    I read a Louise L’Amour 2 or 3 times a year and I love them!
Not only are the characters great but I like how L’Amour really paints the image of the terrain, the wind and heat or cold. I also enjoy stories with horses and how important they were.
These stories are kind of like a fantasy of a different world yet something that existed and I find that fun and interesting.

I can definitely agree that he writes a vivid picture of a magical time that took place; a time which contrasts today to a point you feel sucked into reading more. Have a great Friday!

Did you recognize Jack Schaefer or Edward Abbey? Don’t know anything about them but thought it was cool they were also mentioned as early Western writer pioneers so to speak. I love the research I do on this video series, such great nuggets of info you uncover on authors. Hope you are well Thomas!

For the last 50 years I have read Every Louis L'amour Western. And for around 40 plus years L.L. was my favorite Author. But sadly that isn't the case anymore. I still enjoy rereading his Westerns but I do not have a favorite Author anymore. As some social media options give for a description I will just say that "It's Complicated" . However I am very pleased that LL is gaining popularity from people such as yourself that read LL and are spreading the word. Thank you -James

Thanks for the video Kevin! I just finished Flint and loved it. I have more L'amour novels on deck. I also just finished Betty Zane by Zane Grey. that was a 5 star read as well. It's great to get into frontier/western novels.

Kevin, great vid. Like you, I’ve only read a handful of Lamours novels. Some better than others of course. Flint, The Californios, and Fallon are some of my faves so far. Not too many newer writers can do decent westerns but The Widowmaker series has been exceptional (Brett Cogburn). This series just keeps getting startingly better with each outing. Now, off to read my next Lamour (Hanging Woman Creek). Have a wonderful day!

I've read only two Louis L'Amour novels so far - both for the June on the Range event. I look forward to reading more. Thanks for telling us so much about him and his writing life.

Great video. I love Louis Lamour books. He probably did need a good editor on some of them, as I have noticed some loose ends (would not go as far to say plot holes). I read once that he refused editing (may not be true as publisher may have insisted). Also, his short stories are normally tight and fantastic. His autobiography slash advice book “Education of a Wandering Man” is one of my favorite books.

Wow, I am not a fan of autobiographies, but I may make an exception for Louis. Glad you enjoyed the video. I have some short stories and look forward to getting to them on my Saturday Shorts series very soon!

I always say, L'Amour is the most underrated American writer. Like a lot of people, I'd see all those little paperbacks, and roll my eyes. No interest. But while not every story is amazing, he's no hack. Great adventure stories about the Old West, and American history. His work should be treasured.

It’s low commitment to give him a shot. Most books are 150 pages - 200 pages. I find them as great palate cleansers!
