Hi! Thank you for watching my video!✨ If you have any question about manga or anime for me as a Japanese, you can always come and ask me on Twitter! twitter.com/_masta_manga I'm sure I can reply to you right away there. I'm not a native English speaker, but I will try my best to answer them!👍
What Levi says: “Your love for the Titans is still unrequited” What Levi means: “You should try looking somewhere else. By that I mean me. Look at me. Dumb ass”
"...your love went unrequited only with Titans..." - I think this is the first time (and probably the last time) Levi ever talked about love (想い), and more tellingly, it was him who initiated the dialogue. At that time they were on the brink of a war and Levi was in a heavy mood. He probably shouldn't talk about his personal feelings, yet he couldn't wait. It's heart-breaking. If it's not love I don't know what it is. Thanks for making this video!
We are so lucky to have you! Everything is so well explained and researched. Thank you so much, for providing us such good content. It's very difficult to understand this as an overseas fan. Original meaning gets lost during translation... yet I think it's very special and unique that japanese people can understand/perceive details more easily due to cultural context. Thank you!
I was smiling when I watched this video, because this gives me so much butterfly, haha I agree to japanese fans's comment on the kanji change, the first kataomoi is already fit for titan. No need for change (unless they/isayam want to imply something else) Thank you so much for your effort for this video, we appreciate you 💕🙏🙏
The explanation is very thorough and easy to understand. I'm 3 years late, but I just found out that there was a Japanese person who explained about these two people. Previously, in Attack on Titan, I wasn't a shipper. However, 3 years ago, when chapter 132 appeared and my brother asked me, `` Does Levi like Hange?'' I was surprised by the question and told me about the kanji he used. I was surprised because this was like revealing Levi's feelings for henge, just like Hange's request to live together in the forest, in Japan it was like an invitation to get married. I knew from that moment that Hange was the only one who loved Levi. But with chapter 132 and the special kanji used, my thinking changed, it turns out they love each other, but unfortunately many western fans don't know this, and most of them think that hange and levi are just friends, the forest scene and chapter 132 are just It's a joke for them, because there are so many words that are lost in the English translation.
The fact that Hange had to answer Levi that way although she knew the meaning of his words 💔 it hurts ... btw thank you so much for this video! you are awesome!! levihan supremacy🛐🛐🛐🛐
Thank you for detailed explanation. Things got lost during translation. After Hange dies, Levi asked Hange 見ててくれ. It can be translated as watch over them or watch over him. I think it implies Levi's desire to be with Hange. Well Hange and Levi have always been fighting for freedom and justice and watching over the world. They are selfless. Still Levi wants Hange to give him more attention and watch him only. hehe
Well, when I first read the English translation I thought no way in hell that ''unrequited love'' was the right word for a simple tease, I even made a joke about ''Huh are you perhaps projecting Levi? Why are you even saying it like that?''. Then I heard that Isayama made some changes and this one little verse was edited, I wondered what was so important for him to change a kanji here, after that, I read the Japanese one and... yeap... I was right, so many mistranslations that can change the whole meaning on English side, and they don't even give a thought to very obvious or important nuances, not just in here but in lots of other parts too. Even in other series, always choose the mother language for reading if you know Japanese my friends. Anyway, congrats to Levi though. Applause for this emotionally constipated man for his great attempt at confession, I love him so much. (Biggest applause goes to Masta btw, thank you ❤️)
I felt the same! I was like…”Did Levi really just say “unrequited love?” It sounded so odd for him to say it like that and to even talk about something that sounded kinda romantic. After understanding the Japanese meaning, it all made sense 😅
Isayama is well-known for adding a subtle changes in his work here and there, just like how he intended the usage of "purple flowers" in various scenes in the anime to represent Eren's love for Mikasa, and I believe the change of Levi's line in the Vol.33 book is definitely his way of hinting Levi's love for Hange. and I'm thankful for it!
That time i made a joke that Levi was implying he has feelings for Hange before i even knew about this.... 😂😂 I mean i don't even know japanese. I guess my ship senses were tingling.
