I have a 1982 CX 500 Custom that has been sitting in my shed for 25 ish years. Keep telling myself I will restore it some day. Perhaps this post has inspired me...
Two years is a long time to wait for a project to be completed. Looking at the design proposal that was agreed upon, I'm guessing David and his client spent a lot of time spinning off ideas to get them to this end result. My guess is time might have been a motivating factor just as much as the extra cost for those spoke wheels. Your Photoshop design proposal hit the nail right on the head about lowering the suspension. With or without the spoke wheels. Lowering is an improvement to this design. The one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is the battery box (what I think is the battery box) at the bottom of the gear box. Thanks for another enlighten video.

Weight shift % in regard to center of gravity and change of its position. 6.comparative test runs with original design. 7. Structural damage in frame if any due to change. 8.engine performance, cooling /overheating aerodynamics effect. 9.other items you may think of. 10. Set a score from 1 to 10. Most definitely agreed on the spoked wheels ! And a slightly more aggressive lowered stance would put that bike in a totally different league ! Great design exercise Victor !
Respectfully, I fully agree with you on the wheels! Plus, slightly lowering the suspension provides the correct Café appearance. Overall, this is a wonderful build. And, as always, thank you for Racer TV, the Café Racers only choice! Hope you and your family are all doing well. Cheers:)
It’s beautiful work, I only felt bit confused about this scrambler style exhaust, but other all awesome, mono shocks, end of the tail the CX500 emblem… beautiful
I do not get hung up on lines and symmetry, but that is a great example. As someone who went through 5 cx500 as a London courier, its kinda funny to see how popular they are as a custom build. 50hp and shaft drive still makes so much sense today, much more is just a waste. I thought the later Revere 650 was he best all round bike.
Thank you my friend for sharing your very interesting perspective. Yes, the 650 has a much better engine. But I am also suspicious on saying it.(I have one) lol. :) Cheers.
Gracias totales.
Fantastic motorcycle as well as the video that is spectacular! This particular engine has already made it possible to present the most beautiful creations on this channel.
Extraordinary selection. Impressive vision. What wonderful works of art. The minute 0:37 caught my attention in particular. I know, it's strange. Congratulations David Widmann. I would love to pay him a visit to his NCT workshop.
I have to agree on your views about using laced wheels and squatting the bike down a bit. Also, it looks like the battery was repositioned to under the transmission and in doing so I think it would look better if it had been mounted horizontally rather than vertically. Better yet putting battery in rear cowling if possible would clean things up even more. Kind regards.🇨🇦
Indeed. I agree with you. But i think the battery is a conventional one, and not from gel, which may conditioned its location and position. Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.
Very interesting video about an Amazing bike.. Love everything about it; only one question : how is it possible to go through european technical inspection ? Mot, tuv, contrôle technique.... Could be a topic for another video in the weeks to come ? Merci mon ami.
Thank you. I'm glad you liked my friend. That is a very good question. Here in Portugal, it seems everything is possible, except if the main frame structure is modified(Which turns everything very complicated), and if some of the parts are not EU approved. With this Honda CX, it would be extremely difficult to make it road legal due to the monoshock suspension and the frame modifications. :) Salute
Indeed. That is also why my personal cafe racer bike, is a Honda CX, but with a 650cc engine. Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. :) Um abraço.
Excellent video Racer, as always. A very cool looking CX, but a agree with on the wheels, it's spokes all the way. Ride sage and take care mate. Cheers
Thank you my friend for your always great support. A friend of mine told me today, that the spoked wheels would look even better, if the rims had a similar tone of the rest of the bike(not black). Maybe a dark brown, or bronze tone. I think he is probably right. :) You too my Friend :) Cheers.
I agree. For any budget build, Vintage Honda frames and comstar wheels are nasty to work with. I highly suggest using a 82 Goldwing with the better mag wheels & bigger displacement motor. I have done a few. Much more bang for the buck when all the labor is done. Smitty
@@RACER_TV I think there may be two years of Honda gold wings with the mag wheels and the bike is still carbureted? Anyway. I cut the back half off and redid it moving the shocks forward a bit. Then I cut the top all up and put the cheap eBay 125 Honda gas tank on there. it was a very low budget deal. If you have a link, I can send you a photo of the build. Smitty in Vegas
Wonderful stuff......mate youre getting pretty poetic..And Ive always said riding a motorbike is a poetic/romantic..deeply emotional experience that trancends materialism and goes way beyond the 'product' called motorcycle. Excellent keep it up.

