Ravi, a poor man, is offered employment by his best friend, Prakash. However, when he learns that Prakash is engaged to his childhood love, Sandhya, he must decide where his loyalties lie.
Storyline :-
Ravi or "Bunnu" (Akashdeep) as he's called at home and Sandhya (Chandrakala) are childhood sweethearts despite Ravi being poor, and Sandhya being rich. Sandhya's father who is a senior official in the Railways is posted to a distant location, Ravi and Sandhya are separated and out of contact.
Many years later, Ravi (Dharmendra) has matured into a strapping young man. Not being rich or influential, Ravi finds it hard to find a job and decides to approach his friend Prakash (played by M.Rajan). Prakash is a happy-go-luck rich kid, whose family runs a large timber factory amid lush jungles, and is only too happy to hire Ravi at a generous salary (Rs.300 per month, although Ravi asks for only Rs.100).
Prakash's elder brother is Aakash played by the veteran character actor Abhi Bhattacharya. Aakash is a bachelor, his devious father having caused the suicide of his paramour, a poor village girl. Aakash is often drunk, pining for his lost love, but loves his younger brother dearly and generally spoils him.
Prakash is smitten with and soon to be engaged to, his father's friend's daughter Sandhya (Tarla Mehta), who arrives at their jungle home. Yes, this is the same Sandhya who had betrothed herself to Ravi in her childhood. Ravi does not recognize her at first, but the moment of truth comes when Prakash asks Ravi to sing a song. This was the same song that Ravi and Sandhya sang in childhood, and they both realize it, though neither reveals this secret.
Ravi is still in love with the girl he was separated from in childhood, but does not wish to come in the way of his friend Praskash's happiness. Sandhya also loves Ravi, and wants to marry him instead of Prakash. Till the climax of the movie, Prakash remains oblivious of the special relationship that Ravi and Sandhya have. Ravi's feelings for Sandhya are sensed by Aakash who has lost in love himself. Aakash is now faced with a choice: either ignore Ravi and Sandhya's true love and proceed with the union of Sandhya and Prakash, or break his brother's Prakash's heart and side with Ravi & Sandhya.
Oblivious of Ravi's feelings for Sandhya, Prakash keeps asking him to entice Sandhya towards him. Ravi smilingly soldiers on, trying to find his own happiness in his friend's. Until, Sandhya threatens to reveal all to Prakash, and break off their engagement. Faced with this catastrophe, Ravi decides to leave his job with Prakash, and return to his village, but Aakash steps in and persuades him not to leave. Aakash has finally decided to defend the childhood love, against the will of his father.
The seemingly complex love triangle, reaches a climax, with the childhood sweethearts being united, but at the cost of Aakash losing his life in the same manner as his beloved did.

When this song came into the market at the same I heard it and appreciated well the singers adding more beautiful tuning and composition by Khayyam. Since then whenever I witness this song any where I feel enjoyed emotionally.
Probably one of the sweetest song ever sung and composed. I do remember seeing this movie in Moti, Chandni Chowk, Delhi. Movie was not much of a success but this song in particular will remain etched in my memory for ever. I am 78 now.

You are right my friend. No one could reach the base that Rafi Sahab had reached and hence Lataji was always louder than him in so many songs. In recording of an old song Lataji haf to give retakes 11 times whereas Rafi saahab's voice and singing was perfectly balanced. At the end the director had to give in. Due to this there was a dispute between the two for almost three years. This issue was earlier to the Royalty issue.

I think it's 850 or so. Lata didi had once said that she sang maximum number of duets with Rafi sahab. Other female playback singers have also said the same thing. It simply means that Rafi sahab has sung the maximum number of duets. The genius composer of the 1940's and the 50's the late S.Mohinder sahab in an interview to vividh bharati radio channel had said that it was Rafi sahab who introduced character specific voice modulation in playback singing for the first time in the world.
Manna da who had mastery over classical music, had said in a TV interview that, Rafi sahab was always far ahead of all of them & was no .1 playback singer. In all the surveys conducted world over in the last 40 years, Rafi sahab has emerged as no.1 playback singer. Rafi sahab is the only playback singer to have sung in most of the Indian & foriegn languages including English.

I don’t know the exact day Mr. Rafi died. I heard, a few days after he passed away, that he was no more, and it just seemed unreal to me that indeed he was no more. I could not imagine that there would be no more ragas, ghazals, songs, quawalis in the great Mohammad Rafi’s voice. Your rich voice has been a solace for me since my childhood, Mr. Rafi. You are gone but your melodious voice with so many rich, precious messages in your songs, penned by numerous lyricists, will always stay with me. Because I do not believe you would have sung what you did not believe in. YOU Sir, believed that, “Nufrat jo sikhaye voh dharam tera nahin hai, Insaan ko jo raunde, voh kadam tera nahin hai”. In the movie these words are sung (in your voice) to a Child. All adults in this world will benefit from hearing these words. I thank Mother Nature that she “allowed” me to be born at a time when were a Singer on Earth, and I had the honor to listen to your rendition of All Things Musical! I can’t thank you enough

In 1980 i was liten about the death of rafi sahib on morning news ..and i was so shocked. I went out to tell this to any person who meet me first and when i said to my home near shop keeper hi asked who was rafi ...i was so surprised ....