In my opinion, I think the love between them has developed since Erwin's death and Hange and Levi are two remaining vets at the scout. We have 4 years timeskip in the storyline, that may be the time love arise between them. Then it comes to chapter 126 in the forest, Hange used "ifkk" phrase to express her desire to live with Levi. This phrase is often used in romantic context in Japan, as an anime lover, I can feel "something" between them and the way the author uses this phrase. Then the volume 33 version published, Isayama sensei changed it very intentionally and he really wanted to imply something in Levi’s dialogue because 片思い also expresses the same meaning, so there’s no need to revise it. Moreover, when Eren talked about Mikasa in 139, he also used 片想い, so I really think sensei used 片想い to imply the romantic feeling between the characters. Levi said "Ja-nai" means goodbye and see you later, not "sayonara = goodbye forever", this scene reminds me of Mikasa's scene when she said "itterashai" to Eren I don't know but I feel like in 132, Both Hange and Levi have just realized their love for each other and then the tragedy comes.TT_TT
Omg this is so well explained! Yea I felt that Hange and Levi's bond getting closer during the timeskip. I'm convinced "Call your name" is their official theme song 🥺 the first line of the lyrics is about losing a brother... No other characters having lost a brother beside Hange rightt??? The lyrics of the song is Levi confess to Hange 😭😭😭😭 Isayama planned it since the beginning 😢😢
Thank you so much!!!!! When I first saw the Japanese fans talking about とは, honestly I think maybe we are overthinking a little bit, but when the volume33 version came out, I felt Isayama sensei changed it very intentionally and he really wanted to imply something in Levi’s dialogue, because 片思い also express the same meaning, there’s no need to revise it tbh, but instead he used a more romantic word, as a Levihan fans, I just WOW. Also in 139, when Eren talked about Mikasa, he also used 片想い, so I really think sensei used 片想い to imply the romantic feeling between the characters. Once again, thank you for your video!!!!

He held Hange's head to make her face him, his actions proves that he wants Hange to focus on him---TO LOOK AT HIM and not on titans and anywhere else... It's like telling her that. "Stop getting obsessed and excited about those fvcking titans and notice me." And it make sense that he open the topic once again by saying that Hange's love for Titans are always unrequited (and as this video explained, Levi implied more that he really do have feelings for Hange because of the Kanji that is used) It always shown on Levi's eyes and actions. I actually don't get why we need to explain to others about the obvious, but I love listening to someone talking about Levihan 'cause it makes me so happyyyy I love Levihan so much 😭🤧❤

Thank you very much for making this video! 💕Really... to have a fan who speaks Japanese and can explain the moments of Levihan to us, we are so lucky! Now I am going to show this to people who don't believe that this dialogue can have another meaning 😌
I wouldn’t have interpreted that line in this way if I had never seen this video. I can only read the English version, so this is a surprise to me. I mean, I’m not surprised that they would have feelings for each other. I’m a LeviHan shipper, and I’m glad that there are details like this in the original language that I can learn about from native speakers.
In fact, after Hangi told him, "Let's just live here for the two of us," and I didn't see a response from Levi except that he brought her back to her senses and that they couldn't leave everything like this and run away, I was a little sad, but after this dialogue happened I was a little surprised why Levi said this suddenly?! And I said, is he trying to prove himself, and in the last scene and seeing the amount of sadness in his eyes and his last word to her “Pain your heart” I thought at first it was encouragement from him to her but I don't think he would have said it to anyone like that and I felt like he had already confessed his love for her in That moment and that's why she was shocked and said, "It's the first time I've heard you say it Levi."😔💔
Masta, thank you so much for this video and your work ! As an overseas fan, we literally can't understand these little details and I'm so happy to watch your video to understand the original script. As usual it was perfectly explained, and really I insist THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HARDWORK ❤😭
Thank you so much for your sincere and kind video! It's understandable and meaningful! This kind of video is really precious! Once again, thank you for kindly making the video!🥰

Thank you so much Mastaa!!! You did an excellent job explaining this, I understood everything at last thanks to you!! I hope western people could understand this too, but English is very limited the same as spanish and it's impossible. If only this could be understood by everyone, people would be saying LeviHan is canon. I also would like Isayama could make it clear some day, but I guess he doesn't want. Anyways, Thank you so much Masta!!! You make incredible inputs to our fandom!!! 💖💖
Aaaaah! You made it! 😍 Thank you so much for your explanation, I really liked it. I agree with the fans say isym sensei would not revise the line if he didn't want to convey the message that Levi had deeper feelings for Hange and it was only a joke between friends. Also i enjoyed that you also explained cultural gaps and how the discussion went in chronological order. Thanks very much for your insights and your work! I'll be waiting for more LeviHan videos!
