A wonderful review. Thanks. Consider doing more. Sometimes these games (not AAA) are judged before giving them a chance, thus focusing too much on aspects that are not the best rather than things that were delivered quite brilliantly.
I’m a big fan of the new GoW style “wide linear” world, I have enough huge endless open world games if I want that. Also glad to hear there are puzzles! This looks like such a big improvement in every way to Vampyr, a game I was rooting for more than I ended up liking. Great vid!
Thanks! I haven't played Vampyr, but I've heard it's underrated as well. Banishers isn't perfect, but I really do think it's a solid game!
I agree, gameplay mechanics + a solid story is all I need. GOW did it. Last of us did it. Now Banishers. love it.

Awesome review! I have been a gamer my whole life but I have a chronic illness that makes some games like Elden Ring or other more complex games difficult for me to play. So these wide linear world types have been really great for me and I find a lot of the other review channels are too hard on games such as Banishers.
I found your channel when I started playing Horizon and really love your videos so I was stoked to see you had one for Banishers because I really loved the trailers for it! Thanks 👏🏼

I love this game and what impresses me most in the world of horrible PC optimization my RTX 4090 is easily getting well over 100 FPS at native 4K maxed settings with no upscaling or frame generator! HDR sucks on PC though I’ll give the consoles the edge on that.

I was interested in this game, but timing of release is probably why it flew under the radar. At least for me. It came out just after Granblue Relink, around the same time as Helldivers 2, and not too long before FFVII Rebirth, which itself is not long before Dragon Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin. Also had Infinite Wealth and P3 Reloaded in there. Just too much. This should have come out in the summer, I think, but that is about the time that I will finally be able to get to it. I don't plan on missing it. Thanks for the review!
Yeah it's funny because it was supposed to come out in November and they said they delayed it because of "a crowded launch period" around that time, but I think they actually delayed it into a much more crowded period, unfortunately. I would say it's definitely worth circling back to later!

I've been waiting for its release since it got announced. So far. I really like it and I'm glad it's a long game. I think it came out around helldivers and all the other call of duty Bros are playing that instead of playing a real game. It's so refreshing and different this game. I'm hoping it sells well or maybe becomes a cult hit

its a fantastic game and the story and acting is some of the best i have seen.
but the combat is its weekest link and could have been so much better.
its the only thing that is putting a lot of people off from playing it.
i am not one of them though i am enjoying it despite its flaws.
I like the game but the combat gets tideous after few hours, there are like 6 enemy types, 4 combos and almost no significant skills that change combat because almost all of them are 10% more this 20%more that..
It does a good job at worldbuilding and i really liked the Investigations. That's where the game shines. They are interesting and Characters are well written.
Not a fan of that "oath" thing though because if you decide to stick to your oath you can't really judge freely and just go with what benefits your Oath. Kinda takes the decision away.
What is the loot system like is there very much to collect and no I haven't finished watching the whole video I have kids I'm busy thank you to anyone that replies
its a great game that runs well on consoles but it crashes on the PC version so avoid that.

Great review! When I saw you posted this, I was very stoked to hear your opinion of this game as we seem to share a lot of the same "values" when it comes to what a good game is.
Your review really cemented what I thought this game would be like, and I'm very glad the "choices matter" aspect of this game is actually a real and fairly deep part of the experience.

Great video Arktix. I totally agree. It is strange how little hype there is around this game. Incidentally, why didn't you do a valhalla masterclass for Ragnarok?
Thanks! Yeah I think it's just a lower budget game, so it hasn't gotten as much press. I enjoyed Valhalla, but it was pretty short and there wasn't much new to cover in terms of mechanics or combat tips. So, I decided not to do any videos on it since I wouldn't be able to get them out quick enough. It was a good DLC though!
It looks like an early PS4/ XONE game.
Storywriting and direction is good (with a little bit of WOKE nonsense espacially for the time the game takes place in) the combat can get a bit repetitive and collecting upgrade-materials is just annoying.
the "boss fights" on the other hand are super fun, all in all an above average game that could have done with a better, more modern graphics engine...
I'm 13 hours in and Im loving the game so much! Just arrived in the Harrows (also the void walking is so much fun!) I love how your choices actually matter.

A very underrated game imo. For the ones that said they were gonna get the game…do it. One of the best games I’ve played in a long time and certainly better
than many AAA games that have been released lately.
Excellent review, man. I've been looking forward to this game, but wasn't 100% sure about it. But after seeing yours and Mortismal's reviews, and then seeing IGN gave it a 3, I decided I definitely want to try it.
Even if the combat is a relative miss, the storytelling and environment alone sound very worth the price tag, especially since it seems the overall production values kind of trump a lot of AAA-priced games.
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful. I wouldn't say the combat is a miss. My only real grips with it is the parrying is very difficult to time correctly and you have to run back to shelters to get healing potions. Other than that, once you get the hang of it, it's a pretty fun combat system. I would definitely agree the game brings a lot of value compared to some AAA-priced games.
The combat isn’t a miss. If one is going to compare it to the flashy awe of Devil May Cry, or the plethora of build options in Elden Ring, then yes, one will be disappointed. However, there’s enough going on for combat that it works for what the game is. I would also say the combat is not the focus of what is on offer for the game.
Yeah, after having started playing it last night, I am more than okay with the combat. To be clear, I wasn't claiming the combat a miss, I just meant if it turned OUT to be a miss for myself, I think the narrative, characters and worldbuilding would be more than enough to carry the experience, as those are the heart of the game.
But really, for DontNod's standards, I think the combat is surprisingly good! And from this review (and others like Fightincowboy's) say, it only gets better. Seems the only "major" letdown is the severely shallow pool of spectre types. But I'm not worried about it. Like you said, I'm not expecting DMC complexity or enemy variety.
@@xleaselife the spectre variety was a bit meagre. It does get a bit more complex when they start to buff each other, and certain possession types get kind of gnarly.
But I do agree with what seems to be a common refrain in reviews that it would have been nice to have a few more enemy types, variety being the spice of life.
It, however, wasn’t game breaking for me, as the bosses were really where I felt the enemies personally impressed the most.
@@vanessaboyko1582 I'd heard that the boss fights are genuine highlights. And, personally, I weigh boss fights far more over general encounters. Can't wait to try them out!

Oh Yeah definitly underrated and dare I even say overlooked by most gamers, surprisingly! It's a fantastic game with a great world to explore and a dark story very intriguing. There's only the combat that lacks variety at some points.. I almost finished it and I certainly Will 👍

Couple Days ago I finished Vampyr and I loved it! Story, combat, atmosphere, whole idea about it was awesome. So I ran to The shop for Banishers and….it blew my mind. I love GoW, Witcher and Vampyr and this is combination of these three titles. I was literally pulled into this story and I live it with main characters. After 10 hours it is 9-10/10 for me and I cannot wait what will happen❤️
I've had this on my radar to fill the gap til Horizon: Bloodlines (/s), so to hear high praise from The De Facto Horizon Channel is more than good enough for me. Guess I have something new to get into this evening now!
It’s REALLY good. The only gripe i have is sometimes when i try to dodge, following an attack, I’ll spam press “O” like 20 times and Red doesn’t do anything, and then I’ll be bombarded with enemy attacks that feel unavoidable. Blocking almost does nothing but save a little bit of health. The game overall is really fun and I’m almost down with the main story missions. Once i am I’m going to take my time to explore more and fuck about
