    Jay if the gap is near the blade end of the handle ,the rise is high ,if the gap is at the end of the handle the rise is low . That’s a very nice w.rose you have the handle angle in relation to the blade is perfect . The Marshalltown trowel handles used to be set the way your jung trowels are set but these days they set them a little bit on the high side . As for the rose standard shank trowels ( which I’d say your one is ) they are any thing but standard they usually come with every angle under the rising sun. You are 100 percent correct in my opinion ,when you turn your trowel over and lay it on a flat surface the handle should be flat against the surface when the tip of the blade is in contact with the surface . The Whs/ tyzack trowels are made like that.

      Interesting .. are whs tyzack good trowels ? It seems most brickies have a marshalltown or rose ... I just traded some clamps for a wide London 11 inch marshalltown with leather handle ... one more for my small collection having more than enough trowels now , you can only work one at the time 😅but didn’t have a London one so can’t wait to try it out , not sure 11 inch is maybe too big for what I’m used to

      Jay Puyenbroeck when the Marshalltown trowels came on the market in Ireland ( I believe some time in the mid 70s at least ) they took over from the English made trowels Whs/ tyzack etc. Marshalltown trowels had more flex which suited our style of bricklaying . The Whs/ tyzack trowel blades tended to be a bit on the stiff side . They are no longer stocked anywhere in Ireland that I know of. The present day Whs / tyzack trowels have plenty of flex and are a very good trowel in my opinion. For the most part the Marshalltown trowels became the preferred trowels in the uk although the Whs / tyzack still have a following in the uk but I’d imagine judging by the uk bricklaying videos possibly less than 15 % use them now but I’m open to correction on that. The w.rose trowels are a bit of a new addition to the uk and Irish market.they are made from top class materials and when you get a good one they are top class but the are very inconsistently manufactured .

      Nice bit of information there :)

      I wonder if the extra rise on the Marshalltown is to allow for flex in the blade when the trowel is loaded with mortar?

    Nice collection of tools Jay 😁👍.
    Best of all has got to be the Big Pica dry pencil ✏ 👌, ive got 3 of them, one with soft lead, one with hard & 1 with the red crayon - so handy - I use mine everyday. I've also got the Hultafors dry pencil with the 3 different leads and use that for marking out fine work.
    I think I might try a folding rule next as you seem to use your's all the time.
    Thanks for an interesting video.
    Regards
    Tim

      Oh yes the pica dry is a winner , had many of those refillable models but they’re not dustproof as the big dry is durable , thanks mate 🙏🏻

    The “ you need a Marshalltown/w.rose trowel” brigade will be satisfied now jay . Only problem is they still won’t like the fact that you prefer your own trowels to them. Interesting video.

    • @JayKTS
      @JayKTS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I prefer the Jung when working out a tub , it’s more comfortable , I’ll start trying or using the rose and marshalltown more when I’m working solo more or less with some small bricklaying jobs ... hopefully I’ll get some in the near future

    Appreciate the explanation now i know what rebar tie wire pliers i need to buy. Almost impossible to find some of these types of tools in Canada. We have a cousin that lives in Sint Pauwels Belgique. Whenever me and my wife visit him i always take a drive to Hulst Holland cause its close to his house, they have an amazing tool store with unique tools, i always raid the store whenever i go the guys at the counter look at you weird. I have brought back many Jung trowels my most used however is the bucket trowel. The trowels you don’t used are the standard here and mainly for laying blocks. The way our blocks are made i cant see how it would be an advantage to use anything different.
    As i have said before 99% of houses here are built out of wood. Framers always use hammers over 20oz. I personally hate a waffered head hammer and i like the longer handle to get in tight spaces.

    • @JayKTS
      @JayKTS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dan , ok , st Pauwels it’s like a 45 min drive from my home , had a jobsite near there in Waasmunster 2 years ago and played some paintball in Sinaai with some locals over there a couple of years ago .. also build some appartmenblocks in De Klinge maybe 18 years ago ...it’s a small world sometimes especially in Belgium lol ..
      Now I’m curious what store you talking about also it makes me wonder how the Canadian blocks look like 🤔 , you mean the trowel with the stomp or straight front ? Here we use this trowels mainly for rendering or plastering .very handy for it
      Hammers from +20 oz wow but yes I can imagine when you need to hit big nails all day or handle large chunks of wood it will work better , problem for me isnt really the weight but more the length of it , it keeps bumping my knee the whole time when I’m wearing it on my side it annoys me 😁 .. thanks a lot man 🙏🏻

      Hello Dan, don’t want to be nosy but what part of Canada are you from? I have to agree with you on finding tools or products that I see in jay’s vids, it’s next to impossible here! Take care.

      @JayKTS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes mark the bricksaw is handy to make awkward cuts and we pre- cut a lot halves or 3quarters , saves you time while laying bricks .. for the clay blocks that we use it’s also good to cut with it because they have holes in it they are not really suited for a chisel
