    This just shows that metal is universal. We have Mongol metal now, Arab metal, Japanese metal, Indian metal, there's an NZ Maori metal band. Metal taps into deep emotions all humans share.

      Exactly. Metal is for everyone. It's there for everyone to shape it and own it.
      There is alien metal FFS. African style metal makes so much sense in every fucking way!

      I know what it is, as a black metalhead^^. Once a black dude told me "Oh you're mixed (white father) that's why you listen to metal!" WTF are you saying man? I really don't see the connexion, my father HATES metal music and doesn't even listen to rock 'n roll xD he likes disco!!!
      "You do like white people" So boring... I would answer "If you say to any black metalhead he tries to be white, then YOU have a problem with being black. Ever seen a white dude saying other white men hey you try to be black? I don't think so!"

    I am Motswana and it's absolutely lovely to hear things from your point of view. I think another reason we don't learn about this subculture is coz of fear, we are afraid of approaching and asking questions to help us better understand you. And mostly because like you said you are crazy, we never know what to expect. I've seen for instance walking in station ' leRock' as we have come to know them walking dragging the biggest chain and people quickly moving out his way looking both both amazed and scared. One other time, instead of pushing a shopping cart he carried it and put It on his shoulder and carried on shopping. It's very odd but also very interesting and I sincerely hope to learn more.

    Here’s my 2 cents. Just a quick thought about what the drummer woman said: if you are playing metal music, you don’t really have to worry about getting your music into the mainstream, like on radio stations, for instance. People know what kind of music is on the radio already, and if they are choosing to listen to a radio station, then they are generally wanting to listen to music that is always played on the radio. The target audience for metal music is usually best reached via the internet.
    So in my opinion, they don’t need to worry about mainstream radio play, but instead they should be promoting their music through various internet sites (social media/metal forums). That’s the best way to reach an audience who really wants to listen to metal.
    I know, personally, I just searched African Metal on TH-cam, and I came across this video. So that’s a perfect example. I seek specific genres of music through the internet and that’s just how it works with any music style that is not promoted on radio stations. And I’m fairly certain it’s pretty much like that in every country to a certain extent.
    I am a living example of my point I just made. I would never expect to hear music like this on the radio, but I find lots of great music on the internet. It’s amazing.

      Metal at this point is pretty mainstream but not in the sense you would think: people KNOW what Metal sounds like, regardless if we go for more the Hard Rock/Early Sabbath style or Death Metal stuff... Goth, Grunge, Indie etc are straight up unknown by the masses! Say what you want about Metal, but it's something that almost anyone can reconize

    this is so fucking awesome. metal transcends race, transcends borders. Africa is a treasure of culture, history, and passion. I think Sepultura should tour there and bring more attention to these bands and the scenes down there. It makes sense that Africa would actually embrace metal, particularly the heavier genres since there has been alot of strife, and rape of their culture. makes for a lot of creative avenues of intergrating local instruments, much the way Sepultura did with their Chaos A.D. and Roots albums and beyond. love this.

    I can see this growing. Everything is cross fertilization to begin with, and the thing about music is, even despite radio stations and record companies and the domination of western music traditions and all that, music is a handicraft, not industrial manufacturing. It's different whenever new players pick up instruments. So it's always creating new cultural authenticity and letting people express their town, their suburb, their village, their roots and their faith.

    NWOAHM!!! Horns from Shreveport, LA, USA! I love seeing that this is happening. Good luck to all those bands and the ones unheard of... I will go to any show you do in the South of the U.S. if y'all ever get to tour here.

    Rock 'n roll is sparse in Africa. I live in South Africa and I know. It is never played on the radio or on tv. There is generally no support for it. Pop, Hip hop dominate and most of it is just regurgitated soul less garbage. I wish we had a radio station dedicated to rock' n roll. Punks and metalheads need to unite and start bringing this scene back to life here. I remember back in the day going to watch local bands all the time. Now days we are parched for this type of entertainment. Yes rock 'n roll will always live in our hearts, but we need to get the message out, others need to be exposed to it because I remember my teen years, it sucked and when I heard Bad Religion - Stranger than Fiction for the first time it changed my life.

    As someone who loves metal, they sound a lot like the hair bands of the 80s, maybe a bit like Maiden. Don't get me wrong, those are lots of fun, and I'm all for more bands making more music, but I think they have a lot of work to do finding their own sound.

      +Umi's Field Day I disagree. Sort of. Although the riffs are in standard metal intervals found in all metal, their phrasing and sense of timing are unique. It's kind of jazzy and slow. To me it sounds more stoner than American hair bands. I agree it needs to evolve but give it 5-10 years and I bet there will be great bands coming out of Africa. It's really new over there.

      I didn't pick up anything hair band-ish from it. Classic 80s metal, yeah, but no hair band shit whatsoever.

      +Nikos Tsakas Jr. you should take a trip back in time and try to explore death/heavy metal roots.

    • @NikkElektrik
      @NikkElektrik 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I have. This definitely heavy metal music, but not of the death metal subgenre. Morbid Angel, Death, Autopsy, early CC, that's death metal's roots, and they don't sound like that. The band is, just not DM as seeker implies for the sake of clickbait.

    • @garrettodonnell4177
      @garrettodonnell4177 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Nikos Tsakas Jr. Overthrust is definitely death metal. I don't know what band's music is playing in the background but it isn't them.

      +Garrett O'Donnell So they used another band's music in this video? Why!?!
      i agree with Nikos that it isn't death metal, it's 70s black sabbath / deep purple metal, maybe with psychedelic influence.

    • @djn48
      @djn48 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say the music in this video is like Iron Maiden crossed with bits of mid-1980s thrash. It's not death metal but it's quite good. They have about 30 years of metal history to catch up on...
