The Battlestar Galactica was a true workhorse, and is directly responsible for the survival of humanity, all after her retirement date . Red Dwarf is so massive it has a small moon embedded in it that got pulled out of orbit by it's own gravity, and instead of removing it, the Jupiter Mining Corporation decided it was more cost effective to just build around it and mine any valuable resources it might contain. It's so massive you can tell by the changing architectural styles which decade that particular section was built in.

How is the Destiny from StarGate not on this list?
A ship that survived for millions of years ( at least 5 million, with most agreeing that it’s 50 million years old ) without any maintenance or crew and was still functioning at nearly 40% of its original parameters is unheard of in most other sci-fi universes.
It has programmable adaptive shields, a psionic quasi sentient A.I. to shepherd it and it flies through goddam stars to recharge its energy reserves.

It is believed to have been launched from Earth, at least 50 million years ago. That’s based on its tech being at least as old as anything in the Milkyway. The oldest Milkyway gate for instance, was both 50 million years old and more advanced than the ones used by the Destiny and deployed by the seed ships. Similarly with its chair vs the mental download device thing. Atlantis and the base in Antarctica on the other hand, is both newer and more advanced than just about anything else in the Milkyway of Ancient design, and was left Earth for the Pegasus galaxy a few million years ago.

      @eds1942 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@yazanmowed I don’t want to argue but. It’s on Star Gate Commands wiki, brought up in season 2, and writers confirmed it. Though they list it as being at least 60 million years old, and having Atlantis original built around 30 million (Edit: The plague happened 5 mil bc), so take it for what you will.
(Edit: Most of the dates were taken from SG1 with SGU linking the Destiny with the Seed Ships)
I think what they were going for was to play with the idea that perhaps “humans” really did walk with dinosaurs without actually saying that the Ancients were on Earth back then. I mean if Ancients had arrived on Earth 5 or more million years earlier, then you’d be tempted to ask if the Ancient were also responsible for extinction of the dinosaurs?
And, on the time scale of the Universe, even 100 million years is like a few minutes compared to how long the ingredients for life have been around, and we have at least a trillion, trillion years before the last stars are born and the Universe begins to go dark, and 10^70 or something before the last energy sources dry up unless vacuum energy is a thing. So in theory, civilization in some form (probably via virtual uploading into simulations) could still be kicking until then. Heck, civilizations arising while the first red dwarfs (the more massive ones have life span of about a trillion years) are just starting to get old could easily look back and be right for thinking of us as being one of the First Ones (relatively) born practically just short of the Big Bang.

@@molybdaen11 tbh I think that writing inconsistencies did more hamr there than plot armor/late seasons mythical shenanigans.
And when I say writing inconsistencies I mean quite a number of ship features that writers only remembered they exist when they wanted to use them as obstacle for protagonists.
Two examples that immediatelly pops to mind:
      1. Internal defence system - so many things in the series should not even have possibility to happen just by merit of this one existing, that writers "forgot" about to let plot happen (with most stark example being one time when Dylan literally orders venting whole ship atmosphere to get rid of boarders, instead of haing internal defence system engages as soon as buggers started boarding.
      2. Remember like second or third episode in the season that has whole episode running on the idea that particle storm is approaching to hit the station they were at, and them have to fix something/shield field generator to prevent that storm from shredding ship to pieces? (and not having funds for spare parts to do it) The only other time that particular field get's ever mentioned again is when they fired at the golden derelict heritage class cruiser (forgot her name, the one that had romance with captain and went nuts when ordered to self-destroy), intending to disable it, but instead whole ship went boom. And they mentioned her disabling that thing just before impact as explanation for just one missile destroying whole ship. and that' it, thing never get's mentioned again and to this days trekkers are like "andromeda had no shields, so phasorz would just cut her up into bits"
And there were more inconsistencies like that, most of the time screwing consistency to allow plot to happen :/
Imo those did way most damage to whole series

Also, almost every episode involved an extinction-level event that threatened to destroy the ship, and merely changing vectors caused sizable amounts of the population to become wall ketchup.
No, the Sidonia was the opposite of tough. It was an amazing ship that survived incredible situations... but those situations are ones that the other ships on this list would have laughed at. It was a victim of its universe's greater realism.

That's not exactly accurate. While Starfleet ships are designed to amplify the natural Plot Armor of their bridge officers (hence why the bridge is always in a strategically awful location) the ships themselves don't generate Plot Armor. Natural Plot Armor is one of the qualities they test for at Star Fleet Academy, though, so the officers will always have some for the ship to amplify.

Battlestars are designed to withstand numerous direct nuclear detonations without shields.

The Axiom from 'Wall-E' joins the list for me.
Not because she's the toughest ship in creation, but because she stayed in perfect working order for hundreds of years due to the continual efforts of her robotic crew.
The only thing truly wrong with her was that haphazardly issued final Directive from Earth. Aside from that the Axiom completed her mission and likely brought the biolabs with her needed to restore the Earth - as was seen in the movie's credit scene.

Not only can every single ship self replicate, but they are faster than light speed travel. Each ship is equipped with nuclear bombs, rail guns, lasers and much more.

I have actually done the calculations. To breach the shields of a Sovereign class Reaper capital ship, it's stated that you need 4 Dreadnoughts (Mass Effect Battleships) attacking it at once. Through some calculated guesses on the difference in firepower between a Dreadnought and Cruiser, I have calculated that in the absence of Dreadnoughts, you would need 12 to 16 Cruisers. Based on further calculations, human fleets only have on average a Dreadnought, 16 Cruisers and 80 Frigates. Meaning that one Reaper requires an entire fleet to destroy it. On the other hand, a Reaper can destroy any ship in the galaxy with a single hit from their main gun and their 11 secondary weapons can each destroy ships at least as large as a Cruiser with a single hit. And to top it all off, Reaper cannons fire once every 5 seconds

Starfleet definitely built in a lot of fail-safes and redundancies into their ships, which really shows when the writers don't forget about them. But I'm not sure that makes them tough as a rule. Starfleet shipwrights had a habit of adding explodium to the hulls and consoles of their ships, and placing rocks around the bridge to fall in the command whenever they entered combat. It wasn't until the Dominion War that Starfleet started adding armor to their ships, up until then if you can get ahold of the shield frequency, you can bypass all the defenses of even a flagship and destroy it in one go.
Now, later Federation ships? Probably. I'm not sure how tough the Sovereign Class really is, but the Defiant Class is limited by its size. Even over-packed for its size, the original Defiant still ended up destroyed within a few years of being commissioned.

      @@christopherg2347 Here's why I don't buy that excuse.
      1) the amount of power running through those consoles is excessive. If my cell phone catches fire, it's because of the battery, those consoles don't need batteries. They only need to be the a touch screen, display and input, and the ship's computer can handle the rest.
      2) Building those consoles in such a way as to contain and redirect any problems in them away from the rest of the bridge and into the floor would be an excellent explanation for why they're hard-placed into their locations. They should have safeties that wouldn't even require breaking the circuit, and therefore wouldn't be disabled by battleshorts.
      3) The consoles are much less vital to mission success than the officers running them. There is no reason that each console couldn't be configured to take the role of a situationally more important console. The skilled helmsman or tactical officer using it, on the other hand, is a more finite resource.
But that's just my thoughts. I'm sure there's a reason why, in the 24th century, all of that doesn't matter, and battleshorts that disable vital ship's personnel are a necessary design feature.