Thank you very much for the video!!! I like that you put us in context and touch on the issue of cultural differences. I didn't really ship them either from the beginning, chapter 126 made me start to see them as something more than a friendship and 132 made me ship them a little more, there is also the fact that in 139 he seems to remember her when looking at that plane. Anyway, levihan is never enough! Thank you very much for taking the time to talk about them

I’m an EruRi shipper, but LeviHan is definitely cute. Romantic or not, they are definitely a good match for each other ☺️ After Erwin’s death, I think Erwin would want Levi to be with Hange anyways!
Er_ris commenting and pretending to be "objective" readers and "non-shippers" while trying EVERYTHING humanly possible to debunk canon facts made by the creator, Isayama, himself lmfao why y'all gotta be so petty? 😂 LEVIHAN is CANON. Accept your defeat and move on 😂
Their desperation for always trying to debunk every piece of 126 scene, saying she was just tired or that she didn't blush, confirms they feel truly threatened by LeviHan. Anyways, LeviHan canon 💜💚
@@vanlee5540 it's because they have zero canon evidence, while we have EVERYTHING. Love confessions from both, Hange AND Levi. It cannot get more canon than that, my friend. LEVIHAN CANON ❤️
yeah when I share Masta's opinion about this, one of them insulting me and says "It's pikuhan moment and levi just teasing hange" I mean why they don't noticed the "third party" 😭
They secretly reaaally want what Levi and Hange has for Erwin and Levi and are bitter. If those moments were with Eruri instead of Levihan they would never shut up about how romantic, beautiful and gay for each other Eruri are. 🙃
I re-watch this like a playlist haha. But, wow, Japanese culture is a high context culture. You can't grasp the meaning/intention just by straightforwardly translate it. Despite the complexity of japanese language itself, there is always cultural context slipped within words or sentences. Also, I've read some articles regarding japanese culture, it mostly described how japanese tend to be indirect when expressing something. It said that japanese people expect the other speaker to be able to 'reading the air'. That's why, for interpreting the context of this kind of stuff, japanese audience always do better. I remember before this video was made, I've read the analysis about the 'to-ha' particle. I don't know the author is japanese or not, but they said that 'to-ha' create such an invisible option in the statement, but from Masta's explanation it's slightly different, 'to-ha' particle is give more like 'limited into' meaning rather than 'another possible option' meaning. Maybe I made some wrong interpretation, but above all I still amused by how japanese language works. As for the kataomoi, I think it's more a cultural take. Although if you find a different meaning of it, from dictionary for instance, for how it is used in real life is always known better by who use it in real life. Textbook or dictionary can't do better.
I loved your video ❣️❣️❣️it was very interesting, thank you very much for your explanation. I'm Levihan shipper💚💜 and I'm really happy. Greetings from México 🇲🇽
Thank you so much for this video! Your explication was so clear and deep about the real meaning of the words used on the manga in the original idiom. I really like the levihan but taking out the fanatism for a sheep, your explication was so objective. Excellent video, continue with this good work!!! 💪🤗 PD: thank you for including English subtitles, I don't speak English so well, so have the explication written, helps me a lot!👍💗☺️✨🦄
As an ace person I will always defend head canon ace Levi ✊️ But if I wanted him to be with anyone it would be Hange. I feel like their relationships is already pretty special, even without it being (explicitly) romantic. They're the only people from the older scouting generation who make it (almost) until the end, they share so many memories and (mostly painful) experiences. There is affection that comes from deeply understanding and valuing the other person. There is love. Whether that love is romantic is actually irrelevant to me. You can deeply care for a person and even want to spend your life with them without having romantic feelings for them. Levi and Hange share a deep connection. As far as I'm concerned, that's all I need to know.
