i knew that ryuga was going to win but I don't understand how. He countered king's special move by going from his attack mode to his weaker state, and not even using his ultimate move. As far as I can tell, ryuga was getting absolutely clapped but then he started screaming dbz style and one shotted king, one of the most bs endings from my childhood tbh

There is still a confusion here. Did ryuga actually use his special or ultimate move. Normally we see a beys logo shine before engaging in a special move but here it was shining just for changing modes.
Neither. He just overpowered king. Before hand he was just messing around. Then he decided to get serious. You got to remember ryuga is used to just messing around and beating opponents because he’s just that powerful. But he realized he wouldn’t beat king messing around so he was like forget this and change modes to release some of his power. I think he was battling in stamina mode.
