren't the best. But that's bc it's a game from 2003.
Sea of Thieves is my pirate game. It’s so much fun.
Can't believe i was expecting this to be identical to sea of thieves. I have a PlayStation 4 and i excited for this so i can live the pirate life but no this is something else
@@JohnDoe-jr2pc Never played Fortnite. Doesn’t look like my kind of game. I have nothing against it, I just have no interest in playing it. How does it even compare to Sea of Thieves?
@@EI_Greko Sea of Thieves is one of a kind unfortunately lol you can get a Series S for pretty cheap nowadays if you look hard enough. Anything older than a Series S will stutter in some areas with Sea of Thieves. Trust me, if you’re being attacked by other players you want a smooth frame rate.
This game shouldn’t exist as it has no reason to…
The fact that they saw the success of AC Black Flag and decided to do Skull & Bones instead of Black Flag 2…just boggles my mind. 🤦♂️
That's a pretty arrogant statement, why does any game need a reason to exist? Simple answer, they don't need a reason, people have different tastes, just because you don't see a point to a game doesn't mean that's the end all on that topic. If people like you had their way gaming would be a boring dead art by now.
I don’t think people understand that no one who worked on black flag is even still at the company now no one there even knows how to read the code obviously after seeing this or the game would already be way better
The boat has a stamina bar… the boat it’s self had a stamina bar
It's sad how one short on youtube can ruin years of work
Some Ubisoft fella even came out and said they're charging full price because it's more of a 'Quadruple A' game. They must think we are all stupid and if you buy this game you probably are 😅
What’s going on with the gaming industry? First the suicide squad, now this. I feel like 2010-2016 games were way more thought out than now
I’m gonna say this for the last time… its not black flag… and it’s not sea of thieves… it is skull and bones, it will always be skull and bones… if you don’t like skull and bones…. Delete it
“It’s not bad” 😂😂
I just want a pirate game that gives me the same feelings I had when I read treasure island as a kid.
Ubi literally made a sailing simulator
Ubisoft is saying this is an AAAA standard game. Um, no, this game has the quality of something that came out a decade ago. Waiting for this to go on a sale of no less than 75%
This is pretty much what I assumed from the gameplay I’ve seen so far. It’s even kept me from downloading the beta because I could either pop in Black Flag or Sea of Thieves
As someone who played the beta. You guys have no idea howbfun it actually was.
@jessicaheller3076
I get burned out of games pretty fast. I finished black flag ages ago and never finished a second run. It's the same for most games. If all I play is SnB and I'm solo and don't have friends. Probsbly a month. With friends? Long time. Friends make a difference lol
'Our expectations were low but holy shit!'
I remember getting hyped but I can't believe it took this long.
Anyone remember the masterpiece that was the first Xbox pirates of the Caribbean? The one where you don't participate in the main story but instead are your own person?
I had Black Flag in 2007. Its been nearly 2 decades.
Clearly they didn't pay him enough to give a positive opinion
They should’ve gone with a sequel… the WEBTOON manga is great but I wanna actually play
If skull and bones made an on land pvp with swords and islands to explore then it would be one of the best games Ubisoft has ever made
It’s a naval ship game, the fact that anyone was expecting anything more says more about your intelligence and gullibility than anything else 😂
"Quadruple A"
They coulda just made a pirate game with both land and sea stuff to do just without the assassins creed banner and it woulda been good. Black Flag was one of my favorite games ever, but just a straight up pirate game without the assassins creed attachment woulda been so cool to see cause there’s so much more you could do choice wise.
Imagine having one of the most successful engines running something and you want to make a game even more focused on that particular thing then fucking it up
It's $70, and probably worthy of a free service game title
Im so glad me and my friends bought sea of thieves over this. We are having a blast
Black flag also gave you your own port to build up, ship upgrades, and you didn't have to micromanage your shipping empire. The sea and wind was also better in black flag. I can't see any of the improvements over black flag.
Would saying "It does being awful better than Black Flag" count?
The only real addition to this is the first person mode while sailing and the option to choose between a performance or fidelity mode on console
AC4 BF only ran on a stable 30 fps,but I'd take that over S & B's
Quadruple A quality ladies and gentlemen.
If anything, this game does less/worse than Black Flag
The most ironic thing is that Sid Meier's Pirates, which is a *37 year old game,* has everything Skull and Bones doesn't.
It's a bare minimum of a pirate, it's not even a pirate game. A ship battle game. When you control your character on hubs feels disconnected from the world, an afterthought and it feels like it used to be a menu but made it into a hub. Imagine watching Pirates of the Caribbean but all the footage happens on the ship. The atrocious Pre-orders packs, MTXs design to milk a sinking ship. Overall, it feels like a chore to play Skulls and Bones.
As an brazilian this is not worth the 300 amount of money that is charged here
Ship cosmetics, weapons,ships in general,looks, challenging aspect,pirate empire,etc
Whoever made the decision to get rid of boarding is an absolute donut. Like you’re basically forcing your fan base to play one way, and not only has it been done before AND BETTER, you’re not adding anything new to the experience that would justify not having boarding. This should’ve just been free to play.
