No. In the original _Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers_, none of the Rangers had powers when un-morphed. However, all of them had extensive martial-arts training, or extensive gymnastics training in the case of Kimberly, or one was just a natural talent plus had extensive intellectual abilities to read his opponents' attacks (that would be Billy) -- this is what was used to explain how they could fight putties. I'll have to go back to the Episodes where Tommy was losing his powers to see what *exactly* Zordon said.

My memory's a bit fuzzy, sorry. But Power Rangers has weird power scaling at points.My understanding is that they could handle putties and hold their own against MotWs (monsters of the week) without needing to morph. But to 'destroy' the monsters they would need to morph. It's not an ironclad rule but it's been pretty consistent, imo. So unmorphed, they could definitely fight Goldar and inflict damage but probably not to the point of him retreating or needing to grow.
That's what I was thinking, in this very trailer we saw how they were getting pretty roughed up by Rita so that would be one reason to have to morph....Not to mention that Tommy could handle Goldar in the Original series ok enough without even being morphed
Power Rangers was my entire life from 1st to 4th grade (other than WWF/E). This is legit one of my most anticipated movies of 2017. I can't help but see only the positives in the trailer. Even the corniness feels like a homage to my childhood.

You first saw this in Season 3 and the first Power Rangers movie when they acquired the power of Ninjor/Ninjetti and then again in Dino Thunder.
I think this is going to be similar to Pacific Rim. It will not be award ceremony worthy or whatever, but it will be a sit back and enjoy it movie. I hope you know what I am trying to say.

There is a theory that Zordon also used to be the red Ranger millions of years ago. The fact that he has a red tint to him really helps that theory since there is so much color coordination it seems.

Guys, the power outside of the suit is a reference to DINO THUNDER which reMMPR seems to take some influence from. The suit themselves enhances those abilities.

They're taking elements from other seasons and using them for the movie. One element is powers outside the suits. Many seasons had the rangers have civilian powers. I think when they come in contact with the power coin the power in the coin just transfers to them, which happened in another Dinosaur themed season called Dino Thunder.
It might work kind of like Dino thunder where the characters get powers, but only a specific one, and when they morph, the rest of their abilities get powered up.
Considering that the Putties in the movie are literal rock monsters, the power up to their unmorphed selves makes sense. Even in the original Power Rangers the power seemed to boost them as the series went on, in the beginning they couldn't handle putties unmorphed but as the series went on they were able to deal with putties no problem and even stand up to some of the monsters temporarily before needing to morph. The reason they never went straight to the big guns in power rangers is because they were under instructions to only escalate their powers to meet the threat, if putties can be dealt with without morphing, then don't morph. If a monster could be defeated without combining your weapons, then take em out.
Actually, while it wasn't as apparent in the early Zordon era of the Power Rangers, later ranger series clearly established that the Rangers were faster and stronger than normal humans even when they weren't morphed. The later series even gave some of them super powers or magic when demorphed. However, upon morphing all of the rangers natural skills, already enhanced physical traits, and special abilities were then increased 100 fold. And yes their ranger form also acts as armor. This was all true even during the MMPR, but again it just wasn't as obvious (until Lord Zedd came in).
