RMT's been a class act for as long as they've been around, 20 plus years at least. I've got six of their "Beep" diesels and let me tell you, put two or more together and they'll pull anything! "Beeps" aren't in production at the moment but in the future, who knows? As far as the "wobble" is concerned there WAS a problem with some RMT ore cars about a year ago with defective trucks but that problem's been put right. I stopped by the Henning's booth at York myself and had a nice chat with Walt Matuch, the owner of RMT. VERY nice man! But of course, he's a Jersey Guy! I didn't get any RMT cars at the Henning's booth, I'm waiting for their "Battleship New Jersey" car but I DID get a Henning's T-shirt! And it's top quality too! I was hoping to be the envy of all who see me at the gym but nobody's even noticed! Damn it! Nobody's noticed the Gryzboski's T-shirt either! WHAT the hell am I supposed to do? What's wrong with people! Seriously RMT's always been great value for the money. Thanks for posting Ray! And good luck on the hunt at Edison! We've got a club show here in Virginia this weekend where I'm going to try and thin the herd a bit. I'm not looking for anything (Isn't that what we all say?) but who knows what's gonna find ME?
Even without power Ray gets his weekly video out, true commitment! Great review of the RMT Boxcar, I'm definitely going to look to pick some of those up.
Interior boxes probably hiding lead weights to fool you!!!! Competition is always good. Noticing brake wheel and ladders are near bottom on Atlas which is cheaper to do. I'd say RMT is going to be a big pain for the competitors.
I agree on RMT rolling stock - the items are well built, look and run great, and have an amazing price point! I can see getting a few more of these in the future.
About a year ago I bought a couple of RMT tank cars and they were fine. Recently, though, I ordered a couple of RMT box cars and there were a whole bunch of problems. The roof walkway on one car sprung away from the body of the car as soon as I took them out of the packaging, On another the walkway was warped away from he body of the car in the middle. The brake wheels either were already loose in the packaging or just fell of the car. One car had one of the truck tolerances so tight holding the axles in place that the wheels couldn't roll at all. Sent the two boxcars back to the store I got them from who sent me a replacement that had the same problems. A 36' Ballantine wood reefer I ordered didn't have any of those problems but the pad printing looked pretty rough - as if done by a malfunctioning dot-matix printer. The cars have great details and weight for the money but the factory needs to have better quality control.
I had several RMT items on pre-order before I finally received my first one. I have to say, near Atlas O detail in close to "Menards" pricing. Great products! I still have 14 RMT items on pre-order and have received the 1, but am way more than satisfied with their products!
I have 2 RMT cars I had to fix both One the wheel was seized up The reefer has the uncoupler was not correct RMT gets a B For the price they are worth it When I run them with my Atlas MTH and Lionel, you really can tell which is which I met the owner at York He takes great pride in his products I will see you tomorrow at Edison.Great review
Good evening Ray, wife and I recently went to Pat's Trains in Wheeling WV to purchase several of his RMT Wheeling & Lake Erie custom run boxcars. The Wheeling & Lake Erie has a rail line about a mile from our house and I wanted these cars to run with the Mr. Muffins custom run Lionel Legacy W&LE SD40-2 #7023 engine from a couple years ago. While going through some of the other road names available I came across this exact boxcar and it immediately reminded me of you. So, I bought one. I have been checking Pat's website frequently to see if his W&LE (Pittsburgh & West Virginia version - as of right now, still shows as Pre-order) have arrived. When they do, I will need to get there ASAP to pick up a couple of them and while I am there, I will probably get the black Reading & Northern boxcar too.
I picked up two new RMT boxcars after York, one very happy with them. Yes the wheels aren’t perfect, but it really doesn’t wobble any more than any other car. I buy a good amount of Lionel standard O and Weaver boxcars for about $20, and these RMTs beat those easily
I just got Rmt ore cars and last year I got the us sugar cane cars they are not atlas 😁but are very decent cars for price compared to Lionel crazy prices I have Lionel cars that wobble I don’t have any on my rmt cars now I think it’s in the weight of cars but they are very nice for price Great video Ray I will stick to my atlas Mth cars but will buy some rmt 👍
I've got a couple I'm not real happy with but there is a good price for them so I glue the couplers and put in the back so the weights not heavy on them 0:54
I'm sold...I need to get some. I wonder with all the exposure that they're getting, I wonder how much longer it'll be till the prices start to creep up
Nice car, Ray! RMT makes some real nice rolling stock, for sure. I didn't see any wobble that was abnormal. Most track isn't perfectly flat, so it doesn't seem to be a problem. I have read where RMT fixed the wheel wobble problem, which may have been a manufacturing issue, in the beginning. As for metal wheels, my Menard's flat car has metal wheels, so maybe the plastic wheels were an early production run, or just what they could source, at the time. Who knows? I won't be at Edison, since there is so much going on, for the Holidays and I'll be in Atlantic City, after Christmas. Either way, a fine review, as always and an excellent video.
@@johnandrus3901 that was a mistake by me I’m not sure why I said it I have a bunch of Menards cars lol I guess that was just my way of saying they were heavier than Menards oops 😂
@ Yeah, they seem to be better built. I think that you might have meant plastic trucks, maybe? I like the fact that they are a New Jersey company. I’m waiting to get the USS New Jersey box car. It looks exceptional.
Nice video Ray! I just picked up one of the new woodsided reefer cars from Trainworld a couple days ago and they are absolutely awesome… and very dangerous for my wallet haha. I gotta find some of these boxcars.
Not sure what manards trains u have with plastic wheels all my manards rolling stock have metal wheels but definitely the RMT has more details for about same price as manards will check them out they better watch them self lionel will try to run them out of business that's how they keep thier prices high and offer u less😮
@@JimAlderson-cn6ek haha my bad Jim I actually have a bunch of Menards cars and I know they have metal wheels just a slip of the tongue. I should have added those in my comparison
Ur good not happy with all manards stuff but on a retirement income so money is a issue will definitely check out RMT and see if local hobby store carries them 😊
I have two RMT Steel Sided Box Cars and I love them. RMT is an awesome choice if you want quality but do don’t want to pay 70.00 for a car. I want to try a few of their Ore Cars very soon. Great Video👍👍🙏🔥💪❤️🇺🇸
RMT is really making waves in O-Gauge!!

Great buy and great cars
Heading to Eric’s Trains tomorrow for his open house, great video I might have to get one of those RTM trains.

Yep-they are the real deal, and a steal at that. I ordered a bunch more while they are still around at the nice price. . . .
Sometimes, the prototype wobbles! A wobbling car/engine is no big deal! 😮
I got an Strasberg ore car and I like the looks but I am having trouble with one coupler

See you Saturday at Edison
Do Menards have plastic wheels? I think most of them are metal. But I do like these RMT cars ❤
I haven’t seen any with plastic wheels but I have only been in O scale for a couple of years.
Remember, modern box cars don't have roof walks! 😮
Huh. For $30 ? Wow. Only real negative I saw was sliding door fit was loose. I thought rmt went out of business.
Next time compare apples to apples.
Watch a real train sometime. They wobble a bit.
