I lost it at the line ''Because if there's one thing rich girls are gonna do, it's they're gonna go to war for their small dogs that can fit in their purse.'' Toppest tier joke! The rest of the video was also great!

Minto wasnt even slightly snooty in the reboot, it's like they were scared to have her be even a little mean to Ichigo so they just removed the scenes between them which really hurt their relationship in the long run. To me reboot Minto is an OC, it isn't Minto in any way it's just a totally different character wearing her skin. All her personality from the OG was stripped just like with the other girls and she has the same generic characterisation as everyone else in the reboot. Such a disappointment.

It’s weird they wanted to apparently make it empowering for women yet made Ichigo as smart as a rock and stripped everyone else of their personalities…all while emphasizing all the problematic things from the series.

@@kstarnovagal6672 It's seriously incredible how they managed to dumb down Ichigo so much, she became a helpless maiden who couldn't even conjure up a single thought. OG Ichigo could be kinda ditzy at times but she was still stubborn, resilient and was actually a good leader. She showed kindness when she needed to and showed strength and spirit when she needed to. She wasn't some brainless pushover like the reboot makes her out to be. I really hate how the reboot writers thought turning everyone into a blank slate was "empowering", sure just strip every girl of their unique quirks and flaws and personalities that'll totallyyyy empower them

I agree... the show needed more content, more length in runtime in order to expand the character. But, the fact that she's a still an emotional kid, wants to be more active in her duties and not offend her family was a nice addition. You can't fully fault her, things don't make sense completely to her either. As for the corporations not coming to the rescue, I can agree on that fully. Humans need course correction after all.
Although, her being inspired by Zakuro to persue her own path after feeling unnoticed by her family was handled well.

I realised most of the episodes had been meshed so the amount of the episodes we had with the OG, was not in the new one which was kind of a let down because I loved the Valentine’s Day episode and how ichigo actually put effort into her chocolate. I also noticed how she became his girlfriend so fast in the second one 😭
I will say I love how there’s more emotions in the characters like Ryou. He seemed jealous in the beginning whenever Ichigo mentioned Masaya but slowly adapted. I don’t know if it was more to do with a more protective love like jealousy or just trust.
I also hate how they didn’t include the mews finding out about Purin’s mum and how she takes care of her siblings alone ..
I also wanted the ending to be so much like the original where ichigo actually gives up all her aura and power to save masaya and he crys over her body when he wakes up. Him just waking up in the end is weird to me and how they just swiftly move on from that.
I wanted to see more of Lettuce with Ryou and get an extra episode that kind of gives closure to them.
They should’ve also been given a few more attack sequences to give a different take.
Would’ve loved to see the Christmas episode too with ichigo and masaya
And we need Zakuro’s past to be a bit more transparent
I also would’ve loved that episode with Mint’s ballet and her saving her brother who used to be very much distant to her growing up.
A lot of the episodes in the original were like growing steps, leading to development .
We just don’t have that with the new one.
I do like that mint is more mature in the new one and lettuce is more confident however that doesn’t really justify the reboot as we still need a bit of snootiness from Mint, and the comments she makes a lot of the time.
Each character has their own uniqueness in the original .. I didn’t appreciate the major changes.

"I wanted to see more of Lettuce with Ryou and get an extra episode that kind of gives closure to them." Agree. I didn't expect them to become a couple at the end and I don't mind open endings. The problem is that in "New" the writers didn't even make an effort to give them a SATISFYING open ending, something that the viewer could perceive as a closure. It's like they thought "We don't know what ending give to these two, let's have them chat happily in the background during Aoyama's farewell party so the audience can imagine whatever they want".

Yeah, a lot of my die-hard Kisshu friends were so disappointed with how he was in New, especially when it came to Ichigo. He never got one on one time with her so his obsession with her seems so unwarranted!