Cant wait for crowbats video on it
Can we just get a next gen remaster of Black Flag please
I liked the feeling of sailing in Valheim.
Hope Ubisoft takes a hint,
and maybe will do something.
It literally added multi-player and made adjustments to it for that
Right and now there is glitches you can not get meat from fish or animals to make meals , also water at camps can not be picked up from water barrels, they spawn in ships that do not need to be in areas when your in a battle ,
They are charging $70. And in Canada its $90
The only thing i like about this game, is sailing around, and raiding ships while listening to sea shanties. Thats it. The story is more dry than sand.
Our ships could only level to 11 last week and l was up against a level 14 npc ship , then they updated everyone to a higher level after 3 days
They just released Valhalla not that long ago which had the raids function and ships, so why did they not just improve on that system? The raids were completely shallow in Valhalla, but somehow it's more of pirate game than Skull & Bones.
I wonder if people will get over combat difference and focus on what they actually created.
You think after a decade of development they would have been able to add actual land gameplay and battles similar to sea of thieves maybe but instead they spent 10 years just trying to copy and paste black flags sea gameplay and they couldn't even make it better?
The ship combat is most certainly not identical. It's trivialised substantially in Skull & Bones.
I would have been perfectly fine with them re-adding some of the same elements from black flag.
The developer said this is just the beginning. They have lots of updates for it.
They started popping out those creed games every year. This is probably the result of the incompetency of overexpansion.
Whoever made this game did not keep the gamers or the fun we wanted to have mind. And that is disgusting, they said this would be AAAA and they also charged 70 for this when they know damn well they made a better pirate game 10 years ago. I hope and pray ubisoft makes enough of these mistakes that they run out of funding to be releasing offensive games like this.
This could have easily been just an extension of black flag
I would love to have land combat and ship boarding.
It's basically assassins creed but on water half the time
Don't think I'll ever play a Ubisoft game again. Like even if it's actually good, which seems unlikely
Removing not being able to swing from a rope onto a pirate ship and fighting on the enemies ship from a pirate game is sinful, especially from the same company as black flag man
Because they focus on inclusivity and equity - not talent or creativity.
Gotta respect an honest opinion
I never thought I'd say this but Lost Ark has more engaging naval gameplay
Quadruple A, people!
Ubisoft need to stop with the fucking boats
Sea of Thieves is like 20 years ahead of this game its not even comparable. the ship combat in sea of thieves is honestly next to none.
The fact they were so confident in this game because they thought nobody was gonna remember how much better Black Flag was is crazy. Plus they released a demo to show people for free how shitty it is.
I’m very confused at people groaning about 60$ for a video game.
I was born in 1985 and I recall games being more than this 30 years ago….
I mean people will spend 40-100$ for a night of drinking or skip the dishes but hesitate to spend 60$ on something built to provide 50+ hours of entertainment.
A decade of development usually means 3 years of not doing shit in the office
Remember they said this was the first AAAA game ever lol
I payed 89 to play it 3 days early n im kinda bummed. It might as well not have land exploration and they could have done water sequences or something like diving in and retrieving stuff in shallow water. This game should have been revamped maybe updates will fix the land and make sea exploration monsters ect. More prevalent
The visuals during combat looked better, aaaaaand that's about it
We all just wanted literal online black flag, they couldn't figure out how to monitize that i guess.
Well, that's the thing about games that come out nowadays, it's either priced at 60 bucks Or a hundred bucks no matter if it's a AAA game and half built with 10+ updates😢
Makes me wish for a pirates of the Caribbean online reboot
Join the Helldivers
All I can say is that it IS playable, not as good as BF but still playable
I would've given them atleast 50 bucks for a Black Flag remake I know it was assassin's creed and its shit now but Black Flag was a legend
70 bucks minimum and they pushing hardcore that 100 dollar bundle. Plus all the good skins are behind paywalls
You paid 60 bucks to play the first months production of black flag 😂
That’s one of the biggest things of why I hate the game skull and bones. There is no land combat so you don’t get to see your character except for him just walking around collecting a quest or buying or purchasing items. It’s literally just a glorified ship simulator, and not even a good ship simulator at that 10 years and they want to claim this to be a quadruple a game Ubisoft, you’re about to end up like fucking blizzard with these deceitful lies and bad practices that you’re trying to pull on your customers
What were hundreds of developers even doing for so many years? I don't understand it.
Classic games industry, doing absolutely nothing to try anything different, churning out sexier graphics and asking for more money
Just give me a Black Flag 2 please.. I’ll accept a Black Flag remake.
Well the black flag remake is happening congrats.
Ezio colection deserves more a remake... black flag is still great to play, barelly aged, just the stealth is a little sloppy
God no they would ruin it 🤦🏾
that one already got a remaster, black flag has a few issues that could be fixed in a remake as long as tey keep everything the same while just polishing it@@vitorsilva7783
It’s assassins creed black flag not just black flag 😂😂😂😂
