Love this quote and the one he makes earlier in the movie (quoted below in comments by sapphireaudios). Am 25 and yet to have some father-figure resemblance in my life that could inspire me like John Silver does in this film 😊
Ahh, when he says something like "And when the time comes to really see what you're made of, well, I hope I'm there, catchin some of the light comin off you that day." ;-;
It's original because of that. They took a really good base idea, and made it THEIR OWN THING by turning it into space. That takes some amount of creativity to create such a richly unique asthetic that has NEVER BEEN DONE before OR since. Have you seen badass space ships like the ones in this movie? Me neither. Solar surfers don;'t exist anywhere but in this movie. It may use treasure island as a base, but holy shit it made it it's own unique thing. I wish more stuff like this existed.
Remember going to see this when it came out in theaters. Great movie, and every boy should see it. It very inspiring. Did I mention the soundtrack is one of the best ever made for a movie. Only real men tear up at the ending.
As someone who grew up without a dad, this movie taught me a lot. This movie might have flopped when it came out, but now that I am a full grown man I will be forever grateful for the impact it had on me when I watched it as a kid.
Same here dude! I loved this movie as a kid and grew up in a very similar situation as u. Ironically I saw this movie in theaters with my dad before our relationship deteriorated. Makes me think of him sometimes
I could totally relate to Jim's situation because my mother ran away from my dad and I when I was young. the pain of a parent just up and leaving you isn't an easy hole to fill. but there's always other parental figures you can always look up to that you meet in life.
I'm 33. I never saw this movie growing up. I seen it for the first time recently. It brought tears to my eyes. My dad left my mom with 3 kids when I was 4 years old. I was very lucky, I had a great man come into my life and take the time to teach me so much. Dave Allen, I miss you.
My dad loved watching this movie with my sister and I when we were kids and would watch it alone sometimes. He died shortly after from suicide. It took a while to realise he must’ve liked how hopeful the movie is and seen himself in Jim, hoping for his happy ending and guidance. His parents were both abusive lowlifes. This song makes me so emotional sometimes, the few people that know this movie keep its beauty alive. Hope you’re doing great dude
Darth Panzer I was aware that it combined a form of digital artwork, I did notice it and I absolutely adore everything about this movie. From the storytelling to the art delivery... which is why I don't like to read what went wrong cause it's always something stupid like "The story wasn't action packed or constantly dramatic," etc. Hence my wondering if it didn't compare to these CGI of lego men and barbie dolls.
More like deliberately undermarketted so that the traditional animation movie department could get the axe in favour of the full CGI, despite the fact that Treasure Planet was a perfect blend of the two and would have been more spectacular if the renewed 3D revolution hadn''t come 10 years too late.
It's depressing that this film, along with Atlantis, were huge box office bombs. Because these films were amazingly animated, had fantastic characters, grand world building, great musical scores and interesting stories. And the fact that Treasure Planet had a seemingly never ending development cycle and little recognition from the animation industry, that's is just heart breaking.
“You got the makings of greatness in ya, but you gotta stick to it, no matter the squalls! And when the time comes when you get the chance to really test the cut of your sails and show ‘em what you’re made of... well, I hope I’m there, catchin’ some of the light that’ll be comin’ off ya that day.” ~ John Silver
I appreciate the fact that they "disneyfied" this story the right way : emphasizing the relationship between Jim and Long John, making it almost father-to-son. Simple and moving.
I'm 17, and I have to say this is ( I think) the only Disney movie, I actually like to see more than once. It just will always have a special place in my heart ❤️ 💙
It saddens me to no end how the sequel never saw the light of day. Go read up on the plot and look at the concept art. It would have kicked ass from what I can tell.
There is a sort o sequel in form of the video game:treasure planet:battle of prokyon, set 10 years after the events of the movie, where Jim goes from being an ensign to an admiral, the game is actually very very good, look it up if you are interested
I hate how underrated this movie is. It's one of my favorites, and I remember discovering it when I was a teen which is really great but also really sad because I could've loved it longer if I could've discovered it as a child! But thanks Netflix for having it ahh so beautiful
Treasure Planet has been and will always be one of my favorite movies. Too bad... Majority of the kids these days probably don't know about this awesome movie.
Gen z here. I have loved this movie since i was young. It is one of my favorite movies. This movie is one of the main things that inspired me to do art.
My dad would always work my friend and I never saw him growing up. He was always out making that money going out in the gulf of Mexico and fishing for shrimp.
I watched this movie at least 40 times in my childhood. At least once per week, for the longest time. I knew every word at every moment, it was just so amazing. It's so underrated
I rewatched this movie recently since the live action Aladdin movie came out, and I cannot get enough of Treasure Planet! This movie is such a classic, always will be, I’m glad my dad introduced me to it, and I would take it any day over a live action version of an animated classic!
I would love to see a live action version of this one, but I don’t think so. Maybe a 3-D version with the Star Wars theme on it like the frozen animated .
I remember hearing this song a couple times months after it first came out in theaters, once the following summer at Water World in Colorado, and again having dinner at a restaurant maybe in the fall of that year. I wonder how scarce it is that this song is on the radio how. You got me!
My dad passed away last valentines day and sadly when i was teen he couldnt be there for me when i needed him but i know he would have wanted to be and i know where he and my mother are... in my heart and thats why i will always know where i am.
Hopefully there will come a time where the Disney industry will look back on this masterpiece of a movie and see it's true potential for what it still brings to fans and viewers across the world, Treasure Planet is to this day still the most incredible Disney animated film and I still believe that all in due time it will get the attention it deserves and will eventually return.
It's good to see the sun And feel this place This place I never thought would feel like home Now I'm forever far away, and I I always through I'd end up here alone And somehow The world has changed And I've come home To give you back the things they took from you And I feel you now I'm not alone I'll always know where you are And when I see myself I'll always know where you are Where you are And I've found something That was always there Sometimes it's gotta hurt before you feel But now I'm strong And I won't kneel Except to thank who's watching over me (except to thank who's watching over me) And somehow I feel so strong And I've begun To be the one I never thought I'd be And I feel you now I'm not alone I'll always know where you are And when I see myself I'll always…
I adore this film although I think it was released ahead of its time and that's why it didn't do very well but if it was released now it would do really well.
As a kid I doubted myself, I still do, my dad wasn't there for me. So hearing that old cyborg say what he said to Jim, made me feel like I could do anything, even if my own mother doubted I'd ever do anything with my life."Now. You listen to me, James Hawkins, ya got the makings of greatness in ya, but ya gotta take the helm and chart your own course, stick to it! No matter the squalls, and when the time comes to really test the cut of your sails and show what your made of....well, I only hope I'm there, catchin some of the light comin off ya that day." It made me cry as a kid and still makes me cry now as an adult because I realize this is the guy I needed there for me growing up
Whenever I feel lost, forgotten, defeated, unimportant, less, depressed, like I’m not doing well, like I need to be doing more for being 26, like I just don’t amount to much…….this album always brings me back to where I know I need to be….present.
I remember watching this at a friend’s sleepover when I was thirteen. We stayed up until 4am - unrelatedly, I lost consciousness the following night and was admitted to hospital with appendicitis the day after that! - but I had wanted to see the movie for ages and so I remember my experience of seeing it very much so!
such an underrated movie,,, my oldest brother loved it when it released so i began to love it and always had it playing while growing up. its such a huge part of my childhood and its heartbreaking to me that it flopped at release
When disney realized how expensive this movie would become to produce they made it a (marketed) flop almost on purpose so that the audience wouldnt expect such quality again
This movie deserves a lot more credit than Disney wants to give it, probably my second favorite movie ever. Probably just released in the wrong era cause this is a certified masterpiece

