- Dancers of the Little Angels perform Buchaechum, a traditional Korean fan dance in Delhi.
Organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) , famous children folk ballet troupe 'Little Angels' from the Republic of Korea performing in Delhi to express their gratitude to Indian war veterans and their families for providing medical assistance during the Korean War.
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), is an autonomous organisation of the Government of India, involved in India's external cultural relations, through cultural exchange with other countries and their peoples. It was founded on 9 April 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of independent India.
The Little Angels Children's Folk Ballet of Korea is a dance troupe founded in 1962 by Sun Myung Moon, the founder of the Unification Church, to project a positive image of South Korea to the world. In 1973 they performed at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The group's dances are based on Korean legends and regional dances, and its costumes on traditional Korean styles. Choral singing by the troupe in many languages is also featured.
In 2010 the Little Angels traveled to the United States to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Korean War. This was sponsored by the Korean War 60th Anniversary Memorial Committee, whose chairman, Bo Hi Pak, is the president of the Little Angels. Later that year they traveled to the other 15 nations that had sent troops to support South Korea in the United Nations force.
The Little Angels are supported financially by the Tongil Group, a South Korean business group associated with the Unification Church, through the Tongil Foundation.
Buchaechum is a traditional form of Korean dance also called a fan dance, usually performed by groups of female dancers.Many Koreans use this dance during many celebrations. Dancers use large fans painted with pink peony blossoms and display a show of dance. In the dance being performed, the dancers represent shaped images using the fans e.g. birds, flowers, butterflies and waves.
They wear brightly coloured hanboks, the Korean traditional dress.

댓글들을 보면 무용수분들 얼굴이 기괴하다는 말이 많이 보이던데 저 분들이 추는 춤이 옛날에 왕의 잔치에서나 추던 춤이라서 그렇습니다ㅠ 옛날에 왕이나 왕비가 주최하는 잔치에서 정악이라는 음악에 맞춰서 추던 춤인데요, 영상에 나오는 음악을 정악이라고 부르며 정악 또한 요즘의 음악이나 국악관현악과 다르게 감정이 들어가선 안되는 음악입니다. 그런 음악에 맞춰 춤을 추는 무용수들 또한 사사로운 감정이 들어가서는 안되기에 웃는 얼굴인거죠. 무표정으로 있거나 우울한 얼굴이면 잔치에 흥이 나지 않으니까요. 그렇다보니 전통무용의 경우 표정이 웃는 표정인게 많아요. 하지만 감정을 표현해야 하는 살풀이 같은 춤은 표정이 굉장히 슬퍼요. 이런식으로 전통무용은 보통 표정이 정해져있습니다. 저분들 표정이 계속 웃는 모습인게 기괴하거나 어색한건 모두가 느끼고 저 또한 느끼지만 전통을 이으려는 노력 중 하나라고 생각하시고 무난히 넘어가 주셨으면 해요 :) 전통무용을 좋아해주 셔서 정말 감사합니다.
I am not good at English, so I will translate and speak. The dancers' faces are constantly smiling because they cannot change their facial expressions if they dance in front of the king. In the old days, it was a dance performed at the king's party, so those who showed a somber or private look were punished. Thankyou for like korean traditional dance. :)

so good..We all learned and performed in the 80's when were in elemenary school.. it was one of the must perform while in school for the annual event in all over Korea..I think it is no longer..pity that we are not teaching them this....in Korea..
Now western influenced K-pop has replaced your traditional Korean dance forms.
At first the sound was quite mysterious and then it became kind of playful and happy music. While listening to it i was thinking of two historical mans fighting while it play in the background.

Wow.. did not know Korea is called Gaudiya in Sanskrit. One of the major ancient kingdoms in southern part of Korea was called Gaya, into which a Tamil princess married its prominent King Sooro. Now there also is a korean scholar who draws much linguistic similarity between Korean language and Sanskrit as well as Tamil.

I am an American, and I too, am sorry to see so much of the beautiful traditional Asian culture being lost to crude, IMHO, Western modern culture. Please be aware that the West was Not always this ways. There was a time when we were a polite, sophisticated and elegant culture. We have lost much, and sadly the rest of the world appears to be following our lead. The ultimate allure of wealth....
@@garyguyton7373 Yes, traditional dance forms of west are dying too, These days people are more interested in Hip hop and break dance rather than Flamenco, Ballet, Tango, Irish, Scotish and English folk dances, many other European dances forms are fading day by day.
But somehow India has managed to retain its traditional folk dances and Classical dances in their original form, but present generations are least interested in rich traditional dance forms and heritage left by their ancestors.
They feel more proud in doing hip hop and break dance.

That's what I was thinking the whole time too! If they could've swapped with a different main dancer...Although she was probably the best dancer with the least mistakes to be their lead. They wouldn't choose their best dancer to do the solo if she wasn't up for the task.

That is a smile of a nervous teenager trying so hard to not mess up the dance. I use to dance ballet a jazz and performing in front of a huge crowd is nerve wracking. You to keep a smile on your face and trying to remember the dance steps and position you needed to be. Specially if it’s an art school we’re there are times you are being graded while performing. You want it to be perfect. And these girls did an amazing job. Keeping their smiles and executing their dance flawlessly. Fighting girls! You did a great job!❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

Tim Tran I know it freaks me out too, but I guess that's cuz we're westerners and we're used to not smiling as much let alone forcing smiles either..
That's what I was thinking. It's one thing to hold a smile, it's another to do it so hard like they seem to be doing here. It just looks unnatural.