I feel like the big reason for them morphing was so that the can use their giant robots and maybe use weapons. It's like hawkeye without his gear. He's good on his own but the rest is a giant boost
Zach got punched to the wall by a hologram, so even their enhanced abilities only help them to a certain point. Gives us an idea how strong our villains are. Rita even attacks Trini in her own room, so the suits are needed when necessary. Also for their identities sake.
I actually think it's okay that they have enhanced strength without their suits. Mainly because later Power Rangers series gave some of the groups base abilities without morphing. Dino Thunder and SPD are two that come to mind.
To be clear, in the first 3 seasons( what this movie will be based on), they had enhanced abilities. It wasnt ass pronounced as in the movie, but it was there, it is explained in later seasons as the morphing grid flowing through them. Later on it also talks about how weak the rangers feel when they lose their powers and are cut off from the grid.
I think that they only have powers when their power coins are near them and the Suit just enhance that. In one scene Rita was tossing around the yellow ranger like a ragdoll, and she should have been able to atleast try and fight back. I don't think Rita would show up before they find the power coins so she was probably powerless to stop Rita because her stone wasn't on her person.
Well technically every Power Ranger series has given some kind of boost to strength and speed to the Rangers. There were even instances when the Rangers had powers like walking through walls, sonic scream, and cloning (there's more than that, but you get the point). So yeah, Power Rangers have always had enhanced abilities.
This depiction of the Power Rangers' abilities makes sense. In this movie, the Putties look like The Thing from Fantastic 4. Getting hit by one is a guaranteed death without the armor. By holding the power coins, they are granted strength, durability, and possibly speed. When they morph into the Power Rangers, they're given a suit of armor to protect them, of course, but maybe the armor enhances their abilities even more. I hope they address how they're capable fighters though because in the original TV show, the 5 are either gifted martial artists or gymnasts. When you think about it, they are able to fight the Putties no problem without morphing in the TV show, which kinda ruins it, to me at least.
In the original series most of the rangers had martial arts skill, they had prior training, so they were able to hold their own. In this one it seems that non of them have any training outside of Jason playing sports. So if they didn't have this power boost they would never be able to hold their own in person against the putties, which seem to be made of a harder material than the original series. These kids are put into action almost immediately so I understand the whole powers thing. It's not like they have superpowers, they just have enhanced stamina, strength, and such.
the green ranger power coin is in reta's staff so yeah she would have been green ranger and i think at the end of this movie we will see a new student show up and say hi im tommy
Well, lets assume this, after watching the trailer. When the putties come up the first time, they, or Zack to be specific, becomes smashed because he doesn't take it seriously. We don't see them wacking the putties in their normal forms but once they morph Billy recks one of the putties. So I assume, they are strong in their unmorphed human forms, but are even stronger in their morphed forms. They obviously still need to call their Zords when they are fighting Goldy or whatever big monster they have to fight.