I think that’s the only Disney film that has rock music. Treasure Planet was such an underrated movie! I love how it’s a Steampunk take on the classic Treasure Island story.
Ive never seen this movie until today. What a masterwork of art loved all of it! Im 32 years old btw and now im sad that it tooked me so long before i watched this movie🤷♂️👌
This song is fucking awesome. The adventurous happy atmosphere, badass guitars, and the slick as fuck vocals. But what makes this song really exciting (in a musical aspect) is the drums. I mean holy shit them fills and feels.
We all do, but sadly they didn't add it in there. People have made great concept art for that too and it makes me sad that it wasnt in there because it was a great movie and came out the same year as the first Kingdom Hearts game. I guess that movie was just ahead of it's time.
Wow this comment is gold! This should have been on it instead of just all Jack the Sparrow! It makes sense since they travel in space like dimensions and what a great way to add some new fans to this under rated film.
it ended up failing not because of the plot or whatnot buy it was released at the same time as Harry Potter, and as you know (or don't) it was a huge hit that many overlooked this movie. it was simply a matter of timing.
Idk about a reboot but I feel like they should just randomly start playing this exact movie again in theaters, maybe like how they play Grease in theaters even though it's super old?
I never get tired rewatching this classic. It is the first to ever take on such a feat to creature an animated film containing so many art styles, with smooth animation and art design. Coupled that with a great soundtrack that hits home and a storyline that is a little "boyish" and innocent in nature, and make it feel like a one of a kind adventure. I mean this is an example of "they really don't make em like they used to" type of deal. How can no one like this movie is beyond me. Space pirates, treasure hunting, daring adventure, rebel lost kid finds purpose and changes his life around with a fatherly figured scallywag cyborg?
I mean this one and How to Train your dragon. but this one hits just as deep.

