Demasoni "my rocks... fool"
We'll kick the year off with a fight, an epic dual of dominance for territory. Started out filming the metriaclima red top zebra picking a fight with the demasoni which caught the attention of the johanni (the demasonis true rival) who soon intervened for the red top to soon be nowhere in sight.

Back into the hobby after 6 years. Getting ready for a custom tank. What do you do when they keep fighting? Change the tank scenery, separate them?
Depends on the situation, this was just a territory thing because I'd just rescape, things like that will settle once they've all reclaimed what's there's. Sometimes fish just won't get on no matter what you do its always best to remove the aggressor to save yourself a headache.

that demasoni is huge
It's fully grown adult male at about 4.5 - 5 inches, it's a good size for these.
I’m pretty sure the purple one with the vertical stripes is the same species I had He lived for nine years I named him Bluefire because he looked like he had blue flames on his cheeks He was my very first African Cichlid but I grew up with South American and Central American cichlids because my dad kept cichlids They will always be my favorite family of fish I’m obsessed with cichlids I have a shirt that says (Easily distracted by cichlids) and has a few different African cichlids on it💯😂🐠💙🔥
Nice, I like it. As you can tell, I'm also pretty obsessed with cichlids, they are also my favourite species of fish. I feel like I should take it to the next level like you and purchase a t-shirt.
I bought those 2 fish 2 months ago in the same day from the same store and they where getting well with each other and their other tankmates but I had the bad experience to lose the demasoni from parasites 10 days ago,it was the only fish that died after the treatment...
These are normally alight with each other, I can this kind of fighting whenever I move rocks around when there Re establishing territory.
@@AfricanCichlids Fish are often territorial and agressive and cichlids are into that.I remember more than 10 years ago when I had 2 big oscars and I housed them with a silver shark for about 5 months and the previous night I had the idea to remove the silver shark and put it in another smaller tank and the next morning one of the oscars had the idea to put the silver shark in its mouth.What can you say??

i like demasoni. I have just1. would like to add in group of 6 or 8
I'd add 10 - 12 or just 1, they don't do well in low numbers as there extremely aggressive towards there own kind and will take each other out in low numbers.

I don't know, African cichlids is a broad term as they vary in size from 3 to 12 inch

Are they actually hurting each other?
They fight after rearranging the decorations in the tank, it's a territorial dispute, one claims the area and the other backs down and goes elsewhere in the tank.
What fish is the white one from 0:36 th-cam.com/video/08D9A63sGrQ/w-d-xo.html ? Is it a female by any chance? I have 2 of them at home and they are extremely aggresive to each other, i thought they were females but they are completely ignored by the male. (I have a black/dark blue male mbuna with orange fin tips, possibly a johanni) - just 3 Mbuna for now but probably getting more asap.
That is a white top afra male... They are very aggressive as are all afra.
@@AfricanCichlids Thank you for the reply. Are there any chance of a male with no spots on the dorsal fin? I am hoping mine is a female, but none of the males seem interested in her/him and it keeps bullying my other female :/
@@IonCatalin unfortunately like all afra the females are bland in colour. They are normally brown or browny grey so if it showing the same colour as this one it is most definitely a male.
@@AfricanCichlids Many many thanks, it looks like my tank has 3x males (White Afro, Johanni and Auratus) and only 2 females (yellow lab and possibly a white afro )

Yes they were, it was after a rescape, I think they were deciding over who has what rock.

Raccoon Creek Aquatics NO! It's normally a pretty chilled tank, it's due to a rock rescape and the Johanni has caught up to the demasoni in size and I think it fancies it's chances.

Raccoon Creek Aquatics one of the things that go with African cichlids,there very aggressive very territorial fish, it will settle down in a day or two once they've established who lives where 😂
Heap Aquatics haha nice, when I had my south Americans, I'd try to scape it so it was difficult for the fish to claim territories.
Raccoon Creek Aquatics that's a fair shout, it's a little more difficult with mbuna as you need loads and loads of them to spread aggression, you also need heavy rock work to create absolutely loads of hideouts for them.
My mbunas are fighting like what should I do? Why are they fighting?
They fight in general, it can help to move the decor around and add more to disperse aggression, the more mbuna there are the less chance there is of one being targeted and injured.

Yes, all mbuna have teeth as they need them to graze algae from rocks in the wild

i have 5 Cm oscar and same size dollar i made mistake by buying two Demasoni 3 cm and since 12 hours they have ripped fins of my silver dollar and Oscar. Which chiclid fish i can keep with oscar who are peacfull?
Rahul Pawar you definitely want to rule out all rift lake cichlids, they need to be alone with other rift lake cichlids. Check some south American cichlids and larger non aggressive fish they can't fit in there mouths
