The deal about T1 energy converters vs. T2 is more a matter of footprint, same as wind generators vs. fusions. It may be more efficient to use winds, but the amount of space it takes to do that quickly becomes untenable. 10 T1 converters only cost a pittance more in energy than a single T2, BUT, they need a lot more of your precious space.
indeed, that is correct. Also its not just the converters that take up more space. but the mass wind or solar you need takes up huge space. Its ok to build a couple if you excess E from a geo or something. But they should not be relied on.
So what I'm reading here, is building 2 - 4 t1 converters(70 to 280 energy overflow could help with stabilizing a metal hungry build order/ energy overflow when playing solo but should not be the plan for metal long term. As it takes too much space and can't be built in a safe place.
@@midweekcentaur1050 That's pretty decent, yeah. You shouldn't need too many T1 converters. They're good for dealing with energy excess, certainly, but you do want _some_ energy surplus to push into units, use your Commander's D-Gun, and keep you afloat during supply shortfalls. Around 4 is a good metric.
Great tutorial overall, but I do feel that it could go a bit more in depth on T1 metal makers. I find that just saying, it's a bad ratio doesn't necessarily mean a lot to people. Plus I think many might look at it as, it's "only" 10 more energy per metal produced over the T2 so it doesn't really seem that bad. I've yet to see anyone really go in depth on this subject and tend to give a quick, it's bad so don't build it without breaking it down much at all.
Hi B33b3, Im afraid that I had to cut down that part of the guide abit, as you can see its already quite a long video and so the more in depth was taken out in order to get as much basic info in as possible. Its quite a long topic to explain as-well. You need 1 adv solar to provide enough E to cover the need of 1 T1 metal maker that then gens 1 metal. That means that it takes 371 seconds to pay itself back (6 mins) after that it then starts to actually make more than it cost. Now if you did this with normal solars thats 4 solars. They cost 155 M each, Meaning a total of 620 M. Thus 620 seconds for payoff (10 mins) As opposed to t2 Advanced fusion makes 3k E and can support 5 t2 makes. that equals 50m/s 232 seconds to pay off (3.8 mins). I hope this helps explain it all, The time to pay off on t1 is so long that it basicly is a waste. Also think as you are investing all this M you are not using it for units or expanding to more of the map.
@@Requiem_tv As a newer player, I was looking at those T1 converters as a patch job to gain at least some value when I overbuild on energy and don't have enough metal production to consume it all (like starting next to a place where I can build a geothermal plant, which means I won't have to worry about energy production for a while in the game).

Hi there! Awesome tutorial. One question I have, when describing the part about wind energy and how much wind a map has, what is an ideal upper/lower to determine whether you should go wind over solar? Or do you always go 2 wind at the start?
6-7 wind is the min you should ever choose wind on, but the maps wind varies and as such you need to see how it behaves when playing to know what you need. IE, if the map has a 1-15 wind score, the avg will probably be around 9. Which is good, however if in the first few mins when building win is at 2 then you would build solars. then move to wind a little later after the factory for example
