  • Simply my shop setup, and a very brief explanation of how I made my brake drum forge using a dump truck brake drum. I didn't film the construction of it because most of the time I didn't know what I was gonna do next. It works surprisingly well so I hope you get some ideas from my blood sweat and tears! It was super cheap to make.

    Thats an awesome little shop setup. Love that you scrounge for things. I do the same as well and I also barter like you. Honestly it feels like the best way to do things. Everyone gets something of more value in the end.

    I really like it! Hopefully I will be able to get started making a place for my grandson, son n law, and me to start building a forge shop at my home. They are finally moving home after 14 years. Getting stuff a little bit at a time. Like what you did! Hammer away! Semper Fi brother! 8 yrs for me. Vietnam years and Beyond 73 to 81.

    Man I been watching videos all morning to figure out a way to make a stand for my brake drum. I love how you did yours and being a plumber I have a grate just like yours that I saved out of a old commercial kitchen that was on a troth drain. Now I'm heading to the shop. Thanks brother!!!!

    Chris, You have done a really great job setting up your shop and have a really good vision for how to improvise "junk" into workable equipment. It's that kind of innovative vision and good mechanical ability that makes a great craftsman. Looks like you're well on your way! Best regards.

    GREAT smithy, Chris -- love it. You have a good eye for old-timey design, like the rough cedar posts, all the old-school barrels and so forth. I feel like I'm on that fourth grade field trip to the old iron works. Post more vids! You're a natural.

    The fact that you've got that much garden space gives you so many options! The setups really 'antique' - like you've tried to make something that looks like it's been there for ages - it does! Well done son

    I really really like your forge setup everything on it makes sense. I was wondering if you could send me a copy of the sketch up in decent quality so i can look at it. I accept all responsibility for the building and use of the forge and you will not be liable in any way. I just want to use a lot of your ideas but, have some of my own to possibly improve it. I am a diesel mechanic and I work for international so guess what i am using :p. I would really like the plans and any advice especially on cutting that drum cause i am thinking im going to have to get a diamond cutting disk. You can message me on g+ hope, to hear from you.

      be carful with those deep drums off 2 tons they are normally to deep and you have to make a lot coke burn to to do small pieces and go to deep to do big pieces

    • @christopher5361
      @christopher5361  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s actually painfully simple man I never made a blueprint but several rough sketches on scraps of paper that got stuffed in my sweaty pockets while I was working my other job haha.

    Here is idea for blower. Use a dryer motor and blower wheel assembly. Preppers, if motor bother you then take it off and I'm sure a hand crank can be rigged. There must be a few hundred free dryers on craigslist to get and disassemble to get these parts. Hook to forge with metal dryer vent tube.

      Pecan. I was surprised at how hard it was I can smack it with a hammer and it’s like a wooden anvil haha
