My first car was my grandmother's 1975 Plymouth Valiant Custom. The speedometer did not work. Also, the windshield wipers died not long after I got the car...while I was driving in a heavy rainstorm. Fun!
It's super cool seeing Bill mention his now wife of 10 years with 2 kids as just "his girlfriend that he's hung out with a few times", Bill has come such a long way since this special, glad you guys enjoy his content!
My Datsun 510 hatchback, high school, '87: driver side window didn't roll down. My buddy and I used to drive thru McDonald's backwards, he would order and take the food. The night manager got so pissed because she said we were " unsafe". So freaking funny!! That was one of many things wrong with my first car: 0-60 in 35 seconds! AM radio No AC Great times and memories! 😂
damn....her smile is SO BEAUTIFUL....Image what its like to have Justin's life? He can be in a bad mood.....she walks into the room and smiles and he's instantly in a good mood. Lucky man....
The heater. I drove myself and brother to school with frost on the inside of the window! Had to roll the window down and stick my head out! (Thankfully only 3 miles to school, and in the country so less traffic) :)
My first car was a 1987 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz that I bought for $800.00 with 176,000 miles on it. The seller was a friend of my Father’s and he said “you’ll be lucky to get a year out of it” because he told me it needed new engine mounts. I wasn’t going to spend the $800 the mechanics wanted on a car I paid $800 for, so I just drove it with no actual plan. The radio screen was broken, so I couldn’t see music stations as I was dialing. The air conditioner worked well in the winter and so did the heat. The air conditioner worked when it felt like it in the Summer. Neither power mirror worked. The sunroof didn’t work. The driver’s side window got stuck down and I got it back up by pulling and pushing it back up, but it never worked again. The rear defogger/defrost didn’t work. The window wipers worked, but sometimes they worked too well...coming on in the middle of a sunny day...other drivers probably thought I was some lunatic. The brake lights stopped working and changing the bulbs and fuses didn’t fix anything (I got a few tickets for that!). Something wasn’t right with the horn (it sounded very muffled). The power door locks stopped working, the fuel gauge stopped working, so I always had to guesstimate how much fuel was in the car based on my last fill up. The speedometer worked, but wouldn’t register anything over 40 mph because the dashboard was digital and anything over 40 mph read “88”. The interior headliner cloth started to become unglued. The electric passenger seat adjusters didn’t work, so passengers had to sit pretty far back and the interior trunk release button didn’t work, so I had to open the trunk with my trunk key (completely separate key from the key for the ignition). The car never left me stranded though and I had it for 2 years and 10 months before it began to overheat. It was either the thermostat or the radiator and I wasn’t about to put a nickel into that car, so I sold it to a scrapyard for $200 back then. These days, I tend to drive Toyotas, Fords, Lexuses and Lincolns. I usually buy pre-owned, but in good shape. I like to buy a car after it has taken its nastiest depreciation hits, but I’m looking forward to that new Bronco that Ford will be selling later on this year or in early 2021.
In my first car, a 1978 Plymouth horizon, there were quite a lot of things wrong. But there was no radio at all. Just a hole in the dash. I had a battery operated radio that happened to fit perfectly in that hole.
I had a 78 Volkswagen Rabbit back in the day. It had a lot of problems but perhaps most annoying was that the heater didn't work. A few times when it was cold and the windshield fogged up I had to roll down my window and lean out the car to see!
Staci is FOIN! Eyes are sooooo pretty. Smile is dynamite gorgeous. Justin is cool. Much continued happiness to you both. God Bless. -Steve, S.F., Cali, USA
My first car was a 1968 AMC Javelin. The gas gauge did not work. I used a rubber fuel line as a fuel tank dip stick, with notches carved out in quarters of a tank.
77 F-150 transmission didn't shift from 1st to 2nd without having to getting my foot of the gas and then hit the gas again .I was 13 at the time I loved that old truck
85 Toyota corola waaay back in 1999. Front door handle wouldn't open from the outside. AC did not work (brutal here in Texas) Radio was shot and I basically had an actual boom box in the back, behind the front passenger seat for my tunes. I was creative with my ac and made one of those homemade styrofoam cooler packed with ice with a fan blowing into it (not bad for not having youtube yet back then, I was especially proud).