2:38 idk i personally prefer this. before she was just some snooty girl whose dog turned on her. by adding this scene later in the series, we got to know Mint better and about her struggles in decision making, which opens up for that sweet dialogue between zakuro and minto about how that’s okay. i get what you mean, it was a surprise to me too, but i don’t think having Mint be a mew first really had that much of a negative impact. it sort of added to her (half façade) “holier than thou” energy in a way since she was technically the first
at the same time, i watched the series over the last 2 days (aside from the last 2 eps of season 2) and i do remember it sort of as a filler ep

    • @obli_vianne5232
      @obli_vianne5232  ปีที่แล้ว +4

That's a cool way to look at it! For me, Mint was our typical snooty girl, and I feel like if there wasn't any real reason for her to want to transform, she wouldn't. So Mickey being targeted and this girl Mint already doesn't like attacking her dog gave her motivation to do something. We don't learn how she became a Mew Mew first and for me personally, it lessens her initial transformation.
Ichigo was in the right place at the right time, trying to get closer to her crush.
Lettuce was insecure and acting out due to self image reasons.
      Pudding just wanted cute ears.
Zakuro (in the original) was just strong and wanted to take care of things herself.
Mint not having the reasoning of saving Mickey just makes her mew mew origin kinda :/ to me.

This is an interesting comment, because that's one of my biggest issues with New. It assumes we already know all of the information. But this is a new adaptation of a 20 year old manga. If this is supposed to bring in new fans with no knowledge of the series, there's gaps of information they're missing out on. Even as a veteran fan, I was lost. And my boyfriend who only got into TMM around the time the reboot came out had the same thought. I guess if you want to experience the story but abridged, this is a good way to revisit it! But as a standalone adaptation, I don't think it does it's job.

@@obli_vianne5232 There are only 7 issues of the original manga. My problem with older anime adaptations of manga, is that they used to drag out the story and milk it until the cows come home with boring fillers and too much stock footage. Manga is worlds better than anime in my opinion. Manga and anime adaptations that only had like 2 or 3 parts hit harder than 55+ episodes of nonsense. Utena is the only exception to this because it hits different. 90's Sailor Moon barely gets a pass because the other senshi are interesting characters, and the movies are decent.

@@sailorx7563 Agree to disagree, at least in the case of Tokyo Mew Mew. I think it depends on the manga and anime adaptations, personally. I think InuYasha's manga is miles better than the anime, but TMM I think benefits from some filler and expanding on the characters. I do see your point and I respect it for TMM. But when it comes to New, they did Aoyama really well! But I also like the manga more than either anime myself :)

@@obli_vianne5232 The manga art style of InuYasha is really nice. But I actually didn't get into it like I did with the anime. Maybe I'll try again. Honestly, it was a cool anime, but I didn't finish the final act. Sure, I can agree to disagree on TMM because you do have some valid points. I'm just a manga fan 4 life, lol.

Just dropping by to say that I couldn't stand Mint in the manga and had her be one of my favourite characters in New. They made a clear point to have the new anime be different because they wanted it to be NEW, it was never meant to be the same as either the manga or the 2002 adaptation and so many people are annoyingly attached to what they grew up with. It's not a remake, it's a readaptation, what they did with the characters in the new anime was great for the most part but no one ever gives the writers credit for their hard work due to rose-coloured glasses. So sick of it.

    • @mariekannazuki280

The criticism are due to the animation which is not bad but not fitting the character designs and personalities and also because of how rushed it is compared to the original. It’s not bad to want to alter the original story to fit the new audience more, but it’s definitely feel a bit lazy. I was absolutely disappointed cause they could’ve done better by taking more time, I wouldn’t mind some changes but it’s not keeping up with the quality of the original animation so naturally people are going to complain cause they will feel like it was just done for money and so they didn’t try to do their best. Even the transformations were a disappointment itself, I was expecting something magical and exciting, something better than the previous ones.

This is a really good point! I just think in general the adaptation still has some issues, and seemed not totally clear on what kind of audience they wanted to draw in. New viewers, veterans, both? There just seemed to be things unexplained and you could only understand if you already knew the story from either the manga or the OG. I still think parts of Mint's character was unsatisfying in New, but I do also think if I didn't read the manga or watch the old anime I would enjoy her portrayal in New a lot more.
That being said, this video was not made to hate on New just because it's new and different, but to point out what I felt was weak in the adaptation. New has a lot of things I like about it, but there's things I dislike about it, too. I watch New more than I do the original anime because I love the Ichigo and Aoyama relationship there, and I like the art style better most of the time. I just wanted to express why many Mint fans weren't fond of her in New, is all. :)
