      Effing great video. Right to the point. I'm a little baffled the game accepts such generic file types as .png for textures (Project Cars requires .DDS iirc, making things a little more complicated). Maybe that's just a "happy accident" due to UE4. My guess would be that Kunos can't allow custom liveries in a licensed game, but can also hardly change/remove the way the game accesses textures. Hopefully this won't get patched. There are some stunning liveries in the game, but self-made ones are on another level.

    • @Boonatix
      @Boonatix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I as well hope it will not get patched, and that they build up on this with maybe an official editor or something... maybe also for MP... but there is the issue with some types of people who might do pretty gruesome or obscene liveries just for the fun of it :(

    Just my personal opinion, and KS is obviously free to do whatever they feel is in their best interest, but I believe that self-expression is a powerful motivator. Obviously, they felt it important enough to provide a means for the competitors of the eSRO series to do so (obviously due to sponsorship considerations), but it would be a good PR move to adopt an approach similar to iRacing - make the means available, and allow some 3rd party to take on the challenge of providing a solution to share custom liveries, free of any potential liability upon themselves. I personally think that what Trading Paints has done with iRacing, not to mention iRacing's effort to facilitate their approach (easy way to identify competitors, on-demand refresh of textures when new files are downloaded, etc.) is very commendable.
    Anyway, thanks for sharing! It looks like their texturing engine will certainly open up some imagination once this gets in the hands of more and more artists... I just hope that in the end, KS allows them to carry on. 😁

    Great tutorial! Your explanation was simple and effective, thank you for your time. Really is a shame though that despite all the effort one can put into creating a work of art, the game can't display it for all to admire. I'm pretty sure it is possible for a multiplayer server to fetch the design from your game files automatically if only Kunos would implement it. If I remember correctly, many years ago when I played Forza Motorsport on console, you could make liveries limited only by your own imagination and they would be seen in multiplayer. Who knows, perhaps in time to come when whatever legalities allow it, we will get to do this.

    • @Boonatix

      Thank you! Unfortunately not visible... that is why you can opt in to use a standard base layer with a base color / detail so it at least looks the part in MP. It is only visible if the texture folders are provided on the MP server, like they do for the eSRO events.

    you don't need to create the liveries folder or the base .json. After making the basic skin with the in-game painter and save it. Open the new .json and add the name of the folder you want. reload your car in-game and ACC will create the folder and two .json files...

    Have you noticed some issues with custom liveries since 1.8? Looks like ACC is now created DDS files alongside the PNGs, however the colour conversion is wrong in the DDS files - colours are washed out.
    EDIT: there are two new things in 1.8 which I was kind of mixing together:
    1: DDS files created automatically - this might turn out to be awesome if it eliminates the lag spikes when joining - needs some more testing.
    2: If PNG files are 8-bit indexed colour then the colours are messed up in ACC. Not an issue with other PNG compression methods, so not a widespread problem :-)

    Hello your tutorial really helpes me out 😉 can I just ask why even though I'm using chrome template the overall color in game doesn't really look shiny? I don't mean the basic carbon color 😉 Do I have to add like chrome effect in photoshop then?

      You mean, you adapted the .json file with the material properties but it does not change or show up like it should? Might be that the .json is corrupt, you can download one of my custom liveries and use that .json in there as they should work :)

    • @Boonatix
      @Boonatix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, just do not change to the 99 base layer design and use a base design that you select ingame... and set all the 3 colors to black or white :) Than the game always takes this as base and you can put your design on top.

No matter, which color I choose, the car always appears the same as the default for a given car template. Is this a bug or there is a setting that I might've missed. This happens when you use 99 base carbon layer :) If you go ingame the showroom, and switch the design template then to 2 or 3 or 4... or whatever, you can again change color!

    • @Boonatix
      @Boonatix  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you work with the showroom as layers you can even achieve more depending on the car design you select... :) There are 3 layers in showroom you can do with different mats, and then layer a custom sponsors texture over it ... so 4 in total :) Or you go with one uniform showroom layer and then decals and sponsor custom layers.

    This is what i looking for! Thank you so much! Recently i tried to add some sponsors to my Aston Martin vantage 2019. is it okay to put logos directly on decals.png file? Because I prefer to use the in-game custom colours without any change. My problem is my logos weren't on their exact position, for example if I put sponsor on the left door, the actual livery in the game showing it somewhere else on the side of the car. any idea how to fix it? ( i saved my decals file in resolution 2048x2048, was this correct?)

      You should work then only with sponsors.png if you want to keep the base ingame design, decals.png is usually there to replace that.

    Stefan, is there a way of painting the wheel. When carbon "99" base is applied it takes the colour off of wheels. I guess I could paint over a game paint but I like having the option of carbon parts on some paints.

    • @Boonatix
      @Boonatix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you take the 99 base layer it is not possible to edit rim colors :( you have to go with base ingame layer design then.

    hey @Boonatix do you know of anyway to reposition or remove the number board on the sides or hood? is there anyway to change the position of the car number on the rear or remove it? I also noticed that if I save the .png file under "decals.png" in the games folder, it keeps the games sponsor decals (Pirelli, 505 game, emergency shut off location decals, etc etc) Even if I remove the layer group entirely in GIMP/Photoshop the in game sponsor decals remain. However if I save it under the file name "sponsors.png" they do not appear. Am I misunderstanding something?

    • @Boonatix
      @Boonatix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately you cannot reposition number boards they are hardcoded, you could use the 99 base carbon layer which will get rid of the number plate on the hood. As for the decals.png you discovered that right, it is always below the usual stickers that the game has... if you wanna get rid of them you have to either put all in sponsors.png and only use this layer, or use both in combination :)

    Hello! Very nice Tutorial. I did a couple of liveries and now i saw your video. I have one question. In online the others can't see the liveries that we create right? But if we paint only one color and leave the base car like the basic livery in the game. Then in multiplayer they don't see the color we add?

    • @Boonatix
      @Boonatix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As soon as you have your own custom .png livery file, players in MP will not see that. They only see the base color / base design you put in :) At least for now... that is why at eSRO events, the drivers have to send in their custom .png livery files for review and implementation to the servers.