The suits to me act as a better focus for their heighten Strength. Like as you noticed in the trailer when the Black Ranger got smacked without the suit Yeah he has super strength which helps him fight without morphing but that doesnt help him avoid stuff so the armor enhances their senses, Hand eye coordination, and Reflexes as well as it protects them as if it was armor. But thats my own little theory not saying its right or wrong just something i noticed after watching seasons like Mystic Force, SPD, Dino Thunder and Dino Charge.
Im going to go ahead and make an assumption that Rita has something to do with the Green Ranger since it looks like she has the green power coin in her staff. Maybe has him imprisoned or something, also Saban said they wanted to switch up the original formula from the suit giving them their powers to the coins themselves giving them their powers. I feel like the morphin part will be a question of protection. When you look at the part where they are training with the hologram, the black ranger is hit and projected to the side. So even if they have strengh i think they need the suit either to give them protection against the puddies or simply to help them mastering their powers [when they fight in the suits they look like they are at the same level as the puddies] I agree with the rita = ex green ranger. when you look at her staff she has what looks like a green power coin

I would say it's more of a nod to seasons like Ninja Storm, SPD, Dino Thunder and all the other Disney era seasons who gave the rangers unmorphed powers.
Morphing Time is not putting on a suit. It is the complete morphological form aka full Power Ranger mode. the moment the have and access the coins their bodies are no longer just human. All this time ppl say "Morph" but not really grasping the fact.
What if the whole power thing in the new movie is reversed. In the original they were skilled fighters unmorphed, but when they did morph they gained the strength and abilities. But, in the movie they start off stonger/faster, but when they morph they gain the fighthing knowledge.
The first power rangers i ever watched was the ninja storm. I can tell you all that from there on, the rangers used to have one special power even when they weren't morphed on. So it's nothing new to me. For example - in dino thunder, red one had speed, yellow had ultrasonic scream n blue had toughness (his skin used to toughen up) due to special dino gems they found, even when they weren't morphed in. Then dino gems were used as cores in their morphers and morphers amplified their dino powers. Same way in ninja storm, the red ranger could bend air, blue could bend water n yellow could bend earth (without morphing). That was due to their element. With morphers, their respective abilities used to amplify.
also the morphing powers and suit allows for them to sync they fighting powers and know what they partners are doing almost like the quote become as one like how it is when they zords combine and they they become as one body as a team though. like for example if you research they morphing grid powers all rangers get faster speed, super strength, able to use all they previously known ranger powers who was them from before any new ranger gets them like how Billy in show was a punk but when he morphed he knew karate and had courage and everything else like his enhanced tech skills when morphed and so on.
Time Force was my favorite season and if they made a movie out of it, I'd shove my through everybody to sit in the theater and see it Ludacris style "Move bitch, get out the way!" ;)

Even in the original Power Rangers the power seemed to boost them as the series went on, in the beginning they couldn't handle putties unmorphed but as the series went on they were able to deal with putties no problem and even stand up to some of the monsters temporarily before needing to morph.
The reason they never went straight to the big guns in power rangers is because they were under instructions to only escalate their powers to meet the threat, if putties can be dealt with without morphing, then don't morph. If a monster could be defeated without combining your weapons, then take em out.
Actually, while it wasn't as apparent in the early Zordon era of the Power Rangers, later ranger series clearly established that the Rangers were faster and stronger than normal humans even when they weren't morphed. The later series even gave some of them super powers or magic when demorphed. However, upon morphing all of the rangers natural skills, already enhanced physical traits, and special abilities were then increased 100 fold. And yes their ranger form also acts as armor. This was all true even during the MMPR, but again it just wasn't as obvious (until Lord Zedd came in).
The Power Rangers are superhuman no matter what, the suits amplify those powers to greater heights. theyre not for show the suits have actual purpose.
It might be like spiderman where they don't want to fight without their suits because they might be keeping it as another identity
I feel like the big reason for them morphing was so that the can use their giant robots and maybe use weapons. It's like hawkeye without his gear. He's good on his own but the rest is a giant boost
Zach got punched to the wall by a hologram, so even their enhanced abilities only help them to a certain point. Gives us an idea how strong our villains are. Rita even attacks Trini in her own room, so the suits are needed when necessary. Also for their identities sake.
I actually think it's okay that they have enhanced strength without their suits. Mainly because later Power Rangers series gave some of the groups base abilities without morphing. Dino Thunder and SPD are two that come to mind.
The green Power coin is in Rita's staff in the trailer. So she is drawing power from it.

To be clear, in the first 3 seasons( what this movie will be based on), they had enhanced abilities. It wasnt ass pronounced as in the movie, but it was there, it is explained in later seasons as the morphing grid flowing through them. Later on it also talks about how weak the rangers feel when they lose their powers and are cut off from the grid.
I think that they only have powers when their power coins are near them and the Suit just enhance that. In one scene Rita was tossing around the yellow ranger like a ragdoll, and she should have been able to atleast try and fight back. I don't think Rita would show up before they find the power coins so she was probably powerless to stop Rita because her stone wasn't on her person.
Well technically every Power Ranger series has given some kind of boost to strength and speed to the Rangers. There were even instances when the Rangers had powers like walking through walls, sonic scream, and cloning (there's more than that, but you get the point). So yeah, Power Rangers have always had enhanced abilities.

