It's hard to say goodbye to Odyssey 2, it's been a topic for about 3 years now, and it's a little sad we didn't get it. Still, im VERY excited to see what kind of new 3D Mario experience Nintendo has this time, hope it's open world!
Yeah I hope it's an open world 3D Mario game, but of course it won't be Super Mario Odyssey 2 which is sad because obviously we're not getting a sequel.
Mario is one of the few franchises out there that can release a half a dozen titles and not have anyone complain about over saturation for some reason.
This comment's confusing me. Plenty of people complained about oversaturation with the NSMB series, but the statement "half a dozen" makes me think you're talking about JUST 3D mario. Why would anyone complain about oversaturation for a series that has only had 5 titles over the past 23 years?

Depression - "It's never coming out... it's been 6 years, we would've had it by 2020" Acceptance - "Well, the first game was already fun for what it is, I guess we can move on without Mario Odyssey 2"
Yeah, this is exactly it. Odyssey had a pretty conclusive ending which made little room for a sequel. Besides, it stands well enough on its own. 3D Marios typically don't even get sequels (with Galaxy being the only major exception). It was fine as a one-and-done game like 64 or Sunshine.
@@mattb6522I don’t think the ending is a big deal, would argue that galaxy and 3D land are conclusive, they could’ve been start over with the story. However, I doubt odyssey have the potential for sequel as much as these two, Mario galaxy have a formula like no other Mario games, there is so much asset that don’t present(gravity, space theme) for another brand new game, they don’t want to throw the core of galaxy away. 3D land is less special but because the theming is so general and there is so much that they can change for this formula. Odyssey, on the other hand, doesn’t have as much asset like galaxy or as diverse and unique as 3D land, the only asset designed for odyssey is capturing which are just reskinned power-up with more immersion but not contribute to the gameplay as much, the metro kingdom is unique but it could’ve been included in other games as one of the worlds.
Whilst I played Odyssey from start to finish, getting all of the moons, it was never the 3D game I'd hoped for a sequel for the most. My standout 3D games were Galaxy and 3D World and it was these I hoped to see more of. In Galaxy I loved the snapshot into the world feel you got and the powerups introduced were really creative and imaginative. For 3D World there was so much variation and each level felt like the team had one central idea in mind and wanted to run as far as they could with that idea. But now I'd like to see a truly open-world adventure, like a Zelda BOTW or TOTK scale game set over multiple biomes and featuring massive bosses in each such as Boohemoth and King Bob-omb. I feel this would be a fantastic introduction to the Switch 2 especially if Bowser's Fury is anything to go by.
Let’s all pray that in the future someone comes back and plays Mario Odyssey and reminds everyone how much fun this game was goodbye switch and goodbye Mario odyssey
I really wanted an Odyssey 2 but then again, I don't think nothing will ever top that it was one of the greatest Mario games ever created that I have seen in my 41 years of living!
Honestly always wanted a Galaxy 3 over an Odyssey 2 any day. Something about the Galaxy series is just too special to not cap it off as a trilogy. Some day, maybe... some day.
What surprises me even more is we never got paid DLC for Odyssey. If you think about all big games from the launch year (BotW, MK8 Deluxe, Arms, Splatoon 2, Odyssey, Xenoblade 2) they all got paid DLC except Arms and Odyssey, and Arms was a failure.
"Two WarioWare games on one console, has that ever happened?" Yes. Mega Microgames and Twisted on GBA, Touched and Do It Yourself on DS. (Also technically Smooth Moves and D.I.Y. Showcase on Wii, but Showcase was just a way to play games made on DS)
I do wonder if maybe the next big 3d Mario will tie into the movie universe more in some way. Like, taking notes from its Mushroom Kingdom or Darkland designs.
Mario Odessey was my first game I ever played on switch. I got it along with my switch on Christmas 2017:) I had great memories with that game and sad to know there most likely won't be a sequel.
6 years later and I'm still coming to terms with the idea that I might like Mario Odyssey more than Mario Galaxy, which was my favorite Mario game since Super Mario World. It's a bummer that it likely won't get a direct sequel but I'm optimistic that whatever 3D adventure Nintendo has in the works for Mario next, it will be incredible.
and the only reason Super Mario Galaxy got a sequel in the first place is because they still had lots of unused material from the first game, which is also why we got a sequel so fast.

