The buttons on the transport are actually correct. They're facing that way bc of how the tape is inserted. On decks like this where the cassette goes upside down the transport actually moves in the direction the buttons are pointed.
@todderbert for most decks on older stereos that had the heads towards the bottom of the deck it would be, but for decks with the heads towards the top like this that's actually correct. Hit play and look through the window and you'll see the tape actually moves in that direction.
This might actually work out for me. Then I can move formats back and forth. And saving audio files would be so much easier. Does it have an input jack to record from an auxiliary source like a shortwave radio?
Hej Todderbert, thanks for the review. The Retekess TR-641 looks cool, but I absolutely agree; there is room for improvement in this Retekess radio. It is a bit disappointing that recording from the radio is not possible, as you also mentioned. I also like Retekess radios and own many that I like, including the Retekess TR-613, which has an incredibly nice speaker sound. But personally, I am skipping the Retekess TR-614 as it is right now. I am really enjoying my new Shiuadon R-108 upgraded USB-C version that has just arrived. Take care, Todderbert, and have a nice weekend.
Hej, absolutely! I have looked a bit at the Retekess TR-640 internet radio; it seems interesting. I myself have an old Sangean WFR-29C internet radio, and it still works very well. But I also looked at newer Sangean internet radios and other internet radio brands. Take care and have a lovely weekend.
I do have a bunch of tapes I’d like to “upgrade” to MP3. But then, if I had TF cards that were 30 years old, like the tapes, they might not be readable at all. So maybe tape isn’t a downgrade from TF…
@@todderbert Yeah, A digital copy without a backup is a fragile thing. Digital requires maintenance and migration to stick around, though. Not that tapes never degrade, or film, but go back 30 years and I have floppy disks it'd be a challenge to read. The MiniDiscs rely on vintage equipment, if they even still work, and I have MP3 CDs from 25 years ago that are flaky. IMHO, the real advantage of digital is how easy it is to randomly play anything in the collection. Searchable random-access. And to make copies, of course.

The reason the buttons for the cassette are backwards is because of the direction the cassette plays in. I’ve had cassette players like that before.

I think in Reverse :)

Just the microphone. No input.
Review of Sansui F51 please ? With chinese buttons and English menu. Shortwave, FM and AM bands too. Comes with BT receiver
Regarding MP3 players, is there a radio that plays MP3s with which you can view files and select folders to play music?

Todderbert, you're old enough to have made mixed tapes in the 80s? Wouldn't have guessed that!
Yes, I was driving as well :)
@todderbert wow!!
Todderbert, you skipped on number :) Retekess TR 640 - RETEKESS internet radio - I am eagerly awaiting that review?
Possibly in the future, will need to check that one out.

Digital copies is a good thing. I want to store my audio collection to my NAS, and have it backed up as well.

Can ya DX with this radio 📻? The blue backlight eases use in a dark room 🤔, or outside at night 🌙. Best of 2025!! Your friend, Jeff.
Probably during the evening on MW.
Cassette in 2025? hahaha…
More popular than you think. Eight track is coming back as well :)
