    she did a fantastic job interviewing. gave him time to talk, time for questions, drew out his opinions on tough subjects, kept runaway callers in check. bravo!!

    I always liked Diane Rehm. There was never a question in my mind where she stood politically but she was always fair to her guests.

      @@TheRaveMusicArchive i didn't get the impression she was doing anything other than holding an excellent interview, so it must've went right by me. She threw out some oppositional questions and statements but it didn't seem like she had a particular agenda.

      @@cwr8618 @ 7:30 I get the impression she leans to the left. Thomas Sowell debunks her claim. She did a good job of moderating, but a couple of times she cut straight off after Sowell's answer to plug the show. Seemed a bit sudden, but I guess that's how it works on talk radio. This type of interview is a breath of fresh air when you look at what it's like today.

    (11:43) Caller: So you're saying ...
    (13:52) Thoms Sowell: I used a lot of cross-checking of 1 set of information with another set of information and that's how I arrived at the conclusion. The money spent has very little effect.
    I've checked spending internationally
    I've checked spending from state to state
    I've checked spending over time
    I've checked spending as a percentage of the gross national product

    The guy at the beginning says he disagrees with Sowell about the quality of the education being low because of special interest groups. But he really just has an issue with the fact that he didn't specify "conservative special interest groups and liberal special interest groups warring against each other."

    • @michaelk969
      @michaelk969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The sad fact is that the liberal interest groups won that battle decades ago and the NEA is the principle hotbed of liberal activism that has pushed all of the destructive policies in education that have caused it to fail.

    Great conversation - what a contrast to public discussions these days (sounding like my Dad, Jesus actually more like my Grandad). No-one sounded like they were about to cancel or call out the other. The callers were trying to converse and were treated respectfully. And the topic could not be more prescient for today’s educators. We’ve really carked it for the kids

    • @michaelk969
      @michaelk969 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cancel culture, taking away the voice of an opponent whom you cannot defeat using reason, is a hallmark of Marxism and specifically cultural Marxism. It is endemic in today's culture. This is one more sad indicator that our nation is on the precipice of a Communist revolution. In the past, respectful debate was the norm; schools even taught "Rhetoric" as a formal class! Now, when you cannot win a debate against people instead you remove their app from the Apple and Google stores and take away their servers! (The demise of Parler)

      Today people who disagree don't call in. They gather groups on social media and start a peaceful protest with signs and yelling outside the show's building, refusing to engage in a 1 on 1 debate. It's all emotional reactionism and groupthink. Dangerous.
      As Dr. Sowell reminds us: don't confuse your feelings with your thoughts. 🖖

    Went to k-12 from 1993 to 2006, in 8th grade (2001-02) our middle school hired a police officer to operate as a hallway monitor. When I got to high school there were close to a dozen I saw each day and the police force most likely has an office inside the high school.
    The woman at 25:45 got obliterated by Sowell. If you go a university to study engineering they could care less about your feelings or how much you are struggling with the material.

    2:20 he completely side steps what the caller asks. She explains that pure book learning doesn't work for everyone, gives an example of learning by action as a way to portray that there are various ways to learn.
    Sowell then makes it sound like she's just talking about feeling good and not actually learning, when in fact she is talking about learning just with different methods.
    Sowell just dismisses it somewhat facetiously which is disappointing

      FCC has rigid rules governing Station identification during timeslots. Also ad money cannot be dismissed even if it's support funding for public access tv.
