From one new homeowner to another, get some paint primer for any future painting over dark walls!! Its way cheaper and you wont have to do so many coats of paint. Just do a layer or primer and then paint over it!! Congrats on your new place!!!
Yeah, primer makes all the difference. The Valspar V700 bend paint in B&Q has a primer mixed into it. You can get it mixed to any colour. It's so incredibly good and saves a step. I've not used any other brand since discovering that.
You can hang doors over that shelving unit? Could cut out some of the bases of the storage cubes and create vertical space in some areas. Might be easier and cheaper than building a giant bespoke unit!
I think I’d like maybe sliding doors that recess completely, then you can have the best of both worlds and an easy change to how the space looks in seconds. That way you’d save money on building cupboards and you’d still have the storage!
Now that you’ve done such a great job painting those built-ins, I’m hoping you’ll keep them! They look a million times better! They would look so good filled with wine glasses, dishes, vases, platters, serving bowls, chargers, napkin rings, table linens, etc. And some random cubbies with books, trinkets, greenery, etc. To have so much glorious storage where you can create beautiful vignettes and have it function for a beautiful dining room is amazing! It’s like a butler’s pantry and dining room all in one. Well done, you! Sooo worth all the sweat and sore muscles!!! This first success makes me even more excited for the rest of your home renovations!

gabby! you should have used frog tape to stop the paint getting on the edges of your carpet! it’s super cheap, doesn’t damage walls or flooring and blocks paint super well x

The lighting in your new place is unreallll! ❤️ I have a little top tip for using paint trays, I always put a carrier bag over it so theres a layer of plastic between the tray and paint. Sooo much easier to turn the bag inside out and chuck it rather than cleaning the trays! Worst job ever in my opinion haha x
As an administrator for a building/construction company in Australia, let me tell you how grateful my boys would be if they had a client buying them biscuits, coffee, tea etc! Not sure if it’s something that just isn’t done in Australia as much, but regardless, it’s such a lovely thought!!

We’ve got one of those type of plugs in our bathroom and one thing I will say is that over time, the pressure of pushing it up and down has actually caused the sink to start cracking inside.. not saying that’ll happen with yours but just in case xx

Do you watch Lydia Millen , the shelves in her office are very similar and she did a video recently on styling them it maybe helpful for some ideas . I really like them painted . Rest well when you can and most of all stay hydrated x. Take care everyone 😉

Hey hun ,great job on the painting and love the house however did you know that you can get the magic paint roller at Asda ,Tesco's,argos etc... it's a roller that paints with no mess and can carry upto 900ml paint in it self,it has a little compartment for the paint so you dont have to keep dipping it in the paint pallete .Just search MAGIC PAINT ROLLER in Google and itll show you what it's all about.Its really helped me with my room as I did redo my room so that's a little tip for ya! Keep up with the good work hun x !
Hey those copper lampshades look like tom dixon lampshades which are like 300£ each so you could always sell them or donate them if you dont like them x
Those shelves actually look pretty good now. But yeah, I'd definitely go for something with doors on, cause those shelves are gonna be a pain to dust/clean.

I think that once they are dressed the shelves will look so good. If you could get a joiner to fix some doors to a few of them they would be pretty practical too 😊
Unless the wall was painted after the shelves. Then who knows what’s going to be there. All I know is that wall is going to need to be mudded and sanded after those shelves come off.
Purple is my favourite colour but even I have to agree those shelves were hideous! 😂 You did such a good job. They look much better now and I think they will look great next to your dark room until you're able to get rid of them. I honestly admire how hard you work and how much you can/are willing to do on your own rather than hire someone. ❤️
Me and my boyfriend have just bought our first house and the bit im most excited about is getting the keys so I can go in and clean! I also really want to paint some of the walls to freshen it up a bit but houses are expensive so that may have to wait 😂 😂
i love it !!! however it would of been cheaper to have the colour mixed into a big white tub of dulux :) ... they have specialist mixing places in the uk like mines at our local hardware store. saved me so much money in the long run :)

If you use primer on dark colors first its way more inexpensive than pain. And will save you loads of money!

We brought our house in December, with Nationwide. We also got one of these boxes. such a great surprise :)
Looks lovely...next time use a primer first then paint. That way it won’t need so many layers of paint. Stops the colour bleeding through. Xx
