Hi, I went fishing with Davy Agnew as he was a family member to me. My Grandfather Peter Murdoch went fishing with him often and when I was on holiday at my Grandfathers he took me fishing on Loch Ryan on this very boat. I am not sure of the relationship between my Grandfather and Davy Agnew but my mums full name was Mary Agnew Murdoch. Thanks for posting this... it really means a lot to me !!
This is how I remember the loch when I was wee, the man in the black jacket reminds me of my grand dad, even my mum thought it was her dad for a moment, will maybe try taking my boat down this year, have they launched from lady bay?
Those were the day's fish for everybody. If we get our fishing waters back & just look after the people in this country & don't export to much we could be back to this in 10 years
I’m from Stranraer and as a boy in the early 70s had summer jobs on Bill Simpsons fishing boat ( ex lifeboat) , catching bait for the Tope fisherman and general keeping the boat clean and taking the helm. Great days for a wee lad, fishing today out of Lady Bay later for sea bass I hope.
Love the old British Seagull outboard motors in the video, we used to run Seagulls on our boats back in the late 60s early 70s. Nice cod fish, still a dcent fishery there? Thank you for sharing.
Who was fishing in the video? I went once or twice in a very similar boat with my late uncle Sandy who lived in kirkcom and Bobby Rankin a local farmer about the same time. We used to catch haddock and codling mostly.
top video,3 of us used to try and get up there at least once a month for the weekend and stay in Bobby's house in Kirkholm, and do the pub crawl between the 2 pubs and get shown how to play dominoe's with the double 6 doe's used to cost a fortune for the regulars pints but worth every penny for the hospitality. :)

Sadly the fishery is a shadow of its former glory