At first, I was surprised Odyssey 2 never happened because Odyssey outsold Galaxy and there was a whole manual of unused ideas. Galaxy 2 was made because all the ideas for Galaxy 1 didn’t make it. But then I realized that Galaxy 2 wasn't a very easy game to develop in the first place. They had to come up with enough new ideas to stand out, and there was low morale in the development team. Not to mention the mandates Miyamoto enforced which made Galaxy 2 repeat the story rather than continue it. Nintendo probably didn’t want a repeat of all the trouble the sequel's development caused them.

That's what I meant. Having like all levels banded together in one world for one big level and with different biomes like desert, snow, jungle, mountains, meadows, etc.@@KEP1983
I don’t really like the idea of sunshine 2, the tropical setting of sunshine is tiring. However, I think they can make some of the essence of sunshine come back for the fully open world Mario. For example, the one theme idea is awesome but maybe instead of sandy beach, it’s a arctic wonderland, or the idea of different fludd nozzle but maybe this time they give us a magic wand and have different types of magic.
I believe that the Switch 2 won't be as powerful as the PS5 and the Series X but will be able to preform the same. So hopefully the next 3D Mario game will be on a whole other level compared to the others 3D games.
TBH I Think It Would Be Cool To Have All Of The Partners In One Game By Partners I Mean Lakitu, F.L.O.O.D, Apricot (Baby Luma) And Cappy. You Could Like Change Between Them And You Need Them For Sertent Things And Also Maybe Even Prince Florian Could Be In It. It Could Be Open World Like BOTW/TOTK And You Could Go Around Diffrent Kindoms Buy Outfits And Stuff Maybe The Purple Coins Could Buy Upgrades For The Partners. IDK It's Just An Idea
R.I.P Super Mario Odyssey 2 I mean it would be cool if Nintendo ever does do it for it's 6th Year Anniversary but it would be sad seeing it not happening because we got 2 Splatoon Games, 2 Kirby Games, 2 Legend of Zelda Games, 2 Xenoblade Games, 2 Mario + Rabbids Games, 2, 1 2 Switch Games, 2 Fire Emblum Games, and 2 WarioWare Games so I think it's best to see what this new 3D Maio game would look like in Switch 2 cause hopefully it's good but Super Mario Odyssey was just one of the best Mario Games Nintendo has ever made.
This was an amazing video. You put this together wonderfully. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this and want to say thank u. From the whole Nintendo Community. Amazing work. 👍
Bowsers fury is still enough to tide me over till the next big thing. If you were waiting for a sequel or DLC for Odyssey and you haven’t played Bowser’s fury yet, then do yourself a favor. It’s that good. Better than most of 3D World in my opinion.
I believe Nintendo new what the fans wanted. We thought we wanted an odyssey 2, but Nintendo new what we needed. A brand new game, that will be way greater then an odyssey 2 will ever be.
@Zack207 yes u may want odyssey 2, and Nintendo knows u want it, but Nintendo also knows that making a brand new game will be way better- for both us and them
I think that Mario odyssey 2 will be the open Mario game and I think Nintendo took so long to make it perfect also it makes sense cause Mario odyssey 2, switch 2 so I think Nintendo will surprise us in the biggest way possible by make the open world Mario game, Mario odyssey 2 but hey that’s just a theory a game theory
There's actually 3 Mario & Rabbids games. Ever hear of Mario& Rabbids: Donkey Kong Adventure? Also, do any of you think we'll get Super Mario 3D All Stars 2, containing SM64DS, SMG2, and SM3DL in 2024? Or at least think Nintendo's saving those 3D games for something like that?
I don't agree that it isn't going to happen. Odyssey 2 is just as possible as an original game. Either way we know Nintendo is planning on a new 3d Mario...if they aren't they're going to get tons of backlash. They can still release a sequel on a new console...they've done it before.
Yeah and I want more combat like Mario punching and kicking and the option to use a hammer as a melee weapon, Nintendo doesn't have any creative ideas they just come out with the same crap each year.
I don't care what you say. I would still wait another year for the sequel. We're just getting the Detective Pikachu sequel and the original game came out in 2016
I thought I’d mention this. Involved in that rumor of the next big 3D Mario being on the horizon in an open world setting no less is non other than Zippo, the dude you referred to about his accuracy when you making predictions for the next Nintendo direct. Sure enough we got something F Zero related, Mario Vs Donkey Kong (I knew he was referring to that from the beginning because he used the Gif of the fight scene of Mario and DK in the movie), and some details about the princess peach game.
those of us who grew up with the older games know too very well what it's like to say goodbye to sequels we hoped to get. It's time the newer generation experiences that too. I liked odyssey, however I never expected a sequel in the first place.
