surprised nobody seems the advantages of the rubber mats. They keep the drone far away, and explode them into the rubber which slowly takes the forces of the explosion and dampens it. In most cases it would probably not even destroy the rubber. Shape charges are probably more of an issue and I'm not sure how anything can deal with them.
Rubber mats are perhaps the best simple solution to shaped charges. There is some basic physics that results in shaped charges losing a lot of effectiveness when a rubber mat is between the target and warhead. so yeah,... pretty crazy stuff, but kind of cool too.
@@MCMXLVI Yes but this all complicates everything and makes it much more expensive to use these weapons. You simply can't fly a $50 drone into the tank, you need a much more rare and expensive weapon. Then you need to deploy many of these expensive weapons all over the front so they are available, making it much more complicated and expensive to do just that.
This will end up being a complete waste of time. The drones will continue to aim for the gap between the turret and the body of the tank or the engine.
And the effect of the rubber mats? Nothing at all. The Western weapons are designed to ignore anything like this and punch straight through. The T90 tank is terrible anyway. Rubber has a passive reactive effect against shaped charge warheads. Not sure why, but it does.
It does, in non-reactive armour (NERA) but it has to have something solid (like steel) behind it.
Back in ww2 Germany put rubber coating on their tanks to keep it to where magnetic charges wouldn't stick to them
In ww3, people could use superglue to stick on the charges. There are even glue that could stick to teflon - that's how pans are made.
The problem is Russia is still using the WW2 playbook in 2024. Rubber isn’t fooling laser, computer or video/visual systems.
