  • The Ninth Doctor Adventures - 'Old Friends' gave us another special treat with Eccleston's Doctor meeting the Brigadier, played by Jon Culshaw. I've edited their last scene together from the final story, 'The Forth Generation', using Murray Gold's piece 'Brigadier Lethbridge - Stewart', first heard in the series 6 finale, 'The Wedding of River Song'.
This is just for fun, no copyright infringement is intended!
'The Ninth Doctor Adventures - Old Friends' was released in Feburary 2022 and can be found on the official Big Finish Productions website: www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/...
'Brigadier Lethbridge - Stewart' is owned by Murray Gold and the BBC, the track was released in December 2011 on the Doctor Who Series 6 Soundtrack.

He was in The Sarah Jane Adventures series 2 finale 'Enemy of the Bane', but yes would have been amazing to have him turn up in the main show. He was written into the series 4 Sontaran two parter and finale but Nick Courtney couldn't film it due to health issues I believe.

@@doctorwhorescored3151 I'd argue that would go against TV canon, which is tantamount to law. The fact that Ten never meets the Brigadier makes the scene where Eleven finds out that he's passed all the more poignant.
This scene with Nine ONLY works because Nine met the Brig long before meeting Rose. From then on, there's a long, long gap.

    • @doctorwhorescored3151

@mikebliss3153 It would certainly make 11's reaction all the more emotional, though bare in mind that the Doctors live a lot longer than what we see on TV, so a meeting between 10 and the Brig could still work as there could still be a massive gap in their life up to that point.

@@doctorwhorescored3151 Even the Eleventh Doctor could see The Brig again, they'd just have to make sure they set it before the end of series 6. Which is easy, considering just how much time The Doctor spent between Christmas Carol and the start of 6 when he shows up in the diner, clueless about why he's there. Also spent a lot of time putting off his own death before he called The Brig and found out he'd passed away. I sometimes think Moffat was purposely putting massive gaps in 11's story (hundreds of years at times) just so Big Finish would one day have more space to work with than usual. I hope Matt Smith agrees to do some one day. Dudman is great as 11, but i'd be more excited if it was really Matt Smith.

I suppose it’s because this was among that first series of audios Eccleston recorded, so he was still getting used to working in the audio format. And this was also recorded remotely as a result of Covid, so Eccleston and Culshaw were not in the same room as each other.
But in any case, this still sounds fine to me. The Brigadier and the Doctor have never really been ones to open up and talk about their feelings, the 9th Doctor even less so, so them being a bit awkward is in keeping with that.
In fact, the story even highlights this, as the whole reason the Doctor is visiting the Brigadier here is because he had just attended a funeral and realised that time was short, so he didn’t want to leave anything unsaid between them.