That's pretty much my stance of them too! (as someone also somewhere under the aro/ace umbrella) I don't care too much about what their bond could be classified as, it's just really comforting and special with how much they trust, care about, and understand each other. They have all my heart.
I hope they change it in the anime, keep Hange alive, and they get to live together as a happy couple 🤗They deserve that! They've both seen so much trauma
Hello masta! I really love your videos and the way you explain things! I was wondering if you could make a video about one piece? I think their are a lot of misunderstandings in this particular one
This was really interesting. Explaining the difference between Japanese and English was really cool. And it's nice to understand Japanese from a Japanese person's perspective. Since I've always found it interesting at what words they utilize for the English versions and some English speakers are like they did it wrong. This makes me wonder if those people just don't understand English lol. But what was used for English makes complete sense. Since At least I did took an underlying meaning from it, as well as the response from Hange. It goes nicely together, without actually being obvious.

When I asked my friend who has lived in Japan for 7 years, she said that the revised word is a literary expression, so it comes out often in the lyrics of the song. Once again, thank you for kindly making the video!🥰
Omg thank you so much for this video and everything else 🤧 evermore I search about levihan, more I do believe they're canon and it's so so good to see the Japanese natives agreeing with this and your video lighted up my beliefs on levihan canon. Thank you again! 💚💜
Levihan canon😘🤙🖐️
Lol, I can see some jealous eruri shippers here. Funny how they always want to know abt levihan🤷🏻♀️ just go shipping your ship and leave us here alone🤦🏻♀️
Well you leave us alone with your gay stuff that you post
У них даже аргументов особо нет
FR. Levihan is so underatted and Eruri is always interfering (no hate on Eruri shippers
@@MirandaAckerman26
I feel like after Erwin's death, Levi and Hange's bond and friendship became stronger. 😅 I ship LeviHan because somehow the idea of the two remaining veterans who fight side by side slowly becoming a couple is 😘
Thank you for your hard work! This is exactly what western fandom needs to know about japanese language features. Thank you for everything you're doing!
Such a detailed, authentic explanation! Thank you for your effort, we love you💖
Hange loves Titans and Levi.
Titans doesn't love Hange.
Levi loves Hange.
Levihan Canon ❤
Thank you so much for making this video, everything is clear now 💕
This is so cool. It's really exciting to learn what things get lost in translation
Thank you again for making a video about Levihan ❤️❤️❤️and Can you add a translation into Arabic please 😊
I really liked your explanation, it's super clear. Thank you again for your hard work and for making another video about Levihan ❤️
I loved all the details you mentioned🥹
Thank you very much for the video!!! I like that you put us in context and touch on the issue of cultural differences. I didn't really ship them either from the beginning, chapter 126 made me start to see them as something more than a friendship and 132 made me ship them a little more, there is also the fact that in 139 he seems to remember her when looking at that plane. Anyway, levihan is never enough! Thank you very much for taking the time to talk about them
Thank you Masta ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Y love your videos❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I've been waiting for this! Looking forward to your next video. Great analysis btw! 😊
I love Levihan! It's so underatted!!
Thank you for explaining ! Best explanation I’ve seen
So Levi was basically like confessing ?
Because of this, I can't see Levihan the same way I saw them
Eren X Mikasa
Levi X Hanji
😁 Favorite Ships all time
Thank you so much for this great video Masta! You are making me more and more in love with this ship!! Looking forward for your next videos! Have a great day 🤗
Thank you so much for this breakdown, Masta!
