This was the first version of R-Type I played and was hooked immediately on it. A fantastic colourful version and I vivdly remember the countdown timer on the loading screen. 3 minuts to go till I play R-Type, was always worth the wait! Great content as always Jamie.
that looks stunning. I have got used to the conveneince of emulators but this is making me look at the next and the new spectrum coming out. Nostalgia overload. built in "kempston" interface, spectrum + keys and a hdmi port. this is what 80s dreams looked like
@done5819 Thanks for your comment. I will be doing an Unboxing for 'The Spectrum' in the future. I did wonder if we'd get a Spectrum Mini a while ago, but should be interesting to see what it's capable of. A Master System Mini I'd also like to see. In terms of the Game, yeah it's great. Love it's bright colours and it's overall challenge.
So fascinating to see so much of R-Type on the ZX - Spectrum, it really looked different but at the same time you could clearly see it was R-Type. And of course being a master of shoot em up you progressed very quickly, you will complete it in no time 🎉 👌 Thank you for sharing this Jamie!

@gumdeo It's really nice and more enjoyable with the added Music. I'm not far away from the end, but it's got it's challenging times. Level 5 was a surprisingly thing with the deaths from touching the Foreground.
Oh the hours I "wasted" playing Speccy R-Type back in the day, owned the original tho' it was very late in my Speccy gaming days as I was on the verge of being seduced by the 500 and had just started working... would like to see Karnov on my screen one day too.
@saintuk70 Cheers Saint for your comment. I cannot remember if my School Friend had this Game on his Spectrum. Only one of my friends owned one, but it's a nice change from time to time to fire it up. Karnov I've heard of, but not sure if I've played it before.
Atari ST had a similar sound chips to the Spectrum 128K and onward (Spectrum 48K didn't really have a sound chip) As for it running faster, on the Spectrum sound required extensive interrupts for music and SFX and the more complex the more interrupts. The 128K having a real sound chip some of that was alleviated so it's probably that, or the emulation is off lol.
With the new Spectrum coming out in november for £89 in which i have pre ordered two of them . The Spectrum Next price as dropped like a bomb. You can pick them up really cheap. The Spectrum Next been kicked of its thrown .
Spectrum Next second hand pricing is or was out of hand. It was never worth the prices people were trying to flip them for, BUT It is a different beast to the The Spectrum. I'll stick with my Nexts. Not sure the Nexts are "really cheap" and I don't ever expect them to be. The Spectrum you've ordered is firmly in the really cheap bracket. Hope you enjoy it, Spectrums are there to be played and enjoyed, in whatever form you prefer.
the sounds of the games on the spectrum, as awful as they are, bring bacl memories of the commodore 64 games I played in the late 80's. good time nevertheless. lol
@@MorganJustGames oh wow, there was Rambo, Wizball, Bionic Commando, Commando, Midnight Resistance. Some space games. buggy boy, Rick Dangerous. Loads more, but I can't remember the names of the rest.

@MorganJustGames my top 5 would be for nostalgia and they are The Great Escape, R-Type, Commando, Target Renegade, Wizball
The Spectrum wasn't built for these sort of games, but for the system, this is pretty good.
I was consistently impressed with what was possible on the Spectrum with such "modest" hardware. Some of the 3D games were incredible for the system.
