Great video Peter! You explained and demonstrated the degradation of fine motor skills caused by a raised heart rate from exertion or nerves very well. This is seldom covered. "We won't be any good at it unless we train" .... spot on! "Train hard, hunt easy(er)!" All the best, and good hunting, Bob
Hi Hilldog, thank you. We all have an ego, the trick is to put it aside, besides it's not about me. It's about the deer and deer hunting and working towards a better understanding and future for both. Cheers, PS. I like your work.
Another great informative presentation.I’ve also paid the price for having a shouldered rifle while deer hunting. My sling now stays in the pack til needed.Cheers, Rob.
@@SambarHuntersEdge-lf2qq hey thinkin about material, binoculars and glassing ,, water , footwear, maybe snake gaiters if you use them , map reading ,compass directions etc if you use them , cheers mate
One spanner in the works when it comes to practice is the buck fever element A way to simulate that is competition shooting when you got others looking over your shoulder Great vid
Good video. People always saying how big the samber vitals are. Then they think the same applys to fallow. Great follow up info there mate. There is a big obsession starting tho shooting samber long range across gullys. Im not a fan of that at all. All mine have been taken within 150
Thank you, Jetty. As for a recommended caliber for sambar hunting at moderate ranges out to 150/200 meters, I would suggest a 30/06. with a 180 grain projectile. (Discussing suitable calibers for sambar always opens a can of worms.) Presently I use a .270 Winchester, a 308 Winchester or a 30/06. I have found them all adequate. When deciding what I will use the choice is based on the rifle not the caliber. eg. wet conditions I choose the 308 W because it is stainless steel and plastic.
@@SambarHuntersEdge-lf2qq Thanks Pete. 75mm seems awful small, but 75mm at 25 yards is 225mm at 75 yards, so maybe not so small in terms of where we need to be offhand🙂
@@iainkemp3274 Iain, now that you've done the math's you can see why if we can hit it at 25/30 yards it's only a short step to hit the big gong at 100.

Thanks Bob. "This is seldom covered." As you noted. That is what I am hoping to explore, themes and subjects that are seldom covered. Regards Peter.
Good stuff lots of lessons I wish I learnt 10 years ago!
Like most sambar hunters, I learnt the hard way. Sambar hunting is full of lessons, and I'm still learning. Good hunting.
As a hunter and a shooter, that video is bloody legendary and the some of the best advice for new shooters,.... well done.
Thank you Slade. Like so many of us, I learnt the hard way. Come to think about it, I'm still learning.
I dunno about You man.... You make too much sense! ;) really enjoying your content , again... no egos, just real talk.

love your vids, can't wait for the next one!
Thank you, got a couple in the pipeline. Good hunting.

Rob, there are a lot of us in that sling club. It is a lesson hard learnt but long remembered. Thank you for watching and your comment.
another enjoyable presentation , i love your work my friend , cheers big ears
Thanks Bill. I tried to hide my ears under my hat. (That didn't work.) The advantage of big ears is they hide my hearing aids. Good hunting Bill.

Excellent point. Wish I'd thought about it. Great Idea for a vid! Thank you for your comment, much appreciated.
Thanks for another great video and tips 👍🍻
Thanks Hillbilly. I'm on the hunt for content ideas and topics.
great vid, you have a great way of explaining things.
Thank you Ben.
Great watching. Enjoyed your informative videos as usual..thanks heaps Peter
Thank you for watching. Good to hear from a return viewer.
Hey Peter,
Would you even consider doing a video on how to work the wind/thermals?
Thanks,
Rob.
Your enjoyment in the sport is fantastic mate love it🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi Paul. Enjoyment is the key, that's why we do it. (Strange how we can sometimes enjoy being wet, cold, exhausted and miserable, yet still enjoy it.)
You are the man😊 no doubt about it.
Thanks, but settle down Glenn, it's likely to go to my head.

Thank you, Paul. Yes, hunters are prepared to stretch the distance but it's all relevant to being able to consistently hit the 9-inch gong.
Great vid . Hole in 1
Thank you Asanta. A golfer aspires for a hole in one, deer hunters aspire towards a deer per shot.
Very informative video like always thanks so much for posting and sharing your information also what calibre do you recommend for sambar

G'day Pete. I think you've shamed me into burning up some more 22 ammo. What size is your little gong ?
Hi Iain, from memory the small gong is 3 inch/75 mm. As for burning up some .22 ammo, it's great fun.
