- Behringer K-2 MK2 is awesome, especially because of the patch bay on the right hand side of the synth. In this video I explore some of the things that can be done and the one feature which blew my socks off.
Feature list from the Thomann site:
Monophonic sound engine
2x VCO with four waveforms and ring modulation
VCO mixer
High-pass and low-pass filter with resonance
LFO with triangle, sawtooth and square waveforms
Two analogue envelopes for VCA and VCF
Signal processor with amplifier
High-pass and low-pass filter and envelope follower
Semi-modular design allows access to all sound engine components via 25 3.5 mm jack sockets
Can be used as a complete Eurorack synthesiser voice (width: 80 HP)
Poly-chain function for connecting up to 16 devices
6.3 and 3.5 mm jack line outputs
3.5 mm jack stereo headphone output
MIDI In / Thru and USB-MIDI
🦾👽Suuuper cool and really powerful synth modul setup! 🚀
Thanks bud. Appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment.
The ESP is the coolest feature of the MS20, had one in the 1990s and main thing i did was plug Drummachines in and let it make weird noises. Bought a K2 just because of it.
Yeah, bit late to the party but so glad I got here in the end!
this is very good
Thanks my friend.
My k2 mk2 is currently getting CV from Ableton's CV tools via expert sleepers ES3 (through adat) : envelope to cutoff lpf , LFO/shaper to Total mod, LFO /sahper 2 to PWM , and finally audio from softube modular osc modules (rubycon, plaits, doepfer , ... ) : it works very nicely. The resulting audio goes back to ableton into overdrive and reverbs . I'd like to buy a real envelope module though because i need the hands-on experience that a mouse or a controller doesn't provide.
Sounds like a really cool setup. Good plan on getting an envelope module. I love MI Stages and some of the Behringer options are decent too. What do you think of the ES3? I keep on looking at Expert Sleepers modules but struggle to justify the cost of the ES8 / ES9.
I've got a Mk1 K-2. With a soldering iron, one can mod it to become a mk2.
I’d like to say anything is possible with enough time / skill / money. Depending on how much you have of each of these is going to determine the answer for you. If you do manage to mod the MK1, I’d suggest you document and share your journey on YT as others will no doubt be interested. Good luck!
really interesting demo. Some of the sounds reminded me of Star Wars crossed with an Atari 2600! I really can see the appeal of this set up but I know I would never getting any music making done if I got into modular
Saying that I am still keeping an eye on Thomann for the next batch to come in and will get the MK2 when available. On it's own it still has enough of a broad palette of features to keep one interested for a long time. Would be great to hear it with a simple drum loop and multi tracked. Cheers.
Yeah, the modular rabbit hole is an easy one to fall down. Will see if I can rustle up something slightly more conventional.
I'm not into modular, but I might be persuaded to put the K2 into a rack with my Moog Mavis and other rackable gear.
Not a bad plan. If you do, have a look at the Four LFO or Abacus as these open up a world of interesting modulation without getting stupidly complex.
I can not go modular I'll loose weeks from just messing around 😂
I hear that. It's so much fun, but not much music gets made... I have a plan for splitting out the various elements of a jam so I can start harness some of the happy accidents in tracks.
@3dims I mean I probably should make a small modular rack for the kinda stuff I make, it would benefit me in a few ways as I like to resample everything anyway with an akai sampler almost got a Victor but I ended up getting the pro vs mini and jt mini
If you do end up wanting to pull together a modular rig give me a shout as I can give you a few pointers and hopefully save you some time (and cash).
@@3dims Nothing wrong with messing around with modular, it's like meditation or at least recreation. Having a great day (or weeks) making wonderful weird sounds might lead to more focused and inspired work the next day (or weeks) when you want to produce something more specific. 😁
Too right!! I often kick myself for not having a recording going when I’m just noodling about as getting back into the same groove is so tricky.
Idk, exactly in this case Neutron / Proton looks better and more powerful
I’d have to agree they’re better modular synths, but I’m impressed by the capabilities for £169.
@3dims btw at this week I'm bought k-2 mk2 too. ) Powerful monophonic 🦾