@@RACER_TV Beautiful..As part of my job I visit many peoples houses and a funny thing ive noticed when I speak to older people, prompted by any kind of motorcycle memorabilia I ask them about bikes and they get a far away and distant look in their eye, a smile develops across their lips they are taken to another place some how....and when I ask what they rider many have been known to say, oh...I havent ridden for 30..40..50 years...but still they have that eternal look of peace and freedom on their faces. Im sure it taps into the first ride on a bicycle, wobbling, worrying, and then realising......oh...im doing it.......the first taste of liberation from human only powered movement....blissful indeed.
Another beautiful Honda CX Vitor ! Very tastefull well balanced bike. Your right about the wheels they are very expensive. Its amazing how you morf those spoked wheels into the video
Hey Steve!!!, was a surprise to see your comment here mate!!, so I believe you are doing well, have you ever finished that CX 650?, all the best my friend!!
@Coolhand99au Helooooo Dear Steve. Just like Carlos said, I am also very glad to "see" you here. I consider you also as an authority in everything that is related to a Honda CX. Yes, the morphing transition is always very interesting to see. On this case, I included the spoked wheels on Photoshop, and after having a still image, i used it on a morphing software. I'm glad you liked this one my friend. :) Cheers.
Hey Carlos Great o hear from you ! Yeah just about finished the CX650 cafe it's been a long haul Shes pretty much mechanically complete this weekend Ill get a video out next week and should start firing her up also
Thanks Vitor I have just about finished the Honda CX650 cafe racer Again inspired by the 2021 winner of the best Cafe racer on your channel These two bikes are my favourites both inspired by the beautful machines you show on your channel Keep up the good work mate

Crazy looking, for this CX project!! I love it, and i m sure that spoked wheels would be better looking. I have a 650 CXE in café racer, with spoked wheels and i love it. Can i send you some pictures on your mail? Thanks Julien
Bela moto. Apesar..
Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. A friend of mine told me today, that the spoked wheels would look even better, if the rims had a similar tone of the rest of the bike(not black). Maybe a dark brown, or bronze tone. I think he is probably right. :) Cheers.
Café racers are cool if that’s the kind of riding wanted & this one is beautiful. But for daily riding I still prefer comfort & the ability to haul a little bit with me in saddlebags.
Superb! I am a great unconditional fan of spoke wheels, but exceptionaly, here, I prefer the original wheels and don’t find the spoke ones a good option or of any consistency with the rest of the bike and its design. By no means
Hi, I clikked on the cx500 as my favourite cafe racer bike.. Is my vote counted? Would love one as a friend had one, it was a cx440ltd. (I know it was, in silver) a great bike I loved it awhile, but it may be one of those cliches in the matrix things but where has it gone.. Thanks from Greg with the Fazer (98 fzs600 Having new alu' radiator put on, waiting for pipe in the post..) in Zummerset |SW UK
@gregoriousgilbert519 Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. Unfortunately, the election ended 2 days ago. The video with the final results will be published at 2 of february. :) Cheers.
Hi Vitor, Another great video. Thank you for making and sharing it. I have to agree with you regarding the wheel choice. Those comstar wheels would have to go in my opinion. However, your CX is still my favourite 💙 Incidentally, from one video editor to another, how long do you typically spend editing and producing each video? I know it is a very time consuming process but one that I do enjoy. Kind regards Paul from 48 Spokes 🇬🇧
Lool. Thank you Dear Paul for your kind comment, and also for sharing your opinion. I usually need 2 weeks overall to conclude all the work of each video. But in terms of hours of work on image editing, script, transitions and so on, I think it will be an average of 15 to 20 hours of work. :) Cheers.
I like the minimalist look of the original wheels best, the spoked wheels seemed too busy and distracted from the overall aesthetic. It's very well balanced and beautiful machine \m/
Thank you my friend for sharing your interesting perspective. I don't dislike Comstar wheels, but on this bike, I think it would look better if he had chosen a "Comstar" on the larger diameter version, just like this builder did in the previous project with another CX.
Lool. Thank you. I'm glad you liked my friend. To be honest, my photoshop skills were not so great on this video. I could not remove the exhaust tip on the rear spoked wheel. :) Cheers.
I will allow myself to disagree with your opinion about the wheels in this project, the original wheels for the Honda CX 500 are the most beautiful rims that can only fit this model, I stayed with these rims in my modest project and I am very happy
@@RACER_TV Many cx500 projects on your channel arouse my admiration. And in many cases, spoked wheels are the perfect solution. However, I really like this project because of the use of original Honda rims.
Thank you my friend for your support. But here is my problem. Most photos/videos I received, don't have enough size for a Full HD video(or higher). I could make my videos in Full HD resolution. But the image quality would bad. That is why I prefer to work with 720p. :) Cheers.
@Norman Uittenbogaart Thanks for the suggestion. But I am already using it for those photos with a very low resolution, like 620 X480 or even less. On some photos, it works amazingly good, but on others, it gives a certain artificiality to the photo, as if it was something painted on photoshop. Believe me. It is not as easy as you may think. Especially during my editing work, in which I need to make some zoom operations on the details of the bike. But again, thank you for trying to help.:) Cheers.
the rims runied they whole look, but of He change the rims I don't responsible for your headache...as a builder you must responsible for your own build, be tuff like Tony Strak
Unfortunately, things are more complicated than most people may think. I use this "robotic" voice created by software, because I'm Portuguese, and my bad English accent (and voice), can ruin the documentary character that I like for my videos. I already tried a real British voice in one of my videos, and, surprisingly, almost everyone hated it. The good news is that I have already found a perfect artificial voice for my channel, which is very realistic in the emotion with which it speaks every word. Try to hear it on this link: th-cam.com/video/hJXW3zS07hk/w-d-xo.html :) Cheers.