1971 Chevrolet Malibu. Previous owner little old lady. The car was in great shape when I bought it in 1985. I was 25 years old with no drivers license, and no clue ha ha. I didn't know about changing oil and nobody mentioned it to me...the end :o
My second car that I bought was previously owned by a housewife who rarely drove it. A Renault Alliance that had no radio. I had to install an AM/FM/cassette (I'm old), and had to install an antenna.
LOL. Motor mounts.. Week into owning my first hand me down car from my aunt. I was on my way to pick up my tux for Prom. Luckily coming off an exit so I wasn't going fast. The motor dropped. Coming off the highway exit, the motor mounts just busted which pulled the steering column from the wheel and I wasn't even able to steer off the road safely when it died.
One of my husband's first cars was an old-school VW beetle/bug. It had no muffler so you could hear it coming a mile away. He's not a small man so he was pretty much sitting in the back seat. But the worst part was that you could "see the road through the floor boards"!
I got a ‘95 Chevy S10 extended cab, only 2 speakers worked on the stereo and both were on the passenger side and were too shitty to really hear much, and the AC just blew hot air on full blast constantly. I loved that thing though and put some money into it and had it running really solid for about 6 before the old gas lines in it started rotting out and it got parked. I still have it though!
On my 1987 Grand AM didn't have reverse so I had to park on a hill so my first move was backwards. When I got ready to leave I would put it in neutral, open the door slightly and push it back with my foot.
@503 Workshop that's hilarious. yeah the struggle was real. I either had to park where I could just drive off or I had to make sure there was a bit of a hill where I could let the car roll backwards out of the spot. lol. more than a few times i had to crack the door open and stick my foot on the ground and push a bit to get momentum to roll back. I am surprised my left leg wasn't twice as big as the right after all that. If I ever have a car like that again I'll just walk or ride the bus instead.
I worked at an Aluminum producer for 28 year's and there were 2 communal shower room's out of cement block, with 18 shower head's in each one. So, basically, I have showered with other men for about 36 year's. I'm retired now, thank God! You guy's are really fun to watch. The natural "chemistry" I guess.
I had a 1990 Audi that did not have heat, was not a big deal until January driving to grocery stores on my route for work (stocking pizza in freezer isle). So -10 degrees in car with fogged windows, no heat, driving to store to work in the freezer and freezer isle.
I bought my first car in 1998. It was a 1993 Fiat Panda (I live in Scotland). The radio never worked and the tape deck swallowed the first tape I put in it and I wasn't able to listen to anything else. The tape was a Green Day mix tape and it wasn't long before it got very old.
I had an 82 Toyota pick-up (in 82 when safe sex meant locking the door). Factory cassette player ate 4-5 of my tapes. I had to cut it out with a hack saw blade, no handle.
I'm an 82 yr. old white guy and I love your reactions. My favorite is Bill Burr at SNL. I really like his "white women" bits. My wife not so much, lol.
Things that didn't work on my first car. Tough question because the first two cars that were mine were actually my mother's and father's cars but I drove them all the time. This was in 1977 when I first got my license. My father had a 68 hatchback barracuda that he personalized with metallic brown paint and leopard skin interior. New engine and new 8 track player. I remember at different times the breaks, windows(not electric) and radio not working. My mother had a 68 black Charger. That worked pretty well except it was very light in the ass so I did a lot of power breaks with it. So I guess the tires. LOL. other than that the electric windows I guess. My first car I bought myself was a 78 black Trans Am. No T-Tops. This was in the early 80's. That had Engine problems down the road and I had to replace it at one point with an engine from the junkyard my friend put in for me.
The gas gauge on my first car, a '89 Honda CRX, was misaligned so when the needle was about to touch the red line close to empty the tank was actually more or less empty already. I found out about that like 25 miles from home and nowhere near a gas station haha I was able to call a relative to get towed though fortunately.
Gas gauge. I ran out of gas constantly!! On the way to my own graduation 😱😱 Everyone knew I was on the side of the road. I should have carried a 5 gallon gas can with me now that I think about it! 🙌🙌
my first car was a VWBug that had been Baja 'd. we then tried to put it back to a street rig. there were a multitude of things that didn't work. signal lights, had to hand signal everything, found out the oil light didn't work. Um damn that was 40 years ago supprised I remember that much.
