I have learned alot and continue to learn from The Diesel Podcast, Thanks Patrick ...Every vehicle i own , new or used, gets that original owner love......a year ago I bought a 4th gen 6.7, eventhough the dealer had just did the engine oil and fuel filters,I went ahead and re did all that stuff, also took it a step further and serviced every component that uses a lubricating oil aswell as adjusted valves, replaced the FCA, and two injectors, its finally purring like a kitten, my wife doesnt understand why i spent over 2k on a truck i just bought, but boy i sure do sleep better at night 😁

At the 30min mark, I completely get it. LOL I have had customers complain about a turbo failure and said they ALWAYS change their filter and it ALWAYS clean. Meanwhile a week later you see the same kid with a picture on FB with his hood up asking a question about something completely unrelated and the air filter looks like it hadn't been changed 10 years. SMH....
What he said 8:00 is exactly proper. Bought our '16 6.7PS with only 21k in '20 and Carfax showed a dealer services done. But i didnt trust it, so i did oil, filter and fuel filters the first week.
Piece of mind and started MY maintenance routine from Zero
The best thing you can do is keep factory size tires on your truck . Because when you change tire size to something bigger you are changing the gear ratio and putting extra strain on your drive line.
My 92 12 valve had not many gauges and when towing my camper in the mountains. All I had was water temp gauge and that gauge would set a the 1/4 mark and when towing up hill I would just watch the temp gauge and when gauge would get at the 12 o’clock mark I would drop a gear in my 5 speed manual and temp would fall back to the 1/4 mark and this worked for me .
I waited for a long time marking a lift pump in the fuel tank for cooling the pump and I didn’t want a pump hangs on the frame. So when Fleece came out with their twin gear motor pumps and it was great and one thing that is great was that one motor hooked up to factory wiring harness and second pump cam with its own harness with fuse and switch so if one would go out you can just get her home no problem and still had more pressure than the factory pump. And this pump at idle would do 21 lbs and with one had 10-12 psi and I had a gauge on my truck before I got the new pump that read 5 psi at idle and sometimes 0 at hard pull .
"if the computers okay with it i'm okay with it" i've seen far too many of these types of people. with computers most of everyone knows they don't make mistakes. they only do what they're told to do by reading sets of instructions (tunes) and if the instructions aren't that good. then its going to die. but the computer didn't do anything wrong.
It's funny alot will say use the exhaust brake everytime it's drivin. Iys new knowledge to hear that it will create head gasket issues. I can see that happening because of the extreme pressure the exhaust brake creates.
I have had 2 new Dodges 5.9 and both were manuals and I haul cars for GM and started this when I was 23 yrs old. The wrench man told me back then that there are 2 things to kill a diesels and it’s rpm’s and heat . That’s why I drive manuals it’s just what truck drivers do and that’s shift gears in 13-10-8 speed transmission and I wish they would make 8 speed trans .
Clean air, clean fuel, clean oil. I buy the Mopar filter, Fleetguard water separator and fine micron filter in a dual arrangement, and I have a washable AFE air filter.
Don’t idle all night at idle RPM. The upper valve train does not get good oiling at idle. Select cruise control on and set at 850 or more.
This is critical because the transportation industry is seeing so many “hot shotters” sleeping & idling in their crew cabs not knowing.

