    Jamaica has so much potential, if only we could look within ourselves , value ourselves and what we have and hence work hard to curb crime, violence and indiscipline! We would be the economic, tourist, transshipment hub and one of the best places to live in the world! We do not know what we have! We have what we need to be great!

    Victoria Pier was a hangout spot for my older siblings and me in the 1970s. We took the ferry to Port Royal and played in the giddy house many times.

    As a child I remember downtown very well, my mum worked at British American Offices in Harbour Street..
    We used to shop in King Street at Woolworth Issa and Nathan Stores.
    Good memories for the rest of my life. I am 73 years old and living in London Happy to be a Jamaican.
    Thank you for these awesome videos, love it, love it.

    I used to work on the Norwegian banana boats running between London and Jamaica for the Jamaica Banana Producers Steamship Co between 1966 and 1967, and 1970 and 1971. Can't recognise any places when watching this video. During my first period we mostly discharged general cargo at the Hanover Street Pier, next to Myrtle Bank Hotel, before loading bananas for London in one or several of the costal ports(Port Antonio, Montego Bay, Oracabessa or others). During my last period we mostly discharged the general cargo at New Port West Nice memories with thinking back on lazy Sundays enjoying a few Red Stripe by the pool side at Myrtle Bank Hotel maybe giving the best memories.

      @Ingvald Tangen Maybe you will recognize Port Royal Street here th-cam.com/video/fMhpp8roggg/w-d-xo.html This is the route on google maps: goo.gl/maps/xNSyE1hMW7cWMSYFA and according to map the Myrtle Bank Hotel site is to the right after passing Gold Street.

    I got a little nostalgic when I saw the old Woolworth's building. This was the store we shopped for back-to-school and Christmas supplies. At KPC we attended CYO then went to Zaraks for a dance party. Those were the days 😁🤗

      @JoyHarrison 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you remember Woolworth's in the 1970s (if you're of a certain age)? The ice cream trucks operated by some white guys used to park especially in front of there.

      Chavoy ...its much bigger than you see here, for he didn't get to go up Hope Rd towards Hope Garden, Utech, and UWI, IF HE WENT THE OTHER WAY, East HE WOULD BE ENTERING Constant spring RD. LONG STRETCH GOING NORTH UP TO LEAGANEA, IT CAN TAKE ALMOST AN HOUR GOING FROM SOUTH TO NORTH Traffic lights and all, it seems like the Rds have not been re-paved since I left 20 years ago though. I LIVED IN KINGSTON ALL MY LIFE. Love Ochie Mandeville and Mobay though.

      @@InJamaica Well the term uptown can be very tricky and is often misused.The hills of St Andrew is really what uptown is.....Back in in the days ,many plantation owners who would duck the city for the cooler hills of St Andrew ,which started the tradition of wealthier Jamaicans living uptown.It is also geographic and demographic.a demographic example would be for example, Grant's pen and Cassava piece are all geographically located"uptown" yet we all know them as ghetto communities .,A next constrating example would be portmore being in St Catharine yet we refer to alot of people from over there as "uptown people"....
      Uptown is more than the beautiful part of Kingston, it is sometimes use to describe affluence.........

      @@kenny_Blackstone Uptown and downtown always refer to a city, never a suburb or country. I think this is just your definition of uptown and downtown. Take New York for e g Uptown is north of the city and downtown is south of the city (and any well-defined city in the world for that matter has an uptown and downtown) Uptown has the reputation of being rich, while downtown is poorer. Uptown, downtown is always a city concept and there is midtown too. Then you have the suburbs and country side. Up in the hills of St Andrew is way country no matter if they have big houses