This depiction of the Power Rangers' abilities makes sense. In this movie, the Putties look like The Thing from Fantastic 4. Getting hit by one is a guaranteed death without the armor. By holding the power coins, they are granted strength, durability, and possibly speed. When they morph into the Power Rangers, they're given a suit of armor to protect them, of course, but maybe the armor enhances their abilities even more. I hope they address how they're capable fighters though because in the original TV show, the 5 are either gifted martial artists or gymnasts. When you think about it, they are able to fight the Putties no problem without morphing in the TV show, which kinda ruins it, to me at least.
You could argue that you might as well morph straight at the fight, but they are trying to show more of the characters outside the suit and to fight

In the original series most of the rangers had martial arts skill, they had prior training, so they were able to hold their own. In this one it seems that non of them have any training outside of Jason playing sports. So if they didn't have this power boost they would never be able to hold their own in person against the putties, which seem to be made of a harder material than the original series. These kids are put into action almost immediately so I understand the whole powers thing. It's not like they have superpowers, they just have enhanced stamina, strength, and such.

Well, lets assume this, after watching the trailer. When the putties come up the first time, they, or Zack to be specific, becomes smashed because he doesn't take it seriously. We don't see them wacking the putties in their normal forms but once they morph Billy recks one of the putties. So I assume, they are strong in their unmorphed human forms, but are even stronger in their morphed forms. They obviously still need to call their Zords when they are fighting Goldy or whatever big monster they have to fight.

The suits to me act as a better focus for their heighten Strength. Like as you noticed in the trailer when the Black Ranger got smacked without the suit Yeah he has super strength which helps him fight without morphing but that doesnt help him avoid stuff so the armor enhances their senses, Hand eye coordination, and Reflexes as well as it protects them as if it was armor. But thats my own little theory not saying its right or wrong just something i noticed after watching seasons like Mystic Force, SPD, Dino Thunder and Dino Charge.

Im going to go ahead and make an assumption that Rita has something to do with the Green Ranger since it looks like she has the green power coin in her staff. Maybe has him imprisoned or something, also Saban said they wanted to switch up the original formula from the suit giving them their powers to the coins themselves giving them their powers. The suits enhance their power further
I feel like the morphin part will be a question of protection.
When you look at the part where they are training with the hologram, the black ranger is hit and projected to the side. So even if they have strengh i think they need the suit either to give them protection against the puddies or simply to help them mastering their powers [when they fight in the suits they look like they are at the same level as the puddies]

I'm glad they have powers without their suits. As a kid I always questioned why they became strong when they put on a costume. Thought it was stupid...

also i think having the suits on is expensive because of the cgi or whatever so having base powers allows for more action scenes !

I would say it's more of a nod to seasons like Ninja Storm, SPD, Dino Thunder and all the other Disney era seasons who gave the rangers unmorphed powers.
Morphing Time is not putting on a suit. It is the complete morphological form aka full Power Ranger mode. the moment the have and access the coins their bodies are no longer just human. All this time ppl say "Morph" but not really grasping the fact.

What if the whole power thing in the new movie is reversed. In the original they were skilled fighters unmorphed, but when they did morph they gained the strength and abilities. But, in the movie they start off stonger/faster, but when they morph they gain the fighthing knowledge.

The first power rangers i ever watched was the ninja storm. I can tell you all that from there on, the rangers used to have one special power even when they weren't morphed on. So it's nothing new to me. For example - in dino thunder, red one had speed, yellow had ultrasonic scream n blue had toughness (his skin used to toughen up) due to special dino gems they found, even when they weren't morphed in. Then dino gems were used as cores in their morphers and morphers amplified their dino powers. Same way in ninja storm, the red ranger could bend air, blue could bend water n yellow could bend earth (without morphing). That was due to their element. With morphers, their respective abilities used to amplify.

also the morphing powers and suit allows for them to sync they fighting powers and know what they partners are doing almost like the quote become as one like how it is when they zords combine and they they become as one body as a team though. like for example if you research they morphing grid powers all rangers get faster speed, super strength, able to use all they previously known ranger powers who was them from before any new ranger gets them like how Billy in show was a punk but when he morphed he knew karate and had courage and everything else like his enhanced tech skills when morphed and so on.
Time Force was my favorite season and if they made a movie out of it, I'd shove my through everybody to sit in the theater and see it Ludacris style "Move bitch, get out the way!" ;)
Random thought but this felt very much like Chronicle and I would love if they somehow tied those two universes together.