All the english translation had to do was bold/italicize the word "titans" and the meaning wouldn't have been lost 😔
Thank you so much for your hard work 💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you for explaining!
tysm for this😭
Thank you so much! where I read the manga the lines were completely different then they are here 🤭
THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤❤❤
This is amazing! Thank you for this video
levihan canon ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😻
THANK YOU FOR THIS INFORMATION!🥰💓
I’m an EruRi shipper, but LeviHan is definitely cute. Romantic or not, they are definitely a good match for each other ☺️ After Erwin’s death, I think Erwin would want Levi to be with Hange anyways!
Eu acho que ia ser o maior apoiador deles
bro definitely tried playing matchmaker when he was in heaven or whatever lol
Er_ris commenting and pretending to be "objective" readers and "non-shippers" while trying EVERYTHING humanly possible to debunk canon facts made by the creator, Isayama, himself lmfao why y'all gotta be so petty? 😂
LEVIHAN is CANON.
LEVIHAN CANON ❤️
yeah when I share Masta's opinion about this, one of them insulting me and says "It's pikuhan moment and levi just teasing hange"
I mean why they don't noticed the "third party" 😭
They secretly reaaally want what Levi and Hange has for Erwin and Levi and are bitter. If those moments were with Eruri instead of Levihan they would never shut up about how romantic, beautiful and gay for each other Eruri are. 🙃
i just know those dislikes are from eruri shippers lol always in levihan’s business
LEVIHAN CANON

Hi! I rewatched your videos, and seriously, we're so lucky to have you. Thanks for your work, take care ❤️
Thank you for this kanji I now learn something new today. I've been a levihan shipper since the beginning of the anime after I saw their interactions.
I loved your video ❣️❣️❣️it was very interesting, thank you very much for your explanation. I'm Levihan shipper💚💜 and I'm really happy. Greetings from México 🇲🇽
I love this and every part of it
I love your videos. Thanks Masta, you are fantastic
Okay that was smooth. Didn't expect it from so-called anti romanic heichou
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO 👏🏻❤️ LEVIHAN is officially CANON 🎉❤️😍
Forever levi han ❤❤
I love your content 💕 thank you for taking the time to explain these details. New subscriber, I look forward to your next videos💚💜
Thank you so much for this video! Your explication was so clear and deep about the real meaning of the words used on the manga in the original idiom. I really like the levihan but taking out the fanatism for a sheep, your explication was so objective. Excellent video, continue with this good work!!! 💪🤗
PD: thank you for including English subtitles, I don't speak English so well, so have the explication written, helps me a lot!👍💗☺️✨🦄
Thank you for explaining about these words their meaning and use, the translations really lose the intention of the author. thank you very much 🙂
I am going to suscribe because I dont want to miss when you talk about the rings merch😊
I became levihan bcs of this video
They have all my heart.
thank you so much for such a detailed analysis, Masta-sensei! :D thank you for all the work you put, it is so appreciated
Fun fact: Everyone who clicked on this vid is a shipper for Levihan
I'm not a shipper but this was such an interesting video and you explained it so well
Levihan canon
I hope they change it in the anime, keep Hange alive, and they get to live together as a happy couple 🤗They deserve that! They've both seen so much trauma
Hello masta! I really love your videos and the way you explain things! I was wondering if you could make a video about one piece? I think their are a lot of misunderstandings in this particular one
thank you for explain
is it just me or does this make everyone else also hate floch even more
Same. I hated him before, but after Hange’s death I hate him even more.
Same bro
This was really interesting. Explaining the difference between Japanese and English was really cool. And it's nice to understand Japanese from a Japanese person's perspective. Since I've always found it interesting at what words they utilize for the English versions and some English speakers are like they did it wrong. This makes me wonder if those people just don't understand English lol. But what was used for English makes complete sense. Since At least I did took an underlying meaning from it, as well as the response from Hange. It goes nicely together, without actually being obvious.
Can you please tell me if Levi love hange or it not true buc many people said that hange and Levi are friends ?