I think it'll be a launch title for the Switch 2. It might not be Odyssey 2, per se. But it's lining up. They've been releasing so many Mario games lately. If the console comes out next year, I don't expect a Zelda or Splatoon or Pikmin launch title. Maybe Metroid Prime 4. Maybe Starfox? But it is Mario season.
I honestly don't mind that much, it would've been cool if there was sequel to this, but I don't think it would've been the best move in the end. Mario Galaxy 2 didn't do as well as it's former, even though it was quite good. I'm not entirely sure what happened there, but I think that must've been why Nintendo stopped doing direct sequels to it's 3D Mario games.
I liked the movement in Odyssey but I didn’t like the way it was structured or a lot of the visual design. I want them to bring back Galaxy level design
I can't speak for the video creator, but: Unless this comment is a joke-in which case disregard this-I really don't get this comment at all. We don't have “seven Mario games coming out.” Luigi, Princess Peach, and Wario are their own series with completely different playstyles. I love Luigi's Mansion but trying to equate it with the Mario games is just silly. And even then, of the four Mario games coming out, literally three of them are remakes. Not only remakes, but remakes of one puzzle game and two RPGs respectively, which not everybody are into (I personally love TTYD and SMRPG, but still). And then the last game coming out, Super Mario Bros. Wonder… Is a sidescroller. Which, again, not everybody are into. My point is, none of these games are _the_ big 3D Mario game (64, Sunshine, Galaxy, etc.) everybody is waiting for. And to be clear, Super Mario Bros. Wonder-from what we've seen of it so far, anyway-looks good! It really looks like the people who previously worked on NSMB were able to make a game that was truly creative and could stand out for the first time in ages. Whenever I get around to playing it, I'm sure I'll have a good time. But I'm honestly just not as into that style of Mario game. I like them fine, but I'd take the big 3D Mario games over the sidescrollers any day of the week. And given that as of this October it'll have been six years since the last big 3D Mario game, the longest wait time yet, I really don't think it's at all unfair or unreasonable to want the next one soon. Also all of these games have completely different teams working on them. SMRPG and TTYD are straight-up made/being made by two other, completely different companies. The development of one game doesn't impact the other.
@@AnodoniPeach Luigi and Wario games are Mario games because they are in the Mario universe and feature Mario characters. Also Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Wario Ware Move it feature Mario in the game so they’re Mario games like Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart
I don't really think it's fair to say we'll never get an Odyssey 2. We can never really say for sure. They said they wouldn't put Ridley in Smash... and then they did. Anything is possible.
Thank God. Odyssey 2 was wholly unnecessary. It would have been even more unnecessary than Galaxy 2. We ONLY got Galaxy 2, because Nintendo wanted to do more with the game, and DLC wasn’t really a thing back then. They had just enough ideas to make it into a full game. Same story with Tears of the Kingdom. Odyssey didn’t feel like it was missing anything. It didn’t need more kingdoms. We spanned the globe and went to the moon. It just barely didn’t overstay it’s welcome with the collectibles. No more was needed or wanted. Bring in something new, that will be as refreshing and revitalizing to Mario 3D as Wonder is for Mario 2D. Way better than just more Odyssey.
They should have released Super Mario Odyssey 2 with multiplayer co-op with Mario and Luigi playable and Mario should have floating power and Luigi with invisible power and fire powers also which will make the game super awesome.
Unpopular opinion warning I found Mario Odyssey boring. Most of the moons were easy peasy to get and the bosses were not that interesting in my opinion. If they make a new game with the capture mechanic I hope they'll let players carry the capture to other worlds. That way people could beat the game as a Goomba, as a Koopa, as a tree, etc and it would make for interesting gameplay and videos but that would probably take them a longer time to develop the game but quality is better than quantity and Super Mario Odyssey is definitively a quantity over quality game. I never felt any moons were fulfilling to get and I never felt like that with any collectible in a previous Mario game.
Still shocking we never got a super Mario Odyssey 2 since how good the first game was Nintendo is definitely moving on with the next 3d Mario game

SMO2 is still entirely possible until we get the next 3D Mario game reveal if it isn't SMO2.
I want an open world Mario more than I want Odyssey 2!
I'd love to have a big open Mario game like the Bowser's Fury part of the Super Mario 3D World Duo pack.
