In the books his effects scare Luka resulting in him being 1 terrified of what his mother will do after he just scared a very traumatized young girl who is her daughter, and 2 he's scared Luka will hate/ be afraid of him. Also Luka's trauma causes her to be very quiet, very withdrawn and terrified of everything. A big part of the story after Cayna takes her in is that she tries to help her through her trauma. Even Cayna was human her entire family died infront of her, she barely survived due to them trying to protect her and now she wants to help Luka so she doesn't suffer like she had.

This show still really holds a special place in my heart, of all the seasonal anime I watch there are very few I can remember off the top of my head and this is one of them

Kartatz is reasonable adult that's why he is more favored. Imagine your president starting acting like a dog in public If they were acting normal, I wouldn't think they be receiving punishment like that. But even then cayna told Mai Mai its not like that she doesn't want to spoil them, just the wrong time and place. Tldr: they're almost complete strangers to cayna and are already adults and should act like one at least in public.