Do you know the problem with this film? It's simple. It was premiered under the shadow of Shrek and the rise of the CGI animation. In early 2000 nothing could compete with the computer animation, but Treasure Planet has one of the most impressive soundtracks I ever heard, and an animation that even today is amazing. The relationship between Jimmy and Silver is so fantastic, and somehow, make you feel better. I don't know, it's just an underrated film that REALLY deserves a second chance! Give yourself a chance to understand the importance and the impressive message this movie contains about life, maturing, and grow up!
Whenever I'm missing my parents I give this movie a watch. Gives me memories of me bouncing around while my parents danced to this song. Also I always wind up calling them after watching this.
I’m actually really glad they never made the 2nd movie. Because this story had an end and tbh it couldnt have been better it was wonderful and I love this movie so so so soooo much
Such a great memory for seeing in theater back in 2002 with my mom and my younger brother. I really miss Disney doing the 2-D/Hand drawing animated styles. However, I really want to be a movie director for my dream job in the future and I really want to bringing the 2-D/Hand Drawing animation styles once again on the big screen for future Disney movies.
Graymin Agreed, if anything I’d be open for a full CG proper Sequel. Cause unfortunately according to Disney 2D Animation is “dead” I disagree but it is what it is.
No matter how long it has been, if anyone have been an impact to me during my lifetime....When I feel the sun or see myself I'LL ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOU!!!
I remember seeing this in theaters as a kid. Ironically I saw it with my dad who left me at a young age and sadly our relationship has deteriorated throughout the years. This song really makes me think of him sometimes

Money might make the world go round, but original ideas make it jump up and down. Treasure planet will always be the quality classic.
I wouldn't say this is original
It's original because of that.
They took a really good base idea, and made it THEIR OWN THING by turning it into space. That takes some amount of creativity to create such a richly unique asthetic that has NEVER BEEN DONE before OR since.

This movie is what practically bankrupted Disney's animation studio, which I find really sad because this has always been one of my favorites.
I watched it with my dad when i was little and it kinda made me feel good for having a father ya know?
Glad it got them bankrupt, then they couldn't make a number two
Mainly because of the CGI stuff taking over, huh?
It's always such a pity to hear it go bankrupt cause I absolutely love this movie.
YourDarkAccomplice Actually it's one of the most ambitious Disney movies, it combined 3 total art styles, i guess if you google it you will find out.

@@shanerose7204 Absolutely.
These two and black cauldron behold be the films getting live action remakes. The ones that didn't quite work but still have great value.
Except the robot. I hated and still hate the robot. They could have left him out for a perfect film. Now it's "only" a 9.5/10
It's official, Disney hates sci-fi films. They made a sci-fi film called Strange World in 2022 and that was a massive flop as well.

Yet you can't help but wonder why such a good movie never had a sequel.
It's a tragically tragic one of the great movies Disney has done .
Idk how I just saw a video on TH-cam titled "treasure planet - Disney's worst mistake"...this was no doubt one of the best Disney solo movies ever
This Is The Best Movie I Have Ever Watched My Entire Life It Goes So Deep I Cry Everytime ;(
Oook.
I mean, I’m sure it being released against Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets wasn’t the best either.
I bought my other half all the Disney stuff on dvd and I'd never seen this and was blown away.
I was genuinely shocked this tanked at the box office.
Whenever I'm missing my parents I give this movie a watch. Gives me memories of me bouncing around while my parents danced to this song. Also I always wind up calling them after watching this.
That's heartwarming
I like this song and the movie as well since I was younger. I remember seen Treasure Planet in theater back in the year of 2002.
Watched this movie for the first time last night. Incredible. I can't believe I missed this as a kid!
The music and the story and EVERYTHING about this movie was spectacular. I’ve had friends watch it now and love it.
Thanks john reziznik for a perfect song to remind me of my childhood
When I hear this song, I feel like a child once again
same here
"You got the makings of greatness in ya"
I couldn’t count how many times I watched this movie and I always love it. ❤️
Ever since Spotify removed this I feel empty inside 😔

Spotify removed this song for whatever reason. Thanks for having it on here.
the most underrated animation movie.what a sad
This song makes me cry! So wonderful
For some reason this cannot be listened on Spotify 😭 this is really good
I can’t believe this movie is underrated ! There is absolutely nothing like it ! So original !
I'm hoping Treasure Planet makes its way to Kingdom Hearts in the future. This would be a fantastic world to visit.
Imagine this movie getting a live action using today's CGI tech. It will be visually appealing to see.
Graymin Agreed, if anything I’d be open for a full CG proper Sequel. Cause unfortunately according to Disney 2D Animation is “dead” I disagree but it is what it is.
Hell no
Oh god no
No, live action remakes are terrible. But yet I kinda want one of this
Just imagining realistic Amelia and Delbert scares me
Watching the movie as a kid, this and I'm Still Here brought me to tears. Love this movie.
This is one masterpiece that didn’t deserve to flop but at least it’s getting the proper recognition it deserves
This movie has everything : adventure, inspiration, great tropes and characters... 👏👏👏👏

No matter how long it has been, if anyone have been an impact to me during my lifetime....When I feel the sun or see myself I'LL ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOU!!!
Treasure Planet was a bomb movie. Always will be!
That Silver 'wink'! The last feels/goosebumps of the film right as the credits start! Such a great ending :D

I remember seeing this in theaters as a kid. Ironically I saw it with my dad who left me at a young age and sadly our relationship has deteriorated throughout the years. This song really makes me think of him sometimes
