      My great grandmother and all of that side of my family come from Saba as well. My father owned land there and visited a couple times as a young man himself. I’m the great descendant of the Johnson’s of Saba. My great great grandmother was Bertha Johnson who was born on Saba and moved to New York later in her life. Hope to maybe get to meet you one day! God Bless from North Carolina! ❤️

    Wonderful video produced by you about this fantastic island. Saba really doesn't have bad scenery, everything is very beautiful. Amazing that this good road connects the whole island. I hope they produce more about. Maybe one day I'll get there, big hug to all. Almir

    Lived on Statia for 3 yeard and went to St. Marteen every 2 weekends. Most terrifying trips. Most times it was 3 of us students and we could see the pilot...I would need to be drunk to visit my aunt on Statia because I would have to land there 😅😅😅. Seriously such a mystical place and I would certainly visit soon again

    I’m curious why they don’t speak Dutch. Isn’t it the Netherlands after all?

    • @tinydancer867
      @tinydancer867 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can answer that for you. When my Ancestors first landed on Saba and started to civilize the Island, it waany always apart of the Netherlands. The Island changed hands many times throughout the years, and my Ancestors were not only Dutch, but English, and Scottish as well. I’m not sure what language they originally spoke, I’ll have to look through records, but most were originally Pirates and I believe for the majority of Saba’s History since Ancestors civilized it, they have spoken English. Hopefully that answers you’re question a tad bit. If I discover anymore about the language my Ancestors spoke early on, I’ll let you know. God Bless!

      @@tinydancer867 Thanks for the helpful information! It’s an official language on Saba and it’s great that the Dutch didn’t force their language compared to many other former European powers. However I thought that Dutch was still taught on Saba and Statia, maybe because the schools are bound to Dutch law. I feel like the Dutch overseas territories, most notably the leeward antilles are the most disconnected to the rest of the country, compared to ost’s of say France and the UK. Do you think this construction will hold in the future as well?