@@FloatzelMan definitely agree, though I think it would be best if it all flowed together, rather than having the areas separated into little islands.
That's what I meant. Having like all levels banded together in one world for one big level and with different biomes like desert, snow, jungle, mountains, meadows, etc.@@KEP1983
@@FloatzelManAgreed.
Super Mario Sunshine 2 I'm still waiting for. Any Sunshine fans out there?
Hola
Yep! Here! I'm also still waiting for Super Mario Sunshine!
@@QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4 Great idea!
This game was FANTASTIC. I really can’t wait for the next full game
I believe that the Switch 2 won't be as powerful as the PS5 and the Series X but will be able to preform the same. So hopefully the next 3D Mario game will be on a whole other level compared to the others 3D games.
Yep, btw who cares if it isn't as powerful if games perform the same
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! No Super Mario Odyssey 2 :(
I've got my hopes up for Super Mario Galaxy 3 lol
There’s no way I could see them doing that but that would go crazy
We needed a haunted kingdom for the boos 😭
Nope I still want Odyssey 2
*knew
@Zack207 yes u may want odyssey 2, and Nintendo knows u want it, but Nintendo also knows that making a brand new game will be way better- for both us and them
I NEED ME A SEQUEL IDC!!!!!!!!!!
This video made me so sad. I'm gonna do my best to believe it still. I cried that you gave up! But still good video.
Nintendo: sorry we aren't making super Mario Odyssey 2
Modders: *I'm about to end this mans whole career*
Would you rather:not have Mario oddesey two,or Nintendo milk it so badly that everything else is a dumpster fire.
They could still make one, maybe in the super Mario Galaxy style. Instead of going to Kingdom to kingdom you go to planet to planet
Better. I never liked how different was Odyssey from Galaxy and Sunshine. I want 1-UP mushrooms again.
I think it will happen but not as soon as we think. I'm sure it will be the opening game of Nintendo's next console generation.
I don't agree that it isn't going to happen. Odyssey 2 is just as possible as an original game. Either way we know Nintendo is planning on a new 3d Mario...if they aren't they're going to get tons of backlash.
They can still release a sequel on a new console...they've done it before.
Nin10doland: It’s time to say good bye to Super Mario Odyssey2
Me: Bruh I never welcomed it to begin with
OMG SAY GOODBYE TO THE GAME THAT NEVER EXSISTED
I would love a Mario adventure game that is more like Zelda with equipment upgrades and puzzle solving combined with platforming.
Yeah and I want more combat like Mario punching and kicking and the option to use a hammer as a melee weapon, Nintendo doesn't have any creative ideas they just come out with the same crap each year.
6:32 What is that theme song from cause I heard about this theme and I don't know which game this theme goes to?
I don't care what you say. I would still wait another year for the sequel. We're just getting the Detective Pikachu sequel and the original game came out in 2016
finally time for this man's SMO2 videos to end 💀
Beautiful
This is the funniest thumbnail I’ve ever seen
Oh, my gosh! What a great video!
The amount of Mario enemies you could use as captures would probably give us more Mario odyessy games than Mario games ever
I want them to bring back Galaxy level design
everyone: ODDYSEY 2! ODDYSEY 2! ODDYSEY 2!
me: been waiting 13 years for galaxy 3..
Bro we have seven Mario games coming out and you still want more
I can't speak for the video creator, but:
Unless this comment is a joke-in which case disregard this-I really don't get this comment at all.
Hi yoshi fan
My idea is that bowser will almost k*ll mario but then mario will meet cappy and F.L.U.D.D again.
The next 3D Mario game should have Luigi and be multi player
I gave up hoping for an Odyssey 2 for a while now. Oh well, I’m looking forward to the next 3D Mario Game whatever that might be.
By the looks of it Mario Odyssey is going to the route of Mario sunshine a game with many fans that will never get a sequel
Not gonna give a parade for every other 3d game. i mean 3d land came out in 2011
They should have released Super Mario Odyssey 2 with multiplayer co-op with Mario and Luigi playable and Mario should have floating power and Luigi with invisible power and fire powers also which will make the game super awesome.
huh, didnt even know it was ever time to say hello to oddyssey 2
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Sadly we won’t get a odyssey 2
Dude bowser is invincible he’s survived being beat the crap out of over 64 times
I feel like super Mario odyssey 2 is still coming it j hasn’t been revealed yet bc it’s prolly gonna be the switch 2 launch title
Unpopular opinion warning
I found Mario Odyssey boring.
