Thanks for sharing. A lot of the information helped me in my starter change out. However, I was not so willing to do the extra work of removing the cooling fans, so here is what I did, and I hope it helps someone. I found that my standard length 15mm combination wrench would just barely clear the fan motor allowing for just enough swing to grab the next nut flat on the upper bolt. However, there was not enough room to use a second box end wrench for a cheater since the bolt was very tight. So I placed the box end on the nut at the highest position, then took a 5' water key and placed the saddle over the open end of the combo wrench. Pushing straight down on the key gave me enough force to move the bolt. If you don't have a water key, try any long rod or similar device that can be positioned over the wrench without sliding off. Once that hurdle was cleared, the rest of the job went pretty well.
Thanks, man. Looks like i'm going to have to tackle this project in my very near future. But first, I need to get it towed from the parking garage ready downtown. Even though you hit some snags, you and the added comments give me hope of an easy fix. Thanks!
The top bolt is a deep socket 13 mm and I needed to use an extension .it was tuff to get it out.the bottom bolt or bolts are 15 mm regular socket. My starter on my 2005 doge caravan sxt was only held by two bolts. Thanks for this helpful video. My van would start then it wouldn't start and finally I would try it again then all I heard was a click when I turned on the ignition. I took the battery to be tested and it was at 85%.So then I knew it was time to replace the original starter.
You dont need to remove the fans, just use a socket and a 5" extension for the top bolt. See other videos here. Also when it clicks all it needs is a set of solenoid terminals for $9 on Ebay. Put the old one back in.
Can you give me some info from your experience?? i went under my 2006 and i can't tell how many bolts used to install starter i saw one bolt on the drivers side towards the top that holds ground wire in place and secures starter. I saw a second bolt drivers side bit lower that holds the starter in place I saw what i believe is a third bolt that appears on the drivers side oil filter side. I can't tell for sure. Is that a bolt, therefore making 3 bolts?? If that is the case with the 3rd bolt doesn't look like enough room in there. I only saw you remove 2 bolts.
I have a 1998 dodge caravan and I found it a lot easier to just remove the frpont engine mount. After you jack engine up enough to take the weight off the front mount you can easily take off mount giving you access to everything youy need to get to. removing the fans you run the risk of medding up the wiring or hitting the radiator causing a leak.JUST REMOVE THE FRONT MOUNT AND MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER.STARTER COMES OUT THE BOTTOM AND FALLS IN YOUR HANDS.
Very nice video. I'm curious. What was the starter doing, or NOT doing that lead you to replace it? You said that rapping on the starter didn't help. Thanks
The issue started with the starter not cranking when the van was warmed up. No click, no nothing. If you let it sit for 15-20 minutes it would start. Then one night it sat and still wouldn't start once cold. $82 starter and about 1.5 hours of my time because I didn't have the right tools - and it's fixed. :)
Leo Wells sounds like my starter problem. I can hear the fuel pump but nothing beyond that. clearly the motor isn't turning over. Thanks for your quick reply.

hello I need to change the starter on my wife's 2013 town and country I've looked all over the internet and there no video on how to do it for that year ., all other video is from 2005 to 2011
Your video was okay until you said to remove parts. I didn't have a 3/8 swivel so I went and bought one to take the top bolt out. No parts came off the van except for the starter. Your best to was the 13mm holding the ground wrote in place! Got'er done in record time. Thanks for the tip!

You are very nice to show record this process to help others, thank you, it is very helpful.
Thank you for the kind comment!

Thanks! Super helpful - definitely pull out the fan it is easy and makes everything else so much easier...
Very helpful. Thanks for posting. I end up using a swivel and a swivel ratchet and didn't have to take out the fans.
People..the first thing is disconnecting the battery..please!! Good video overall!👍
I was going to comment that as well. Glad I wasn't the only one that thought that.

appreciate running the camera while doing the work. thanks
Thank you for your time buddy. It'll help
Little black connection end piece did your starter come with one or did you have to take off the old one?

Bro had you use 4 or 3 in extension with you deep socket 13 then 15 you wouldn't had to do extra like remove fan
Thanks for Posting ,,
And sharing the tips .
Doing mine this weekend .
Did you have to shim the starter?
That is why God made wobbly universal extentions
Im sure that trying to record while you do the job doesn't help, but good video and was informative. God bless
I have oil dripping from my starter wires in my 05 Caravan??

Good luck changing it out. Hopefully this video helped you feel confident in doing it yourself. I hear mechanics like to charge a lot for this job.