Hi. I also have a Honda CX 650 with almost 50 thousand km, and I never noticed any excessive heat from the engine. Being a water-cooled engine, I don't believe this will ever happen. :) Cheers.
I bet it runs like shit. Those carbs are impossible to tune with pod filters. Same for most mikunis Honda used at the time, including the series CB and CM.
Sorry, You probably have had bad experiences in the past about this issue. But fortunately, that is not true. My honda CX 650 has the exact same carbs from the CX500, and similar pod filters like these, and after changing the jets, it runs much better than from factory. Never had any issues during the last 5 years. :) But thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.

Dont agree about the wheels ! Although if they had a gold highlight they'd be better ! But what a beautiful bike !!
Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. A friend of mine told me today, that the spoked wheels would look even better, if the rims had a similar tone of the rest of the bike(not black). Maybe a dark brown, or bronze tone. I think he is probably right. :) Cheers.
Klasse !
I'm glad you liked my friend. :) Cheers.
Café racers are cool if that’s the kind of riding wanted & this one is beautiful. But for daily riding I still prefer comfort & the ability to haul a little bit with me in saddlebags.
Awesome
Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. :) Saludos.
Superb!
I am a great unconditional fan of spoke wheels, but exceptionaly, here, I prefer the original wheels and don’t find the spoke ones a good option or of any consistency with the rest of the bike and its design.
By no means
Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers
Yes l totally agree about the spoked wheels but l would make them solid black.
Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. :) Cheers.
I'd prefer a simpler exhaust pipes layout, other than that, that is a well thought out build 👍.. We'll done
Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. Personally, I think these exhausts help to avoid the emptiness under the seat. :) Cheers.
Just Nice 👍
I'm glad you liked my friend. :) Cheers.
pretty bike, nice video
Thank you my friend for your kind comment. :) Cheers.
:) Cheers.
Hi Vitor,
Another great video. Thank you for making and sharing it. I have to agree with you regarding the wheel choice. Those comstar wheels would have to go in my opinion. However, your CX is still my favourite 💙
Incidentally, from one video editor to another, how long do you typically spend editing and producing each video?
I know it is a very time consuming process but one that I do enjoy.
Kind regards Paul from 48 Spokes 🇬🇧
Lool. Thank you Dear Paul for your kind comment, and also for sharing your opinion. I usually need 2 weeks overall to conclude all the work of each video. But in terms of hours of work on image editing, script, transitions and so on, I think it will be an average of 15 to 20 hours of work. :) Cheers.
@@RACER_TV I am not surprised, you really do an excellent job. They are always very enjoyable to watch. 👍👏
Dope❤
I like the minimalist look of the original wheels best, the spoked wheels seemed too busy and distracted from the overall aesthetic. It's very well balanced and beautiful machine \m/
I like the idea of using the original wheels, but they will just work with a very dark colour like on this machine.
Thank you my friend for sharing your interesting perspective.
I don't dislike Comstar wheels, but on this bike, I think it would look better if he had chosen a "Comstar" on the larger diameter version, just like this builder did in the previous project with another CX.
He kept the wheels because its shaft driven. There is limited options to swap.
Not really that hard, I did to mine 😅
I agree
TOP 👍👍
I'm glad you liked my friend. :) Cheers.
Another great video..
I totally agree with the spoked wheels. Talk about cherry on the icing.
Great photoshop 👌
Lool. Thank you. I'm glad you liked my friend. To be honest, my photoshop skills were not so great on this video. I could not remove the exhaust tip on the rear spoked wheel. :) Cheers.

