How To Warm Up Intelligently (THE RIGHT WAY)

  • I get this question all the time. How should I warm up. Well today I am going to tell you the two ways I love to do just that. The first way to warm up that I go over is great if you are in a rush or just don't want to mess around with set after set. Let me tell you this way will get the blood flowing very fast. Just remember to squeeze the muscle with each rep. The second way is ore traditional but it will save you for your work sets. The big mistake a lot of people make is they just do to much when warming up and when they are ready for the big sets they just don't have anything left in the tank.
    Give this a try and let me know how it helped. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe and hit the bell notification.

      mountaindog1 great video but for me is very hard to get even 15+15 rep with light weight when I’m cold. Being on gear I start feeling the muscle/pump really from set 3 and then I can just do whatever I want. It’s just the first 2 sets when my strength is like at 20%

      What you think of 1_3 reps on say 1 plate each side. Then 2 plates each side. Then 3 then 4 each 1_3 reps. Then say 5 plates a side go for reps say 5 sets 5 reps or 4 sets 8 reps.

    I walk briskly on the treadmill, lightly stretch the target area (glutes/hams/quads) for example. And then when I lift, first set 15/20 reps of a light weight. Then sets of 2/3 as I go up in weight

I have learned a lot in life about how to accelerate or speed up the learning curve by acknowledging my need to put in the hard work but also listening to and applying the techniques and advice from the people that are successful in the area of said subjects we are looking to better ourselves in. Nothing in life comes easy and nothing trumps time put in for personal experience but the wise man can recognize and learn from the experts that have paved the way before him. I fully appreciate you and all the thought and follow through you put together for us. You are absolutely top notch. Just some feedback to let you know I am picking up what you are laying down. Once again I can only agree with you. I hate warm up and cheat some 😂 but not so much that I’ll get lactic acid. I do 3 sets exactly as you describe with high reps first and lower reps as I put more weight on. Only when I’m at my “real” weight I go flat out and to failure.
    After first exercise I do only one warm up set to get the feeling and get some blood to that particular area.

    What's your opinion on the impact that reducing warm up reps via these techniques could have on total weekly volume when it comes to barbell movements? Most of the tonnage I move end up being during my warm up sets (which are quite lengthy because of the ramping up that you've mentioned) so I am curious to hear your opinion on this. Besides that I totally agree on the idea that the number of reps need to be tempered down as you go up in weight, I usually start with 10s and go as low as 4s or 3s.

    So pre-squat I was following your advice of doing leg curls first. REALLY made a difference. Then I was kind of doing what you're calling your quick warmup but as a superset, Leg curl and leg extension, with just enough rest to change plates and machines. But same kinda thing, kept dropping the pin down the stacks. Kept dropping reps until i got a solid triple on either machine. Preface that with 3-5 mins of stair stepper and my squat skyrocketed.

    Im 50 and have 2 different warmup routines before i go to the weights. Wen i start with my weight i always do 2 set of light weight with first exercise i do before i start with my working-sets. For upper that would be 2 sets bench press or 2 sets incline dumb press. For lower that would be 2 sets front squats or 2 sets goblet squats.. After that it just depends how i feel. Sometimes i just do a light set before to see how im feeling or checking my form before i do my working sets. That's how i started as a beginner last year and so far no injuries.

    I normally do. Light weight 20 reps really squeeze and feel muscles. Bit heavier then 15 reps bit heavier. Then 12 reps warm up then work sets still going up in weigh. Not say 3 sets of 12 reps but say heavier 10 reps heavier 8 reps heavier if can't get 8 get 6 do 1 more set of 6. Example 1_3 warm ups increase weight 20 reos15 reps 12 reps. Work sets 4 sets. 1 set 10 1 set 8 2 sets 6

  • @sheldonfreeman1602
    @sheldonfreeman1602 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but the purpose of warm up sets is to get the feel of the movement down before you go all-out in your working sets.
    love your videos, I walk away a smarter and better lifter

    I've never been much of general heating and specific heating ... I know it's not the right thing to do....but I'm a big fan of your method of ´´workin up`` multiple sets 3 to 5 reps... up weight to the top set... example hack squats... 1 plate per side... 3 to 5 reps.. 2 plates...again.. 3 plates again.... 4 plates probably top set for my...6 to 8 reps....

    If your doing a push, pull, leg routine how do you suggest warming up for example when on a push day? Would you do a chest machine followed by a shoulder machine or would it warm up the chest and by the time shoulders are incorporated you should already be warm thus just feel the movement vs full warmup. Thanks
