    Have done three Simpson crossings in my Patrol, never had an issue of any kind. Preparation is the key. And unlike the dramatic beat-up in the video, the three "stranded" guys would never starve because 20 vehicles a day pass through.

      I thought so, especially after stating what MAN stood for. Well, us Aussies nickname things or shorten words, and obviously, we call those M. A. N. vehicles just plainly, Man. With no imagination or unique word for it. I used to drive M. A. N. Buses, we called them just Man, too. The problem is if you write something on the vehicle like MAN, and that's what it's going to be called. Like most vehicles out there, we either say the model or make or a type. the only time to say the whole lot is if it's your pride and joy or you are reporting an accident or car enthusiast. He might have other vehicles and calls this "The Man" to identify it to others. Don't take an offence towards us, Aussies, who call your vehicles or anything else a different word or use your shortened version the wrong way. I hope I explained it okay.

    Fantastic Barnsey! I conquered Big Red in the early 90's(after 4 attempts!) Spent 6 great days in Birdsville and stuffed a back axle about 15k's past the racetrack heading out! Roadtrain to Toowoomba after that!

    It is not necessary to climb Big Red as there is a bypass track. This video is just a sensationalised beat up.

    Anyone notice the front wheels on the Landy while being loaded on flat bed the front wheels sure seemed to spin forward in a way to indicate that it was engaged and not broken as the story line indicated.

      Rear tail shaft is broken but being a landrover it would be the rear axel spline broken

    • @einfelder8262
      @einfelder8262 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Seems you are unaware that rear axles can also break. Given the Landrover had excessive weight over the rear there's a good chance they only had front drive.

    Deflating the tyres DECREASES the chance of a puncture not increases it. He didn't deflate on his first attempt up the easy side of big red because he was told not to. Absolutely no way an experienced off roader, especially a recovery expert like Barnsey sets off without deflating first. He's been doing this for far too long to make dumb mistakes like that.

    • @einfelder8262
      @einfelder8262 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not true on 100 ply truck tyres...... But I also doubt that the tyres ever get inflated since this is a pure Simpson recovery vehicle. You know he doesn't have tyre problems because he only carries one spare.

    Barnesy is an absolute hero.
    But heroism has its price and he won't even start the truck until $6k has been transferred into his account.
    If your car is worth less than that, it's cheaper to leave it and hitch a ride out with one of the many cars that cross the Simo daily.