🤣
The wheels were that good I didn’t even notice until now.
I won’t tell if you don’t 🙏🏼🤣😉

This Honda engine is good.
Faboulos bike!!!!
I'm glad you liked my friend. :) Cheers.

Incrivel..apenas..
Fico contente que tenha gostado. :) Um abraço.
Nice looking bikes but the computer narrator is rubbish, it would be much better to hear your actual human voice, just sayin', cheers.
I really like the original cx 500 if I had it I wouldn’t customize it

👏
What app do you use for these voice overs?!
💯💯
Grande projeto tem presenca
Obrigado amigo por partilhar a sua opinião. :) Um abraço.
Still no one cut that shaft drive down yet ? the one guy that impressed me here then a student with a little help was behind the BMW R1800
Total leg burner
I will allow myself to disagree with your opinion about the wheels in this project, the original wheels for the Honda CX 500 are the most beautiful rims that can only fit this model, I stayed with these rims in my modest project and I am very happy
No problem. I respect diferent opinions. This is just a matter of personal taste. Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.
@@RACER_TV Many cx500 projects on your channel arouse my admiration. And in many cases, spoked wheels are the perfect solution. However, I really like this project because of the use of original Honda rims.
You should consider upping the quality of the video from 720p to at least 1440p ;)
Thank you my friend for your support.
But here is my problem. Most photos/videos I received, don't have enough size for a Full HD video(or higher). I could make my videos in Full HD resolution. But the image quality would bad. That is why I prefer to work with 720p. :) Cheers.
@RACER TV just a suggestion have a search for AI image upscale, you can upscale lossless to HD resolutions ;)
Its like a Vitpilen 401
the rims runied they whole look, but of He change the rims I don't responsible for your headache...as a builder you must responsible for your own build, be tuff like Tony Strak
Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.
those exhaust pipes will burn your side shins for sure...
Why the robot voice?
Unfortunately, things are more complicated than most people may think. I use this "robotic" voice created by software, because I'm Portuguese, and my bad English accent (and voice), can ruin the documentary character that I like for my videos. I already tried a real British voice in one of my videos, and, surprisingly, almost everyone hated it.
The good news is that I have already found a perfect artificial voice for my channel, which is very realistic in the emotion with which it speaks every word. Try to hear it on this link: th-cam.com/video/hJXW3zS07hk/w-d-xo.html :) Cheers.
Heat from the engine with a high mileage will be unbearable heat

:) Cheers.
@@RACER_TV I am happy you found a solution. I didn't. I just checked and my carbs were a bit different, like in the old CM 400. Cheers.
@@30035XD hi, you need to get in touch with "sigma jet " people, they will make the exactly sets of jets that you need (very affordable btw)