Im a firm believer in getting all the supporting parts before truly adding power that way i have the gauges and monitoring and proper parts idc if it takes a while to get it all i wait because i want to do it right
My work truck is a 2007 4500 has a check engine light for over 200k truck runs great I do check the light every so often it's still the dpf the truck has 390k so it's getting to be time to replace it
My old Dodge 91.5 with the intercooler over 520,000 miles on it I can still go out there in the dead of winter I’m talking 10° 15° weather specially even when the trucker sat for a couple days turn the heat grit on wait to start Lakers out And return the key often do that one more time that engine doesn’t turn over three times and it’s running over 500,000 miles anyway like the man said good quality filtration’s are use Donaldson 7349 filter for my full flow and I use a Donaldson bypass filter and also I use a amsoil synthetic. Also my air filter he’s got the same filtration Element as the M1 Abrams tank. Mira filter is a DBA 5202. It’s nano fiber technology and I can take my that rubber tube off to go to my turbo charger and take a nice clean, white rag and wipe inside of there and it comes out, almost as white as what it when it is virtually no dirt get past that filter that’s a huge thing anyway enjoy your podcast and your guest is very very professional. This is six in a row.Jim from Kennerdell Pennsylvania oh, by the way, my case 580 backhoe got the Cummins in it. Also it’s a super Rall. It starts extremely well in cold weather also.
donaldson filters are great filters. if they're good enough for 20 million dollar military vehicles they're good enough for my 80k truck and my 12k truck.
I got a notice from Dodge on my new 1992 5.9 cummins that to use the dealer oil filter or a good oil filter from a parts store because there has been a lot of cases where the filter comes apart and puts it all threw the engine and starts to clog up oil passages and when it does bad things will happen !
That would be fram. The first fram filters for Cummins were disaterous so after law suits they came out with 9776A. The A was added meaning ADJUSTED. I’ve taken the A apart . Metal caps, no bypass, cellulose filter. Can’t imagine what the previous one was built like. Hopefully not with cardboard end caps pushing 40
W oil at 70psi.

Great discussion, I have a couple of questions. So i am cummins swapping my 08 ford that had a powerstroke, to a 03 common rail. EGT's would be the most important thing to monitor on that generation engine outside of the stock ford gauges, for that motor(all stock)? What is the safest tune for a stock 03 engine for daily too towing, probably towing more than daily?
If you’re running any tune on your Cummins, make sure to get some head studs.

He wanted to say a specific oil filter. The ole orange can of death (Fram). 47rh/re may have been out for 30 years but was never meant to be a diesel transmission. Lots of issues from the factory. It's one of the reasons Dodge changed things with the 48RE.
You are correct on the filter brand.
Yea in factory trim lol who the hell keeps their trans stock? Put a couple hundred bucks into servos, anchor, strut, lever. Add a good converter and a shift kit and it lives all day at 550. Now if you build it with billet shafts, the 48 is bulletproof up to 1k and beyond. Couldn't pay me to swap my Firepunk comp for any Allison. Now if we want to talk about Ford trannys then I would take one of the 5r or 6r's as they are superior imo.
@@joshuaquilliam2887 Plenty of people leave it stock. Not everyone goes down the more power path. I was talking about the 47rh/re. 48 wasn't that good factory either. Can be built into a good trans. I agree. A lot of high hp competition trucks go to a turbo 400 also
At just after the 40:00 mark, the person that was in the interview was talking about red diesel fuel as if it was the issue and originally when I was working on the 7.3 L Powerstroke as a tech myself back in the day when they first came out, I was told that red diesel fuel is not good for the New Orleans either. However, later on I came to find out that the red diesel fuel is not different than the regular diesel fuel in any way shape or form other than they actually add red dye to it in order to separate it from off-road fuel compared to fuel you buy at the pump simply for tax purposes only and nothing more. So, I don't know why this person is bringing up the Red fuel as if it was an issue since there was no difference between it. At least to my knowledge there was no difference. Again, I heard various stories that they were different but then I've also been in discussions online with people saying that they were not different so, I'm not exactly sure what's true and what is not true. I think there needs to be some follow-up on that to verify whether that actually had anything to do with the issues or not. In my case, I worked as a Ford Tech in a small rural community of about 3300 people at the time and we had a ton of farmers in our area so I'm sure they were using their off-road fuel from their farms for their tractors and other pickups and so on because it was obviously cheaper and more convenient to just fill up on the farm. I would like to know if it actually was true if the red diesel fuel was potentially causing a problem or not.
The new Dodge trucks with the light weight block that is 70 lbs lighter are junk the crack and they will make this block for a few years before the change and if you buy one good luck and I would no spend a 100K for that truck .
