Last winter, I ordered from Meyer and was pleased with the chicks and S&H was a deal if you get 15 after the winter season (March). Meyer allows you to choose any variety as other hatcheries may have a min of any type of 3-5, normally I get 2 of each. Working toward hatching a flock of White Plymouth Rock like grandma had when I was a small boy.. I got CornishX in June from TSC and grew out the Ross-308 to butcher weight.. TSC has a great price but most people really do not want all 10 the same and I'm not impressed with to package deals as its too random, you get whatever they send you as its discounted for the mass retailer.. Not planning to buy chicks until my freezer gets low, Reichs Poultry Farm in PA is my go-To for Freedom Ranger, very good quality chickens.
Thanks! I have a video that is scheduled for tomorrow about my order process thru tractor supply and which birds I picked feel free to give it a watch!
Rural King is the best place to pick up chicks. Always have a good variety, you can look them over to make sure they are healthy. And are reasonably priced. Many local feed mills will have them also. Tractor supply will have them on hand also. If they have too many lots of time they will make you a deal.
I order from Meyer hatchery and I don't live that far, I take a few hours out of my day and go pick them up. It's less stressful on them and I know they are not getting tossed around
It looked like you live in Grand Junction? Have you checked out Whiting Farms Hatchery? You can get Hens already laying for $10-$15. You do have to go pick them up in Delta, but they also have runs to various places if enough hens are ordered. Also, people might like to know that the hatcheries you mentioned usually throw in extra chicks when shipping. Thanks for the Tractor supply tip!
I know Murray mcmurray throws in a free chick- is that what you’re referring to or is that common practice with most hatcheries? I’m very interested in that
I have used Cackle and mcmurray for over 20 years . They are both about the same quality , but read reviews . mcmurrey has a couple breeds that are pretty low quality . I have not vaccinated from either hatchery for the over 20 years of using them and no issues . I got my order off 200 chicks from cackle hatchery in my cart . About another 150 of chicks and muscovies ready in their cart . I need to make sure I get my new 84’x 40’ chicken coop finished before I order . The 30’x40’ chicken coop finally got to small for the business I do.
Absolutely, this is something that’s important to the conversation as well- TS offers the best deal for 10 or under chicks in terms of price but they don’t offer vaccinations. I vaccinate mine at home but I would expect most people wouldn’t do this or it wouldn’t be cost effective for them to do this.
Thanks you for That Video. I try to Find a Video like 👍 your. Purchase Baby Cks Online and I don't found until now. Thank you. I have 9 Big Girls but need to Buy 10 More. If you order from TS Can you pick up add the Store my online order in step of USPS?... G
Hey there, online the only option is to ship to your usps. In the spring, you can buy chicks from tractor supply in person but you can’t order chicks to Tractor Supply (that I’m aware of).
Hoover is the worst I have ordered from. Lowest survival and low grown weight. 20 RIRs from Hoover 60 from a local. Didn't loss a single one from local. Hoover only 2 made a month old. If they was alone maybe I did something but 80 in same pen same feed same age to within 2 days
Fair enough, I’ve always had a positive experience with Hoovers but appreciate you sharing your experience and adding it to the story! It’s good to hear from both sides- local options can be great!
We have had good service from Ideal in Cameron TX.
I totally forgot about Ideal- it’s been about 15 years since I’ve ordered from them!
I got 5 silver laced Wyandottes from Southern States and they’re doing great! They were on sale minus 15% of the price so $4.35 each.
I’m not sure I’ve heard of that but I will have to check out Southern States!
You forgot to mention the Min $50 shipping.

Yeah man I love Meyer Hatchery. If TSC offered to let you pick 10 varieties I think the package would be much better!
I ordered from Mt Healthy 25 birds. Shipping middle of march. Im pretty excited. It's been a decade since l had birds. Thanks for the video.
Absolutely man, it’s a great hobby!!
Good review 😊
Thanks! I have a video that is scheduled for tomorrow about my order process thru tractor supply and which birds I picked feel free to give it a watch!
Murray McMurray Hatchery is another great option!
Love them too! They have a great selection!
Great review can’t wait to see the chickens you get! Just got a new sub
Thank you! I’m super excited about the chicks as well!

I miss rural king back when I lived in the Midwest. I’m in CO now and only have Tractor Supply and I’ll definitely be stopping in for chick days!

I wish I could do the same! So much easier on the birds
Our tractor supply gets theirs from hoover hatchery. Im not sure if tractor supplies are all the same
Yeah as far as I know all TSC get them from Hoovers. When you order through TSC online Hoovers hatchery is the one who mails them directly to you

Yeah up valley 50 miles or so east of junction! I had no idea that place existed and I’m going to have to try it out!

@@HomesteadingWithTony I know Cackle will throw in 1 or 2 extra chicks with each shipment.

Do you sell eggs or baby chicks?
4:41 surcharge for under 15 chicks? I would add 5 more instead of paying that fee.
100%- in my situation ordering 10 is already more than I need but if I had more land and space I’d be ordering any amount to avoid a surcharge!
I’ll stick with McMurray. In business a very long time . Good reputation.
I agree they have a fantastic reputation
They have some very week breeds . Cackle is the same or better quality for a better price . I have used both for over 20 years .
@ Really, ok, I’ll keep that in mind
Road island red
One of the best
Is the best for me I also like black copper marans
Cackle I’ve ordered from for years. Great chicks low death rate or none at all
Cackle is a great company, I used to use them to order game birds!
Tractor supply it is
Same here!!
check out Jenk's Hatchery in Oregon
I will check them out I’ve never heard of them before, thanks!
OR ping tons, not Op ring tons. Sorry im a nerd.
Haha I’m recovering from influenza you should have heard my trying to pronounce “comet” with a stuffed nose 😭😭😂

Cackle
I’ve purchased great quality poultry from cackle
Make sure your chicks are vaccinated for Mareks. I learned an expensive lesson. Tractor Supply does not vaccinate.

are there any other chicken farmers going "it's pronounced Buff Orph ing ton!" not "Off her tin!"?
Probably

Tractor supply will not allow you to grow your flock because ALL their offspring are ROOSTERS. Never once got a hen.
I’ve never had an issue with them before- they order from Hoovers. That’s too bad you had that experience
Tractor Supply is the Walmart of farm supplies.
